Sanji and the power of love

On several occasions including the latest chapter (1107) we’ve seen sanji talking about the power of love. And i think it’s important how sanji actually defines ‘love’.

I can think of at least three major instances where sanji received love and it’s interesting how all three are of the same kind. Sanji’s mother, zeff and Luffy. And all three have the element of ‘sacrifice’ in them. Sanji’s mother drank poison and sacrificed her life to save sanji from turning into an emotionless robot. Zeff sacrificed his own leg to make sure sanji survived. And then luffy starved himself to convince sanji to come back. (I could also add Zoro in Thriller Bark. Yes, they both ultimately were sacrificing their lives for luffy, but sanji first volunteered to also save zoro’s life and zoro then knocked sanji out to save sanji’s life.)

It’s no wonder that sanji’s perception of love is warped like that. How he came to define love as a sacrifice. When we see him throw his life away for the crew, it’s not so much that he thinks his life is worthless, but that he thinks this is the only way to show his love. If you really love someone, you have to be willing to sacrifice yourself, this is what Sanji believes. And in this way, sanji’s notion of love becomes a vessel of power. Because sacrifice is a way to communicate with gods, with the ultimate manifestation of power. By sacrificing something significant to the gods you bargain to receive the power to protect something even more precious to you.

In conclusion, Sanji’s love is indeed a power. Because his love is a sacrifice.

I really wanna draw a happy birthdayboy Sanji all smiley and wobbly 💗💗💗 but cant sketch anything new rn and cleaning the comic is much easier, no thoughts, head empty

Anyway, ramble time

I don't have much experience with making comics, the żabka AU one being the one I roughed out first, but it was much less complicated. I dont recall making a serious comic effort before that... I now have a newfound admiration for drawing fight scenes, found it extremely hard lmao Generally I keep second guessing myself, always thinking I should have added more panels to make what's happening more clear, not sure if the flow of it is right. Even though I already moved onto cleaning I still keep making changes to the sketched out panels that were supposed to be final lol I also second guess the plot I'd planned, maybe I didn't think this characterization through enough? What if people dislike it?

But! If I keep tweaking and overthinking it I'll end up never posting it and I don't want that. And if I focus on other people's judgement I won't find joy in making art and I don't want that either.

So here's to sharing art! Regardless of mistakes and doubts 💗
