I understand the argument that while transformative and derivative works have always existed, "fanfiction" as a medium is inherently connected to the concept of IP law and thus is a specifically contemporary art/craft movement, I get it I really do, but also twenty years after the canterbury tales were finished an english monk wrote his own additional chapter and added himself as a character, and I'm sorry but that man should have been on wattpad

The best They Might Be Giants joke ever is in Terry Pratchett's "Soul Music," which features a band called We're Certainly Dwarfs.

3 components of worldbuilding:
1. The author’s kinks
2. The author’s power fantasy
3. The author’s political agenda
Plot and logic optional

sometimes writing feels like dragging your brain across gravel. but at least the gravel is sparkly. and covered in metaphors.

Happy 2 years since I started writing Hook, Line, and Sinker and it’s so insane to see the growth from then. Thank you to every one of you who read my fics, commented, kudosed, liked my posts, anything. Falseren has grown immensely since then, both canon and fanon. I love seeing all the food and fanart and fics, it makes me so happy :D 🫶🙏🙌

I finally figured out what they are doing to the building across the street from my apartment that has been under construction for literally an entire year.
And for reasons I can’t even begin to explain I am taking it as a very loud sign from the universe to write a novel
All my fanfictions are officially on hiatus until further notice

“I adore the way fan fiction writers engage with and critique source texts, by manipulating them and breaking their rules. Some of it is straight-up homage, but a lot of [fan fiction] is really aggressive towards the source text. One tends to think of it as written by total fanboys and fangirls as a kind of worshipful act, but a lot of times you’ll read these stories and it’ll be like ‘What if Star Trek had an openly gay character on the bridge?’ And of course the point is that they don’t, and they wouldn’t, because they don’t have the balls, or they are beholden to their advertisers, or whatever. There’s a powerful critique, almost punk-like anger, being expressed there—which I find fascinating and interesting and cool.”
― Lev Grossman.
