Nicki stood at the top of the stairs she found no joy in conversing with anyone right now, she had to much on her mind and not enough answers.

Nicki couldn't ignore the presence that stood behind her "don't you get sick of spying?"

"Not when it's my job" her father smirked. Nicki always found his 'I can be a dad when I wanna be' demeanor off putting.

"I've surrounded you with tons of peers and you always manage to be alone" Nicki found that laughable everything he said was.

"What are you gonna do?" She asked turning around to him.

"What?" He wasn't confused, he knew exactly what she was talking about.

"When they figure out your lying to them" she sassed "when they find out the only reason their here is to retrieve something you shouldn't have had in the first place, let alone what your about to use it for."

Nick scratched the back of his head "When are you gonna stop being angry with me I know what I did in the past but I- I just want my daughter back." He frowned grabbing her shoulders.

Nicki wiped her eye before the tear that had been prickling at her pupil could fall down her cheek. Nicki couldn't lie she'd missed when her dad was actually her dad, when he treated like his little princess.

"When I first came to earth, Loki's rage followed me here and your people paid the price. And now again In my youth I courted war." They both could hear Thor speaking at the bottom of the stairs.

Nicki walked down stopping halfway, "war hasn't started yet."

"You think you can make Loki tell us what the Tesseract is?" Nick asked standing in front of Nicki. It was by far his oldest trick in the book 'hide the Nicki from the guy'.

"I do not know. Loki's mind is far afield, it's not just power he craves, it's vengeance upon me. There's no pain that would prize his need from him."

"A lot of guys think that, until the pain stops." Fury said stepping closer to the god.

"What are you asking me to do?"

"I'm asking. What are you prepared to do?" Nick was now eye to eye with Thor or as much as he could be.

"Loki is a prisoner."

Nicki walked down the stairs strutting past the three men. "Then why does it feel like he's the only person on this boat that wants to be here?" With that Nicki walked away agent Coulson following after leaving Thor to ponder her words.

"phase 2 is SHIELD uses the cube to make weapons." Nicki heard a thud which she could only assume was the prototype. "Sorry the computer was moving a little slow."

She knew his deception wouldn't work forever, it was about time they knew what they were fighting for. Nicki stepped into the room leaning against a nearby counter.

"You were okay with this" Tony asked accusingly.

"I didn't even want to keep that stupid cube in holding but who am I to fight with Nick Fury" she mocked.

Nick stay calmed as he tried to explain "Rogers, we gathered everything related to the Tesseract. This does not mean that we're-"

"I'm sorry, Nick." Tony moved the computer screen towards Fury which showed plans of the phase 2 weapons, "what were you lying?"

"I was wrong, the world hasn't changed a bit." Steve shook his head in utter disappointment.

At that moment, Thor and Natasha walked into the lab. Natasha kept her eyes right on Banner. Banner looked at her pissed.

"Did you know about this?" Bruce queried looking to the red headed woman.

"You wanna think about removing yourself from this environment, doctor?" Natasha asked concerned.

Bruce scoffed at her audacity "I was in Calcutta, I was pretty well removed."

"Loki's manipulating you."

"And you've been doing what exactly?" He stated.

Now it was Natasha's turn to scoff "You didn't come here because I bat my eyelashes at you."

"Yes, and I'm not leaving because suddenly you get a little twitchy." Bruce turned looking at the director "I'd like to know why SHIELD is using the Tesseract to build weapons of mass destruction."

"Because of him." Nick pointed at Thor

"Me?" The god gawked.

"Last year earth had a visitor from another planet who had a grudge match that leveled a small town. We learned that not only are we not alone, but we are hopelessly, hilariously, outgunned." Nick said his tone carried slight embarrassment.

"My people want nothing but peace with your planet." Thor informed them.

"But you're not the only people out there, are you? And, you're not the only threat." Nick sighed "The world's filling up with people who can't be matched, they can't be controlled."

"Like you controlled the cube?" Steve leered.

"You're work with the Tesseract is what drew Loki to it, and his allies. It is the signal to all the realms that the earth is ready for a higher form of war." In Nicki's eyes Thor drew a pretty compelling case.

"A higher form?" Steve asked.

"When we go messing with things outside our world we can't just expect to say oopsie and giggle like all is for given. We had no business messing with that thing in the first place, there's a lot of other people who want and need the tesseract just as bad as we do." Nicki didn't like a lot of things and her father playing innocent was one of them.

"He forced our hand. We had to come up with something. "He glowered at Thor.

"Nuclear deterrent. 'Cause that always calms everything right down." Tony said sarcastically.

"Remind me again how you made your fortune, Stark?" Nick ridiculed.

"I'm sure if he still made weapons he would be neck deep-" Steve was abruptly cut off.

Tony frowned "Wait! Wait! Hold on! How is now about me.

"I'm sorry, isn't everything?" Derided Steve.

"I thought humans were more evolved than this." Thor seemed clearly upset by the evolution of the human race. Served him right for putting his trust in them.

"Excuse me, did we come to your planet and blow stuff up?" Nick asked with one eyebrow arched.

"Did you always give your champions such mistrust?"

This made Nicki laugh "it'd be a shock if he did trust us."

They began to argue with one another, each argument for different reasons, each person on a different side. They had been so caught up in their arguments they didn't even realize the gem in Loki's scepter began to glow brightly.

"Put on the suit, let's go a few rounds." Steve pushed as he was now ready for a fight.

Thor's laugh was loud as it boomed through the lab of the Helicarrier "You people are so petty... and tiny."

Tony rubbed his head moving away from Cap.

"Bruce tutted Yeah, this is a tee..."

"Agent Romanoff, would you escort Dr.Banner back to his-"

Bruce fumed "Where? You rented my room."

"The cell was just in case..."

"In case you needed to kill me, but you can't! I know! I tried! I got low. I didn't see an end, so I put a bullet in my mouth and the other guy spit it out! So I moved on, I focused on helping other people. I was good, until you dragged me back into this freak show and put everyone here at risk!" Bruce grew more upset as he looked at Natasha, who was now suddenly unnerved. "You wanna know my secret, Agent. Romanoff?"

"You wanna know how I stay calm?" He asked her. Natasha and Fury quickly place their hands down to grab their guns.

"Doctor Banner... put down the scepter." Nicki spoke calmly trying to get him to oblige. Bruce looked down a shocked expression washing over his face as he realized he was holding Loki's scepter, the computer beeped and they all turn to it.

"Got it." Tony said walking over to the computer Banner placed the scepter down walking over to the computer.

"Sorry, kids. You don't get to see my little party trick after all." He said sarcasim dripping off every word.

"Located the Tesseract?" Thor queried.

Tony looked up to the group "I can get there faster."

Steve began to speak "Look, all of us..."

"The Tesseract belongs on Asgard, no human is a match for it." Thor told the men as they ignored him, still fighting over who would retrieve the tesseract. Tony turned to leave, but Steve stopped him.

"You're not going alone!" Steve asserted.

Tony scoffed "You gonna stop me?"

"Put on the suit, let's find out."

"I'm not afraid to hit an old man." Tony provoked.

"Put on the suit." At that moment Banner who was looking at the monitor noticed something about the Tesseract.

"Oh, my God!"

Just then an explosion hit the ship sending them flying in different directions, Nicki groaned as she lifted herself from the ground but this ground felt really weird it was hard but in a different sense.

Looking down Nicki saw Thor underneath her she quickly untangled her legs from his allowing him to stand up, "are you all right woman of Fury?"

Nicki tried her best not to laugh she'd never been called 'woman of Fury' hopefully he understood that was her last name.

"I'm fine" she said as she stood. Nicki pulled her hair up grabbing the rubber band and tying her hair up into a ponytail.

She felt a cool hand graze over her neck almost in an instant she grabbed the hand flipping it over her shoulder, when she looked down she saw Thor on the floor once again.

"I am so sorry" she hummed helping him up. Thor let out a thundering laugh similar to the one from before. everything about him was big and mighty it made her feel small but in a good way.

"Tiny, strong, fierce" he listed "you have the might of a Valkyrie."

Nicki had no clue what a Valkyrie was but she knew it was an instinct she had when people touched her especially without her knowledge and especially in that spot.

That was the spot where hydra branded her a long time ago when they'd taken her "I'm not dirty" she told Thor .

"It's an old brand back when I was kidnapped by hydra" she didn't know she was spewing out all this information about herself she was usually highly secretive but he made her nervous and when she was nervous all she did was chatter.

A loud bang was heard down the hall not long after a monstrous growl, she was grateful for it until she'd realized looking up a Thor she took notice of his expression indicating he knew who it was too.

Loki was now free from his cuffs and now contained in a large glass cell held by hydraulic rigs. Nicki watched as Fury walked up to the control panel of the cell.

"In case it's unclear, You try to escape, You so much as scratch that glass." Fury pressed a button which opened up a hatch underneath Loki's cell. Loki peered as much as he could from the glass. Without seeing, the sounds of gusting wind would make a man shit his pants.

Not a god, though.

Thirty thousand feet, straight down in a steel trap. "You get how that works?" Fury taunted.

Closing the hatch and pointing at Loki he spoke. "Ant." Then points to the button which would drop Loki into the steel trap. "Boot."

"It's an impressive cage" he smirked. "Not built, I think, for me."

"Built for something a lot stronger than you." Fury corrected.

"Oh, I've heard." Loki eyes pierce through the camera as Nicki tried to stop the shutter that crept down her back, this guy was really creepy.

Banner looked at the monitor, intently. Nicki felt for Bruce she didn't do that with many people, it was sad really to watch people prepare for the worst putting no trust in you.

"The mindless beast, makes play he's still a man. How desperate are you?" Loki scoffed. "That you call upon such lost creatures to defend you?"

"How desperate am I? You threaten my world with war, You steal a force you can't hope to control." He paused regaining himself, "You talk about peace and you kill `cause it's fun. You have made me very desperate. You might not be glad that you did." Fury argued.

"Ooh. It burns you to come so close. To have the Tesseract, to have power, unlimited power." Chortled Loki. "And for what? A warm light for all mankind to share, and then to be reminded what real power is."

"Well, you let me know if 'Real Power' wants a magazine or something." Fury walking off leaving Loki in his glass cell. Loki's eyes trail back to the camera, smirking.

Steve watched until the monitor went black. Thor, who didn't even look, just listened, stood there torn apart. They all just stood there in stunned silence until finally --

"He really grows on you, doesn't he?" Banner joked awkwardly.

"Loki's gonna drag this out. So, Thor, what's his play?" Steve questioned looking up to the god.

Finally out of his own head he spoke "He has an army called the Chitauri. They're not of Asgard or any world known. He means to lead them against your people. They will win him the earth. In return, I suspect, for the Tesseract."

"An army? From outer space?" Steve asks in disbelief

"So he's building another portal. That's what he needs Erik Selvig for." Nicki said as she put two and two together.

Thor raised an eyebrow "Selvig?"

"He's an astrophysicist." Nicki informed him.

"He's a friend." Nicki had to stop yet another shiver from crawling down her back his voice was sent from the gods, literally.

"Loki has him under some kind of spell, along with one of ours." Natasha speaks plainly

"I wanna know why Loki let us take him. He's not leading an army from here." Concluded Steve.

Bruce shook his head in disgust, "I don't think we should be focusing on Loki. That guy's brain is a bag full of cats, you could smell crazy on him."

"Have care how you speak. Loki is beyond reason, but he is of Asgard, and he's my brother." Thor defended.

"He killed eighty people in two days." Natasha deadpanned

"He's adopted."

"Iridium, what did they need the Iridium for?" Bruce shrugged.

"It's a stabilizing agent." Tony said as he walked in with Coulson "I'll fly you there. Keep the love alive." Tony nodded to agent Coulson before continuing, "means the portal won't collapse on itself, like it did at SHIELD."

"No hard feelings, Point Break. You've got a mean swing." Tony patted the god's arm who looked down at him in disgusted confusion. "Also, it means the portal can open as wide, and stay open as long, as Loki wants."

"Uh, raise the mid-mast, ship the top sails. That man is playing Galaga! Thought we wouldn't notice, but we did." Tony said bothering Nicki's crew covering his eye he looks around "How does Fury see this?"

"He turns." Maria shrugged Tony looks around the monitors placing a button size hacking implant under Fury's desk, without anyone noticing.

"Well, that sounds exhausting. The rest of the raw materials, Agent Barton can get his hands on pretty easily," Tony huffed. "Only major component he still needs is a power source. A high energy density, something to kick start the cube."

"When did you become an expert in thermonuclear astrophysics?" Agent Hill asked.

"Last night. The packet, Selvig's notes, the Extraction Theory papers. Am I the only one who did the reading?" Said Tony acting shocked.

Steve sighed. "Does Loki need any particular kind of power source?"

"He's got to heat the cube to a hundredand twenty million Kelvin just to break through the Coulomb barrier." Bruce informed them.

"Unless, Selvig has figured out how to stabilize the quantum tunneling effect." Chimed in Tony.

"Well, if he could do that he could achieve Heavy Ion Fusion at any reactor on the planet." Bruce finished

"Finally, someone who speaks English." Tony smiled shortly.

Nicki scoffed "sorry we'll try to keep a book of nerd translation on deck" it wasn't that Nicki didn't understand what they said she was a smart girl her father made sure of that.

"Is that what just happened?" Steve queried.

"Nerd translation? What are you 5?" Tony mocked it just so happened that Nicki was by far the youngest avenger but she was willing to bet all her money she could take down just about any of them in combat.

"A joke about my age? What are you 70?"

"Try 41" he said crossing his arms.

Nicki chuckled dryly before speaking Oh believe me Anthony, I know.

Tony's eyes grew dark he said nothing else as he turned back to Bruce shaking his hand.

"It's good to meet you, Dr. Banner. You're work on anti-electron collisions is unparalleled" Stark complimented. "And I'm a huge fan of the way you lose control and turn into an enormous green rage monster."

"Thanks." Bruce said while looking down.

No one took notice (besides Nicki) of Fury walking in the room until his voice made it very apparent "Dr. Banner is only here to track the cube. I was hoping you might join him."

Let's start with that stick of his. It may be magical, but it works an awful lot like a HYDRA weapon." Steve said looking around the room.

"I don't know about that, but it is powered by the cube" Fury stated. "And I'd like to know how Loki used it to turn two of the sharpest men I know into his personal flying monkeys."

"Monkeys? I do not understand." Thor's eyebrows furrowed in confusion.

"Basically his puppets" Nicki informed the god.

"I do! I understood that reference." Steve exclaimed raising a finger Tony rolled his eyes, while Cap looked proud of himself.

"Shall we play, doctor?" Tony asked Bruce

"Let's play some." With that the two headed to the Helicarrier lab to do their tech wizardry As Banner and Tony walked out, the Galaga player turned ever so discreetly, watching as everyone else disperses, going right back to playing.

Why couldn't this be like Galaga?

Nicki ignored the repetitive punching and the loud breathing as she entered the building she was sent to recruit the star spangled banner himself.

"Trouble sleeping?" Nicki asked as her heels clicked against the tile floor.

"I slept for seventy years, ma'am. I think I've had my fill."

"Ma'am makes me sound old, Nicki" she nodded shaking his calloused hand "you should be out, celebrating, seeing the world."

Steve stopped punching and walked over to the bench, unraveling the tape off his hands before sitting down.

"I went under, the world was at war, I wake up, they say we won. They didn't say what we lost."

Nicki subconsciously rolled her eyes. Brooding men were always the worst men, "We've made some mistakes along the way. Some more recent than others."

"You here with a mission, ma- Nicki?" He corrected himself.

"Unfortunately" she shrugged.

Steve shook his head with a light smile "Trying to get me back in the world?"

"Trying to get you to save it." Nicki handed him a file on the Tesseract, along with other files on HYDRA'S projects.

"Hydra's secret weapon." He spoke plainly.

"Howard Stark fished that thing out of the ocean when he was searching for you." She told him "He thought what we think, the Tesseract could be the key to unlimited sustainable energy. That's something the world sorely needs right now."

Steve raised an eyebrow" Who took it from you?"

"His name's Loki. He's not from around here. There's a lot we'll have to bring you up to speed on if you're in. The world has gotten even stranger than you already know." Nicki said as she sat next to the soldier taking the file back.

"At this point, I doubt anything would surprise me." He scoffed out a chuckle .

"Ten bucks says you're wrong." Nicki smiled blandly in a sing-songy tone. "There's a debriefing package waiting for you back at your apartment."

Steve stood up to leave picking up a punching bag on his way out.

"Is there anything you can tell us about the Tesseract that we ought to know now?" Nicki questioned pushing her hair out of her face.

Steve sent her one last look "You should have left it in the ocean."

Nicki stood far atop of the Helicarrier watching as Captain America finally landed. She'd like the breeze in her hair it made her forget they were at odds with evil something she often thought about.

Not many things made her happy same went for people she was definitely watch you'd call an introvert.

"Gentlemen, lady" she nodded to Natasha as she warped behind the three not quite superheros. "you may wanna step inside in a minute. It's gonna get a little hard to breath."

Suddenly the Helicarrier started to shake as it prepared to fly or sail as she called it.

"Is this is a submarine?" Steve asked spinning around to Nicki.

Bruce scoffed "Really? They wanted me in a submerged pressurized metal container?"

Steve and Bruce followed Nicki as she moved to the edge of the Helicarrier watching as four huge lift fans mounted on the side of the aircraft lifting them into the air taking flight, Steve watching in awe as Banner smiled.

"Oh, no. This is much worse."

Nicki lead them to the bridge of the ship a flurry of activity all around the room. Dozens of agents sat in front of their viewscreens.

Agent Hill shouts for her instructs to leave. Turning to Fury, who is at his command chair.

"We're at lock, sir." Maria said standing below him.

"Good. Let's vanish." With that the Helicarrier rised higher into the sky. Suddenly, the entire ship was covered in reflecting mirrors, which then camouflaged them in the sky.

Steve and Banner walk through the glorious, gleaming bridge, taking his position at the science counsel Fury spoke "Gentlemen."

Steve takes out his wallet passing Nicki 10 bucks as she reached around her father she smiled ignoring her father's questioning stare "thank you Captain"

"Doctor thank you for coming" Fury extended his hand which Banner, reluctantly shook.

"Thanks for asking nicely." He paused "So, uh... how long am I staying?"

"Once we get our hands on the Tesseract, you're in the clear." Fury nodded.

"Where are you with that?" Banner questioned.

Fury turned to Agent Coulson to explain, while Natasha eyed an image of Clint Barton on an agents screen.

"We're sweeping every wirelessly accessible camera on the planet. Cellphones, laptops." He listed "If it's connected to a satellite, it's eyes and ears for us."

"That's still not gonna find them in time." Natasha frowned

Bruce shrugged "You have to narrow the field. How many spectrometers do you have access to?"

"How many are there?" Nicki asked

"Call every lab you know, tell them to put the spectrometers on the roof and calibrate them for gamma rays. I'll rough out a tracking algorithm based on cluster recognition. At least we could rule out a few places. Do you have somewhere for me to work?" Bruce queried softly.

"That was the most he's said since he's been here" Nicki thought.

"Agent Romanoff, would you show Dr. Banner to his laboratory, please."

Natasha nodded as she walked off, leading Banner down the hall. "You're gonna love it, Doc. We got all the toys."

Nicki sat in the driver's seat of one of the Quinjets, Natasha in the passenger right beside her. They seem to have made it just in time cap look to be getting quite the beating.

"Loki, drop the weapon and stand down." Natasha spoke through the speaker of the Quinjet. Like greased lighting, Loki sends a blast of blue at the Quinjet. Nicki maneuvered it just in time, giving Cap the time to throw his shield at Loki. They both begin to duke it out.

Loki flung Cap to the ground. Cap then threw his shield, but Loki swatted it away. Cap, using all the moves of a boxer, is knocked down by Loki. Standing over him, he points the scepter's tip on his helmet.

"Kneel."

"Not today!" Cap flips and knocks him out with his leg. Loki grabs him and flips him over.

Suddenly inside the Quinjet, AC/DC's "Shoot to Thrill" overdrives the speakers.

"Ladies, did you miss me?" Tony's voice rang through their ears, Both Cap and Loki look up at the sky in confusion.

Tony flies over in his Iron man suit before blasting Loki right back to the ground. Iron man touche down standing up aiming his hand blasters at Loki's face "Make your move, Reindeer Games."

Loki puts up his hands in surrender. His armor materializing away. "Good move."

"Mr. Stark." Steve greeted.

"Captain."

Now that everyone was inside the Quinjet Nicki watched the skies, thunder coming out of nowhere. Fury speaks over her headset. _Said anything?"

"Not a word." Nicki answered.

"Just get him here. We're low on time." With that he disconnected without another word.

"Love you too dad." she mocked.

With Loki tied up and cuffed to his seat, Tony and Steve watch from a distance, whispering to one another.

"I don't like it." Steve muttered.

"What? Rock of Ages giving up so easily?" Tony joked.

"I don't remember it being ever that easy" Steve said looking behind his shoulders. "This guy packs a wallop."

"Still, you are pretty spry, for an older fellow. What's your thing? Pilates?" Tony questioned ignoring Cap's concerns.

"What?'

"It's like calisthenics. You might have missed a couple things, you know, doing time as a Capsicle." Tony shrugged lightly.

Steve looked at Tony, a look of disgusted disbelief on his face not realizing he had finally met his ego match. "Fury didn't tell me he was calling you in."

Tony scoffed "Yeah, there's a lot of things Fury doesn't tell you."

thunder and lightning nearly hit the jet, making it shake violently.

"Where's this coming from?" Natasha gawked as thunder rumbles overhead. Loki staring out the window intently.

"What's the matter? Scared of a little lightning?" Taunted Steve.

"I'm not overly fond of what follows." He sighed.

outside the jet a blinding light hits the jet. What they thought was a light turned out to be a man, said man ripped open the ramp knocking Tony out of his way.

Grabbing Loki by the throat he flew out leaving Steve and Tony dumbstruck. Tony quickly put his Iron man helmet on, "Now there's that guy."

"Another Asgardian?" Natasha wondered.

"Think the guy's a friendly?" Steve asked Tony.

"Doesn't matter. If he frees Loki or kills him, the Tesseract's lost." Tony turned getting ready to jump off the jet to chase after Thor.

"Stark if you go out there I will cut your power receptors and hide your big man size charger so you power off forever" Nicki threatened.

"Stark, what she means is we need a plan of attack!" Steve corrected. Nicki meant exactly what she said it was nothing for her to throw water on him and call it a day.

"I have a plan. Attack." Iron man jumped out of the jet chasing after Thor, Cap grabbed a parachute looking to follow him.

"Sit this one out, Cap." Nicki commanded "don't make me tell you twice."

"I don't see how I can." He shrugged

"These guys come from legends, they're basically gods." Natasha argued

"They are gods" Nicki countered.

"There's only one God, ma'am. And I'm pretty sure he doesn't dress like that." Cap jumped out of the jet not even given Nicki a passing glance.

Nicki let out a sigh before punching the dashboard in front of her leaving a dent so big you would have thought she herself was the Hulk, "you wanna disobey me too?" Nicki asked Natasha who shook her head.

She was gonna have a field day with those two.

It's a man with long black hair, a smile sprawled across his face in a mischievous manner, he raised his head. The smile dying down. He looked deep into the eyes of Fury, Nicki, Barton and Selvig. Standing up, he held a scepter.

"Sir, please put down the spear!" Fury commanded.

He looked down at his spear as if reminded of his power, suddenly pointing it at where Fury, Nicki, and Barton were standing and shoots out and exploding blue light toward them. Barton tackles Fury and Nicki and barely missing the blast.

Machine gun fire is shot at the man, but the bullets ricochet off him like rubber. He jumps high from the platform and attacks the guards firing at him.

In the blink of an eye, the intruder takes down several guards with his knives and energy blasts from the scepter.

He stops and waits to see who will attack him next. Honestly, the whole lab has almost gone to shit. Barton tries to stand up but the male quickly walked towards him. As Barton raised his gun the stranger grabbed Barton's hand.

"You have heart." He mutters pointing the head of his spear at Barton's chest. Barton's eyes suddenly glow black then fade blue just like the Tesseract.

The ability to control Barton's mind was now in his hands. Barton puts his ear piece away standing up straighter.

The man seemed busy using his abilities to control the minds of several S.H.I.E.L.D. personnel, Nicki watched as Fury took the Tesseract, placing it back into its case and following him as he snuck out of the lab.

"Please don't. I still need that." The intruder said stopping the pair.

"This doesn't have to get any messier." Nicki warned raising her arms in defense.

"Of course it does. I've come too far for anything else." He paused regaining himself "I am Loki of Asgard, and I am burdened with glorious purpose."

Selvig gasped quietly "Loki? Brother of Thor?"

Nicki was perplexed why I the world would the gods come down just to pick a fight with them? they hadn't done anything, or had they Nicki thought eyeing her father suspiciously.

"We have no quarrel with your people." Fury said confused.

Loki smirked maliciously, "An ant has no quarrel with a boot."

"You planning to step on us?" Fury questioned pretending to sound offended.

"I come with glad tidings, of a world made free."

"Free from what?" Nicki scoffed, another villain with a hero complex.

"Freedom. Freedom is life's great lie. Once you accept that, in your heart..." Like a gunslinger, Loki turns to face Selvig who'stood behind him and placed the spear against Selvig's heart. Selvig's eyes begin glow black also fading blue. "You will know peace."

"Yeah, you say peace, I kind of think you mean the other thing."

From the vacuum chamber ceiling, the Tesseract energy cloud rapidly builds into what Nicki could assume may be an implosion.

"Sir, Director Fury is stalling. This place is about to blow. Drop a hundred feet of rock on us." Looking to the two Barton continued "they mean to bury us."

"Like The Pharaohs of Odin." Nicki smirked crossing her arms.

Selvig typed something into the computer "He's right. The portal is collapsing in on itself. You got maybe two minutes before this goes critical."

"Well, then..." Loki raises his eyebrow looking to Barton almost as a signal Hawkeye , Shoots Fury who falls to the ground.

Nicki's hands began to shake as they did every weapon in the hands of the evil SHEILD agents flew out of their reach leaving Barton and the rest unarmedm

Nicki let out a loud hiss as she felt a sharp pain pierce though her abdomen looking down she saw it was a blade that loki had previously used.

Suddenly she was sent flying back by a force so strong that made her clutch her head in immediate pain.

She groaned as she watched Barton grab the case containing the Tesseract leaving the lab with Loki, Selvig and the others.

Forcing herself up she crawled to her walkie talkie "Hill, do you copy?" Nicki asked pulling the blade from her stomach.

Maria stood outside she'd had heard Nicki but she was praying the god hadn't. "Barton is..." Maria got no time to hear the rest before Barton began shooting at her.

Clint hopped in the driver's seat of the Jeep still shooting at the agent as he drove away.

"Dad? Dad?" Nicki called for her father who didn't answer he was to busy pulling the bullet from his pierced skin.

Snatching the walkie talkie out of Nicki's hands he spoke "He's got the Tesseract! Track it down!"

As the Tesseract's storm was still brewing in the vacuum chamber Nicki threw her father's arm around her neck before running as fast as she could out of the building.

The pair made it safely through the building dodging a couple falling beams. Nicki could feel the ground shake underneath her feet.

"Get in the passenger I'll fly" Nicki told her father as she jumped in the aircraft. She watched as her father scrambled "looking for something?"

Pressing a button on the control panel the back of the jet converted into a weapon wall complete with grenades and all.

"All I need is one" Fury smirked confidently taking one of the guns down.

The surface of the landing pad began to give way right after Nicki had gotten the aircraft off the ground and up into the sky she watched in the rearview mirror as the place they had work so hard for fall as if it were nothing.

Fury slid open the chopper's door as he began shooting at the Jeep carrying the evil god and the tesseract.

Loki looked up at Fury and in a fit of rage, pointed his scepter which shot out a blue light. The chopper soon caught on fire.

Nicki tried to stable the plane her hands shaking against steering wheel she tilted the plan to the side giving them enough time to jump safely before the aircraft touched ground.

Nicki brushed her hair out of her face before standing next to her father who was shooting at the Jeep but they were too far and too late. Loki looked back a victorious smiling on his face.

"Director? Director Fury, do you copy?" Agent Phil Coulson said through the walkie talkie.

Fury paused before answering "the Tesseract is with the hostile force. I have men down. Hill?"

"A lot of men still under, don't know how many survivors" she said almost as if straining.

Nicki stood there watching the spot the Jeep had just been at, she wasn't mad she was angry. Snatching the walkie talkie out of her father's hand she spoke "Coulson, get back to base. This is a level seven as of right now, we are at war."

"What do we do?" He asked softly.

Nicki didn't know she looked up to her father who started off in the distance.

But she could tell behind that eye patch was the plan of a lifetime.

Ever since Aphrodie was a young girl she knew she was destined to live a great life, colored or not that happily ever after would be hers.

She lived in a small home with her mother who charmed the men with just the sway of her wide hips and and a flip of her curly hair.

Her mother (Lilly) was mixed white and black she'd always been hidden by her father who was far to scared about the consequences to face his actions but grandma she was strong raised Lilly all on her own.

Aphrodie's father passed when she was six and of course he was black. His genes left her 25 percent white and she was fine with that, she thought being white was boring. She'd liked her skin and she loved her hair the way it was absolutely carefree and did what it wanted when it wanted, her mom always said it had a mind of it's own.

One day Aphrodie was sitting outside by herself just crying her little her out. "What's wrong?" she'd heard someone say.

Looking up she wiped her face quickly before gasping quietly. It was a white boy his eyes blue and his hair blond she said nothing as she stared at him in shock.

"Don't you speak?" he asked sitting beside her. Aphrodie's heart began to race she'd never seen a white person in real life before she was estranged.

"Of course I speak" she sniffled, what kind of question was that?

"Well go on then, what's wrong?" he pressed giving her his undivided attention.

She didn't want to talk about it, she'd fear the tears she'd been holding back would fall like a fountain.

"My daddy..." she tried to say before a few stray tears streamed down her face and a burning lump caught in her throat.

As if suddenly understanding her he didn't ask her another question instead he wrapped his arms around her pulling her into a hug.

"I'm Elvis" he smiled pulling away from the girl.

"Aphrodie" she nodded with a slight smile.

"Well Aphrodie, how bout you come play with me and my friends" he offered pointing to a few black boys who she didn't even notice had been there the whole time.

"I'd like that" she beamed running after Elvis.

Is this what all white people were like? She'd soon come to find out they weren't all this nice.

Ever since then her and Elvis were as thick as thieves, where ever she went Elvis was sure to follow and vice versa.

On this day Elvis had convinced her to come with him to the club, the one the adults were only allowed into. They peeped through a hole in the wooden building.

Aphrodie's breath caught in her throat she watched as a woman and man danced sensually against each other. This was the kind of thing she'd seen once on TV when she'd pass by a store. She never got to watch for to long before her mother would cover her eyes.

"Elvis, maybe we shouldn't be watching this" Aphrodie squeaked pulling the boy away by his overalls.

"Did you see how they danced?" he asked. Aphrodie noticed a gleam in his eyes the same gleam her mother said she had whenever she'd sing.

"Now listen here that gleam is something no one can take away from you they can try all they'd like but that there is yours and it comes from here" Lilly would tell her pointing to the girl's heart.

"I saw it Elvis" she nodded "it felt dirty."

"It looked dirty" he remarked.

Aphrodie stood in the back room of a small tailor shop that she'd work at in the morning through afternoon picking up needles that had fallen from a table.

There was so many things she could complain about. Her back hurt, her feet hurt, but her pockets seemed to suffer the most.

Aphrodie's hips swayed as she walked to the front of the store where Mr. Lansky had been fitting B.B. King for a tux.

"It took forever but the needles are all sorted" she sighed handing them to the man.

"Why don't you go help the gentleman over there" Mr. Lansky said pointing to a white man with the blackest hair she ever did see.

He was cute Aphrodie sure couldn't deny that, he looked about the same age as her and the extra layer of black around his eye mde her wonder if he'd been wearing makeup.

"Hi, how can I help you?" she grinned

Elvis looked up from his shoes that sat in the counter he was at a lost for words. He'd seen some pretty girls but nothing quite like her.

He cleared his throat. "The shoes, I just wanna pay for the shoes."

As Aphrodie rung him up she'd realized these were the exact pair she'd been saving up to buy for her grandaddy on his birthday.

Her smile faltered as she bagged the black shoes. "What's the matter?" He asked taking notice to her now glum look.

She sighed "Oh it's nothing, nothing important at least."

"Well if it's bringing a frown to a pretty face like yours than it must be important" Elvis said a sudden boldness washing over him.

Aphrodie raised an eyebrow. Did he a white man just call her a black women pretty. This was beyond foreign she didn't even know what to say.

"I- I'm sorry" he muttered bowing his head in shame.

Aphrodie shook her head, "don't be sorry for being nice, thank you."

Aphrodie passed the bagged shoes to him their hands gently grazing one another's a certain friction she had never felt before.

looking up through her lashes she saw the man staring down at her, had he noticed the friction too?

"Well thank you kindly but I best get going" Elvis smiled before exiting the little shop making Aphrodie's heart thump. He was the prettiest boy she ever did see.

The night was dark but it held a certain mystery Aphrodie always seemed to like. When she worked at little ol' club handy it was like she was a whole different person.

She clapped along to the singer little Richie she'd heard someone say laughing as he played the keyboard with one leg on top of it.

This was the job she liked she didn't have to pretend to be something, she wasn't she didn't have to talk all proper for the white folks these were here people.

Aphrodie was turned to the drink shelf behind her putting the alcohol beverages in their right places.

"Excuse me" she'd heard someone say turning around her smile as big as ever.

"What can I do you for?" her eyes widen as she realized this was the same white boy she'd seen at her day job suddenly she felt as if her mystery was gone.

Elvis' smile seemed to broaden "well aren't you just a working lady."

"Well you have to be when you're poor" she scoffed out a chuckle.

She could tell the subject of money had made him feel bad as he looked to his suede shoes. why did she have to go and make it awkward?

"I never did ask your name" she smiled, he looked up at her confused.

"You don't know my name?"

"I guess I don't" she knew who he was of course it just seemed like she'd forgotten what he went by she was never very good with names.

"Elvis, Elvis Presley" he introduced with a thick smile.

"Elvis? you're Elvis Presley!" she beamed. A frown washed over his features as if his mystery had also been sucked away too.

Taking notice to this Aphrodie shook her head, "no, no your Elvis Presley!" she said once more. He was getting a little sick of hearing her say that "we grew up together!"

As if a light switched on in his brain he spoke "Aphrodie Miller?" he gawked.

Aphrodie wrapped her arms around his neck allowing him to pull her over the wooden counter into an even bigger hug.

"I thought I'd never see you again, mama" Aphrodie didn't know where this pet name came from but she sure did like it.

"I see life's been treating you good and you look..." she paused before examining him, he sure was that scrawny blond boy from Memphis anymore "good."

Elvis could have laughed right in her face he looked nothing compared to her. Tahe way her black curly hair framed her face, the way her chest bounced when she laughed she was no girl, she was a woman.

Especially his kind.

Nicki lived her life as if it were in risk everyday and in her case it was. She has found it hard to enjoy certain wholesome aspects of her life all thanks to the man who raised her.

She didn't have friends growing up. "you don't need more people to fight for" her dad loved to say.

But his favorite line always seemed to be the silent one, that's when she knew she disappointed him most.

She stood outside SHEILD agent Coulson right behind her watching as a helicopter landed. She said nothing agent Maria Hill stepping out of the chopper.

She held in her breath trying to look as professional as possible as Nick Fury took his turn exiting the aircraft, adorning his long leather trenchcoat as always.

"How bad is it?" He asked skipping the niceties which by now she'd grown use to.

"That's the problem, we don't know" she said as she took of her sunglasses that blocked her face from the dirt that picked when they landed.

Leading her father, Hill, and Coulson down to the radiation section of the facility she ignored the technicians and agents who seemed to scatter around the building collecting their valuables and hauling ass.

"Selvig read an energy surge from the tesseract four hours ago" agent Coulson informed them as he walked beside Nicki.

"NASA didn't authorize Selvig to test phase" Fury looked down at Nicki.

Nicki knew she'd be to blame for this as if she was the one who insisted on harboring a blue space cube for their own selfish benefit. If anything she was the one against but Nick Fury, just couldn't be wrong.

"He wasn't testing it." She said pushing her hair hair behind her ear, "funny thing is he wasn't even in the room, call it a spontaneous event."

"It just turned itself on?" Agent Hill asked?

"Where are the energy levels now?" her dad questioned dismissing the attentive agent.

"Climbing." Coulson announced.

"When Selvig couldn't shut it down I ordered evac" Nicki told him.

"How long till we get everyone out?" Fury asked quickly.

"Campus should be clear in the next half hour" Coulson answered.

"Do better" he said. Even though it was in response to Coulson Nicki knew it was meant for her, especially because he didn't even look in her direction.

Walking down to the radiation facility they left Coulson behind so he could patrol the halls making sure everything that needed to be gone was gone.

"Sir evacuation may be futile" agent Hill said as the three walked down the stairs.

Nicki knew she meant no harm by it but she had no time to deal with criticism when their lives where at risk. She didn't need to be criticized she needed to make sure everyone made it out safe.

"We should tell them to go back to sleep?" Fury's brow cocked.

Maria sighed, "If we can't control the Tesseract's energy, there may not be a minimum safe distance."

"I need you to make sure that phase 2 prototypes are shipped out." Her father requested.

"Is that really a priority right now?" Nicki gawked. she seen him put many useless things before others but to care for a prototype more than the lives of workers was a new low.

"Until such time as the world ends, we will act as though it intends to spin on." Fury stopped as he looked down at his daughter on the stairs before speaking to Hill. "Clear out the tech below. Get every piece of phase 2 on a truck and gone."

"Yes, sir." Agent Hill nodded before commanding two guards to follow her.

The two finally reached the facility where the tesseract was being kept. Nicki's heels clicked against the cold floor, she hated this room and avoided at all costs.

"Talk to me, doctor." Fury exclaimed as he walked over to Selvig.

The doctor looked up from the cube rushing to Fury and Nicki, the Tesseract seemed to be glowing unusually brighter and flare rings shot out at random.

"Director." He huffed out in shock.

"Is there anything we know for certain?" Fury asked.

"The Tesseract is misbehaving." The man answered back as quick as possible. Well of course they already knew that Nicki thought.

"Is that supposed to be funny?"

"No, it's not funny at all. The Tesseract is not only active, she's...misbehaving."

Nicki looked down to her watch checking the time. "How soon until you pull the plug?"

"She's an energy source. If we turn off the power, she turns it back on. If she reaches peak level..." Selvig begun to trail off

"We've prepared for this, doctor. Harnessing energy from space." Fury reminded.

"We don't have the harness. Our calculations are far from complete. Now she's throwing off interference radiation." He paused, "Nothing harmful, low level of gamma radiation."

"That can be harmful." Nicki gawked staring at the man as if he were an alien.

"Where's Barton?" Fury queried as he looked around the room.

"The Hawk? Up in his nest, as usual." Selvig spoke his face scrunched in a distasteful manner.

Barton, dressed in black tactical gear, sat up on the railings watching them down below, Fury called for Barton on his earpiece.

"Agent Barton, report."

Barton swung down from the catwalk. Walking up to Nicki and Fury. The three walk around the facility in a discreet manner.

"I gave you this detail so you could keep a close eye on things." Nick sounding as if he were blaming the man.

"Well, I see better from a distance." He said ignoring Fury's accusing tone.

"Are you seeing anything that might set this thing off?" Nicki looked over to the tesseract that she feared getting closed to.

A NASA scientist interrupted them "Doctor, it's spiking again."

"No one's come or gone. It's oven is clean. No contacts, no I.M.'s." he shrugged "If there was any tampering, sir, it wasn't at this end."

"At this end?" Fury stood confused.

"Yeah, the cube is a doorway to the other end of space, right?" The doors open from both sides. Clint explained.

Dr. Selvig clacks away at the keyboard and sees on the monitor something he hadn't expected to. Suddenly the Tesseract thundered and shook the entire facility. Big enough to where both Agent Hill and Coulson can feel even though they were at different ends of the facility.

The flaring rings and glow of the cube spout out brighter and louder, like a boiling pot of water. The Tesseract's energy building up into a beam at the end of a platform wired to the CMS device. The beam fires the Tesseract's energy.

The beam then forms a vortex, which then opens up a portal and a black hole isq created. From the portal, the blackness of space, beautiful and mysterious, strewn with a billion stars appears and a gust of blue energy clouds fills the room, blinding everyone inside.

The Tesseract's energy forms into a cloud that reaches to the top of the facility's vacuum chamber ceiling. And for a moment It's abnormally quiet. Then heavy breathing is heard from the platform.

SHIELD guards slowly approach, weapons in hands. A figure kneeling on the platform, smoke coming off it.
