Here’s a good one:
I brush brown strand after brown
strand over your freckles, behind your ears
and I still can’t see your face.
The punchline is you’re looking the other way.

Not a poem.
Take off your shoes when you’re at the top of Parking Lot 4.
Take off your socks when you’re at the top of Parking Lot 4.
The concrete is still damp from the light rain that morning.
He can feel a creek.
He’s sitting on a boulder he can feel a creek on his feet the water trickles over the hairs at the top of the knuckles on his toes.
He crinkles them and crosses them in satisfaction.
When he opens his eyes he wonders why his socks are blacker than the night sky at the top of Parking Lot 4. There’s not enough puddles at the top of Parking Lot 4.
His socks reek, but his feet are free now, cool and dry, he wants it to be later at night.
He wants the cars to be farther away when he’s at the top of Parking Lot 4. Maybe he wants to be surrounded by the Pacific Ocean when he’s at the top of Parking Lot 4.
And when will the rain start, his eyes aren’t cloudy enough.

The dirt under my fingernails
The dirt under my fingernails has stories to tell.
I dug surely with an ambition I would know well
quick deep as the tide receded
into the sand, I clawed probed
roughly grazing the frantic backside of a sand crab
with my fingernails, I reached stretched my hopes
laid thin narrow my arm
desperation in my nerves with each second
my hand searches below, its heels kicking grains
at the mattress pad of my young middle finger
oblivious,
so devastation was quick deep
when the crab outran me, wily coyote,
disappointment, mud dragging me
the damp sucking constrictor on my wrist, jaws of Hades closing on my helpless appendage-
Then I looked up,
and realized I was in the sandbox.

“Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.”

Quote
I love rawness so much. Falsely started sentences, mispelled words, things that you cannot say, that you have no words for. The way a person’s voice cracks up when he sings. The way you see wrinkles beneath the eyes of someone older each time she smiles. It makes me believe that everything doesn’t have to be perfect, but it’s fine. It is what makes us all human. Unfiltered. Honest. It makes me believe in life again, reminding me that there are still a lot of beautiful things left in this world.

"When someone is trying to be natural, or, better, when he does not even know he is being photographed, then he reveals character. But if he approaches the camera with a certain solemnity, with the intention of showing himself off, then he is revealing more than himself: he is revealing a secret self image. There is no movement, no laughter, only deadly seriousness and the desire to be taken seriously by others." - Golo Mann ----------------------- ::@laurenkimphotography (at Los Angeles, California)

I love how he's just like "oh yeah we had a great time" like how awed they were that people were just writing their names in the sand for them

“We had a great time there..we stayed in the hotel most of the time and sort of looked down on the sand where the kids, the fans would write ‘I love John’, on the sand you know..so you could read it from your hotel room.” - Paul McCartney talking about The Beatles visiting Miami.

THE SAME FIVE QUESTIONS
with
Self Made Tattoo Artist Luke Wessman
Q: Where are you right now?
I’d rather not say, but if you get an appointment you’ll find out.
Q: Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Oceanside, CA. I attribute a lot of my personal style to growing up there. It’s a small area that has military, gang members, bikers, working class, surfers, and skaters. It was a diverse place to grow up. All these cultures wrapped up in this little town. To be a product of that town gave me a great sense of diversity and style. Q: What do you do for a living – what are your hobbies – how closely do these two overlap?
I give people the opportunity to express themselves in an extremely profound way—by permanently marking their skin. My hobbies are art, surfing, and low riders. I think everything comes back to art and style. There’s art in everything you do if you make it that way. Q: When did your relationship with PF Flyers begin?
My relationship with PF Flyers began when I was young. I think like a lot of people I was introduced to the brand through the Sandlot. Over the past few years, I’ve been reintroduced to the brand through my friend Alyasha who’s a guy I look to for style and classic American fashion. The more I dug I realized how historic the brand is—the fact that’s it’s been around since the 30’s blew my mind.  It’s a timeless classic style I thought belonged to someone else but really didn’t. Q: What is your life motto?
My life motto is a question to myself. Am I the kind of person I would want to meet?
