no i totally agree with you and i love that this is such an integral part of rick’s character. he’s such a contradiction of himself and i think that truly frustrates him. he’s loyal to an absolute T, even if it kills him. to diane and to birdperson, both people he let in and both people who have “paid the price” so to say- of loving him. the world has shown him nothing but the negative consequences of opening himself up to acceptance. he’s nothing if not loyal and he punishes himself for that all the time, even though thats part of what is irrevocably true about him
