The seven R's as defined by Niara Sudarkasa (from her book The Strength of Our Mothers: African & African American Women & Families: Essays and Speeches) Reciprocity- mutual exchange Respect- appreciation for self and others Reason- to make meaning of situations behaviors etc Reconciliation- to restore harmony Reverence- a deep respect for a higher power Responsibility- to take on a task or burden Restraint- to control one's urges and desires In the text, Sudarkasa discusses her research of families of African ancestry in West Africa and in the United States. Families in West Africa governed themselves by the seven R's and families in the US governed themselves by only five of seven R's. According to her research, some families of African ancestry in the US struggle with restraint and reconciliation. Knowing this could be helpful and support efforts to healing and growth. #healing #africanastudies #blacklove

Deputy Ben Fields was caught on camera at Spring Valley High School in Columbia ordering a student out of her seat. The imposing officer, who is a powerlifter in his free time, stands over her desk and tells the student, "either you're coming with me or I'll make you." Without giving her time to get up, he grabs her and flips her over, slamming her, and her desk, onto the ground. #injustice #standupforjustice #fightback #fightforjustice #policebrutality #crime #criminalactivity #blacklivesmatter

I’ve noticed that a lot of these images have been posted on social media, which is somewhat disturbing because it is not the responsibility of people of African ancestry to explain or be concerned with the thoughts and/ or feelings of white Americans as it pertains to self love, a political ideology or movement. People of African ancestry have accommodated and overly concerned themselves with the thoughts and feelings of white Americans for too long. With that said, such post maintains the status quo. White Americans that desire to align themselves with people of African ancestry can’t be intimidated by Pro Black behaviors, sentiments or political message; in fact they MUST embrace it. #africancentered #truthmatters #blackpride #blackstudies #africanalways #blacklegacy #problack

It would be redundant and an understatement for me to say I am fed up, angry or disturbed by excessive force and police brutality so I won't, but I will express my disgust with all these cowards standing, watching, taping and/or commentating as men, women and children are harassed, victimized, brutalized and killed by hateful fearful racist cops that misuse their power and attack humanity... Where are my folks that are going to standup for humanity ?????
