*Last chapter with backstory flashbacks*
Summery:
Unfortunate events lead to the meeting between you and Joel Miller, but the spark between you both ignited a fire. When Joel becomes worried he can’t give you what you deserve you both do and say things you’ll eventually regret- one particular incident leaves you with intense guilt and loneliness. You decide to strike up a deal with Marlene. You would bring that kid to where she needed to go as long as you could get information on Tommy, to secretly give to Joel. You hoped that would lead him to forgive you, and your disappearance wouldn’t be for nothing. Life had other plans, as you’re now bringing Ellie to the fireflies with Joel as your companion. After all, there was hope that your fragile and broken relationship might just be able to be fixed?
Your body stood in the alley way, watching him from afar. You felt a jolt of guilt wash through you. Was he going to understand why you had left when he inevitably discovered your disappearance? Would he even care after you barked out the information that you were holding in? Regardless of your feelings towards him these last few months, you at least felt like this would wash away the sinful feelings you held inside.
He grabs the ration cards from the FEDRA agent and stuffs them in his pocket, his head down as he watched his feet drag across the dusty sidewalk.
Your blood ran cold when you suddenly realized how close you were to him now, a few more steps and he would bump right into you.
“Joel,” You meant it with much more force, but it came out just above a whisper. You hoped he hadn’t heard you, but as soon as his name escaped your lips his dark eyes found yours.
“Shit,” was all that you heard from his lips as he grabbed your arm and escorted you deeper down the alleyway.
You knew you had just cut off a deal that he was about to make. It was written all over his face. You dug your sneakers into the dirt pathway to stop his hurried movements as he clutched your arm. He twisted around at your sudden halt and you forcefully ripped your arm from his grasp.
“Hey, get your hands off me.”
Joel’s eyes narrowed as he wondered why you had seemingly sought him out in this alley way. After the day he had putting bodies in a burning pit, it was like the universe wanted to punish him as he stared into your forest green eyes. Eyes he used to get lost in.
“You need to get away from”-
“I have information on Tommy.” Your words had cut him off mid sentence. He quickly took a look around to make sure the two of you were alone.
“What do you mean? Ya know where he is?”
You stared into his deep brown eyes, some of the pain inside them was clearly something you had once caused.
“I talked to someone on the radio that told me he’s not with the fireflies anymore.” Joel held up a hand to stop you, shaking his head in distaste.
“How the hell you get this information? What did you trade?” He paused. “No. What did you sell?” His eyebrows came together in a point as he stared down at you.
Rolling your eyes you pushed his hand down from out of your face. “You know I have a lot more leverage working in the clinic than you think big guy. Rather then give me the 3rd degree would you like this information or not? I can walk on by and keep it to myself if you’d like.”
You watched his jaw clench and he nodded for you to continue.
“He’s West, somewhere in Wyoming,” You spoke. His face fell at your words. “Look, I know that’s not ideal but I know a guy with a truck battery. His name’s Robert, and he’s worked with Tess so she’ll be able to help you get it.” He was about to say something before your words filled the air again. “But the guy on the radio also told me I had to be careful if I go out looking for him. He wouldn’t go into detail, he just warmed me. I’m not sure if that means he doesn’t want to be found or..”
“Or he’s in trouble.” Joel finished.
Biting the inside of your cheek you took his hand and placed a small white folded piece of paper inside of it.
“I know things between us are unpleasant to say the least, but I care about Tommy too. I hope this heels the wound I made.”
Joel didn’t have time to respond. You quickly walked through the alleyway back to where you had came from. For a moment Joel considered following you, but instead he stared down at the piece of paper in his hands, careful as he unraveled it.

FLASHBACK
You knew that it took exactly three minutes to get to his building. Your heart was racing, and your lips dry and shirt stained with sweat and dirt. You couldn't just sit in your apartment and pace back and forth as the sun found its resting place. You had one hell of a day, a day not even the hottest of showers could wash off. You had to see him, even if it was risking curfew. You cursed to yourself as you lifted your fidgeting body off the cold couch, grabbing your coat and hat before slipping through the front door.
It took you one minute to stealthily decent the three floors of your building. Only one person passed you, and whatever happened during their day seemed to hold their attention as they walked slowly and depressingly past your quick figure. With your jacket hood and black hat keeping you camouflaged, you rushed past them and out of your cold musty building.
It takes you another 38-60 seconds to dip out of the apartment door and into the dark street past three FEDRA agents chatting quietly among themselves. The seconds depended on who those FEDRA agents were. It was another three minutes before you’re finally at his street corner. Your body heats up as you see the basement window of his building, wide open as if inviting you inside. You jog over, and without hesitation squeeze yourself through. Your feet landing with a small thud against a puddle of muddy rain water that covers the concrete flooring. You let out a burst of air from your lungs because you made it safe yet again. You usually put the fear of getting caught out of your mind until the task is done and the breath you didn’t realize you were holding was finally out.
Pushing the hood of your jacket down you make your way through the darkness. You knew these old buildings like the back of your hand. Finding the staircase to the first floor was nothing, but you also knew that being as quiet as you could be was your best and only option. Before you knew it you were up three stories and at his front of his door. The heat in your body rose quickly to your cheeks. If you bit any harder on your bottom lip you were going to draw blood. Before your better judgement could kick in your fist is knocking quickly at the stained apartment door.
It creeps open just a slit, and you see his dark eyes. At first they were curious as to who was at his door after curfew, but they softened when they focused on you. The door swings all the way open and he’s looking at you with wide eyes full of fear. He grabs your coat and yanks your body into his apartment before his head is wiping around the hallway making sure that someone hadn’t seen you. You almost opened your mouth to let him know that you were not new to sneaking out past curfew, but you didn’t say anything. The door suddenly slammed shut and you were now in the middle of his kitchen looking up at his now angry stature. Even though he looked upset with your actions, there was still that softness of his eyes as they scanned your body.
“What the hell is wrong with you?” His voice was hushed and your heart start beating a little faster. Your ears were certainly red as tomatoes under your hat.
“I don’t know,” you whispered back. You scanned his appearance. Clearly catching him fresh out of the shower and into a clean black shirt and a pair of dark gray sweatpants that had seen better days.
“Are you alright?” He took a step closer to you, his arm shot up to touch yours, but suddenly recoiled back as if he noticed the movement he was just about to make.
That was enough for you.
You quickly shed your coat, leaving it a heap on the floor before ripping the hat from your head and crashing your body against Joel’s. Your lips locking for the first time sent an electric shock through your body. His facial hair was rough, but you were surprised how soft his lips were. He moaned lightly as your tongues found each others. His rough hands squeezed your hips, which makes you pull back and look at him. His was staring at you with as much lust as you felt inside your heart. He wanted, no needed, this as much as you did.
“I’m better now, ” you whisper before you both melted into each other hungrily.
Flashback
You had always been someone who believed in good people and that positivity was key to success. You believed the sun shined everyday for a reason. Damn, you even believed all of that after your 16 year old self watched your Daddy jump across the dining room table and bite a chunk out of your Mother’s neck.
You were the middle of three siblings. Your younger sister, Willow, had died just 10 or so miles shy of what would soon become the Boston QZ. Smugglers had raided the old medic tents where you and your siblings had been living for the 5 years after the end of humanity. They took all the medical supplies you had, including Brooks, the older gentleman who had taken in your trio and showed you everything he knew of medicine from his time as an Army Medic. They tied him up as you begged for them to stop.
That day you learned that begging never changed anything, and you still take that lesson with you throughout life. Ethan was your older brother who took it upon you both to head towards the center of Boston after the devastating loss of your younger sister and father figure.
Boston meant more shelter, it was somewhere safe before you find a new permanent residence. Ethan was only 11 months older than you but he acted as if he had the whole world on his shoulders after blaming himself for not keeping you or Willow safe. He struggled with finding anything good left in the world.
He spiraled when Boston soon shut out everyone from the outside world around them. Boston QZ was forming and Ethan’s mental health was failing. It shifted drastically when they met Tess, and he began smuggling. You were thrown into working at the Boston clinic with your knowledge in medicine. Although, Ethan and Tess had shown you a lot about trading and smuggling goods as well. You usually only traded pain meds for things like abortion pills and Birth control for struggling women who were either being raped by guards or in a domestic violence situation.
Ethan was killed on a run with Tess just two years after the QZ had formed. It was 4 years after that when you stitched up Joel Millers head wound.
It was the first time you had even met the man. You had been close to his brother, Tommy for a few months. The two of you had met at the FEDRA clinic while Tommy was there dropping off supplies.
He had the most welcoming accent, and he made you laugh.
“Whats even in this thing anyways?” He asked as he dropped a heavy cardboard box down in front of you. Carefully opening it, you pulled out a few random assortments of cloth and a package of gauze. Tommy bent down and grab a small plier looking tool from the box.
“Do I even wanna know what this thang does?” He held it up, moving it around to inspect it closer.
You giggled lightly and took it from his hands. “That’s a umbilical cord clamp. This box should go upstairs, we don’t have many births come through the clinic…anymore.”
He watched your face fall, knowing that the Boston QZ had become a place unsuitable for children and even worse for mothers.
“Hey, you hear about those babies that were born before - you know, the ones in them high tech rooms?” He leaned his body against the door frame and crossed his arms. You raised her eyebrows at him, wondering what the hell this random man was talking about.
“No…?” You answered questioningly.
“They were born cordless.”
His smile spread across his whole face, and you could tell he was extremely proud of his joke. Sure it was funny, but the smile on your face was because you had finally found someone in this horrible world that still had that shine in them, exactly like the one you still harbored. He too, thought the sun shined everyday for a reason.
PRESENT DAY
You made it back to your apartment building. Busting through the door your first destination was to your bedroom. You scooped up an old brown backpack from the floor and headed towards the dresser. As you stuffed useful items in your bag you started to feel the sweat beading on your forehead. You really needed to hurry the fuck up. Time was getting away from you and you were certainly supposed to be back to Marlene’s hideout by now. The detour to find Joel had really pressed you for time to gather the materials you needed to get Ellie to where she needed to go. Running over to the nightstand you pulled out your gun, emptying the bullets into the front pocket of your backpack before zipping it up. One more thing, you reminded yourself. The stack of ration cards from the side of her bed. The kitchen was your next stop for the few items of food you still had.
Once you were done you took one last look around your lonely apartment. Your eye caught a flannel on the back of the couch. It had been there for months, untouched. You remembers when he took it off, and you remembered that he had left it there on purpose… a reason for returning. Except he never did, and it bit at you to know that it was partially your fault. Taking in in a breath you sprinted over and retrieved the flannel and threw it around your waist before exiting the apartment. The creaky door shut for the last time and you slide the ration cards under your neighbors door. He was 68 years old-and he deserved them more than you ever did.
“THE FUCK TOOK YOU SO LONG?” Marlene’s voice shot out as you entered the abandoned building she was hiding out in.
“You try hiding from FEDRA agents on the street after not showing up at the clinic. I had to take every side alley and then some. Give me a fucking break,” You hissed back, throwing your bag onto the table so that Marlene could examine what you had packed, making sure everything on you wasn’t about to kill her.
“The gun stays with me for now.” She pushes it in the waistband of her pants before sliding the backpack back towards you.
You rolled your eyes, “Great.”
“She was asking for you after you left. Think you have a fan.” Marlene hinted towards the door. You grabbed your bag and made your way over to the door where you entered quickly.
“FUCK. I thought you died,” Ellie breathed out, relief flooding her face.
“Unfortunately for you, I’m still kickin’ it.” You replied, throwing your bag on the beat up couch before sliding your body down the side of the wall to sit beside your young companion. You both sat in silence for a few moments.
“Why are you doing this?” Ellie whispered, you could feel the heat of her stare burning into the side of your face.
The words came out soft and slow, “I made a deal with Marlene, remember?”
“Yeah, use the firefly radio and find out where Timmy was, then you’ll get me to where I need to go. BUT WHY?”
“Tommy.” You corrected her with a smirk. “Plus, it doesn’t matter, Ellie. A deal is a deal.”
You let out a breath you didn’t know you were holding in, running your hands down your face. You didn’t want to explain everything to her. How you had found out Joel was doing dangerous things within the QZ and how you were the one to rat him out in front of his brother about his desperate attempt to to not only find his way out of this life, but to continue to be reckless no matter who loved him. You wanted to rant about the way you’d met Joel before Tommy had introduced the two of you because Tess had dragged you to his apartment to stitch up the wound he made while trying to shoot himself. To be fair, you didn’t know he was Tommy’s brother until weeks later. You wanted to explained How your words were the final straw that made Tommy’s decision to leave with the fireflies a very easy one. You owed this to Joel, the man who made you feel scary yet beautiful things you’d never felt before. You had hurt him and you wanted to make it right no matter what the cost. He had been your reason for getting up everyday for a long time, even if what you had was a well kept secret. You needed to at least know that there was a pinhole of, at most friendship, still left between the two of you.
“How come you know everything about me, but your refusing to tell me who Tommy even is to you? He’s your boyfriend isn’t he?” She raised an eyebrow and you shot her look of disgust.
“No.” It tumbled out of your mouth rather quickly.
“Brother?”
“NO.”
“Was he your secret lover?”
“What? Ellie, drop it.” You dropped your head back against the hard wall. “How about we get through the hard part and once I know the two of us are going to make it to where we’re supposed to be going I’ll tell you in full detail why I needed to know where Tommy is.” You looked over at her as she mulled over your offer.
“Fiiinnneeeee, that guy, your star crossed lover…must be really worth it.” She hit your shoulder against her own while she watched your lip turn into a slight smirk at the Child’s attempt to loosen the mood. That guy was worth it, but honestly she wanted to tell her it wasn’t Tommy.

FATE part 6
summery: Colin reminds himself of the reasons he knew you were the girl for him while also becoming increasingly stressed over this case.
Colin’s POV
I parked my cruiser in back of the station, letting it idle as thoughts ran through my head. I was now the lead investigator on Erin’s case now that Mare was on leave, and I don’t want to fuck this up. I drummed my fingers on the steering wheel, my body wanted to turn out of the lot and just keeping driving away from this town, just like she had. This case. Fuck, The situation in yet I tangled myself in yet again with her. I knew by Friday this week that my heart was going to be blasted into a million pieces but maybe I was a glutton for punishment. She’s addicting, I am so drawn to her as if she’s a magnetic field. I had always been sucked into her vortex since the first time I ran into her at that coffee shop. She was always effortlessly beautiful, especially the way her eyes squinted up when she smiled. My mind slowly drifts to a memory of her in the days I knew I was going to marry her.
My alarm had gone off, I had to work that whole weekend and snuck in just a few hours of sleep. I remember the way the sunlight cast over her body that lay tangled in our sheets. I had come home that evening to her unpacking her work bag on the counter, her hair in that messy bun I loved so much. I had snuck into the kitchen and wrapped my arms around her waist, feeling her jolt into awareness of my body now pressed against her back.
“What are you doing home this early?” She turned around, pressing her hands on either side of my face, bringing it down for a quick peck on the lips. Her soft lips always plagued my nightmares after she left. Those kisses lingered on my lips as I woke up and realized that she wasn’t there, that she didn’t love me anymore.
“I pulled a few strings, and I got an interview set up in the mornin’ with a witness. So I got out at a decent hour, but I gotta be outta the house early in the mornin tomorrow.”
Her face fell, knowing we wouldn’t get to spend some time together before another work week resurfaced. I hated that she missed me, even thought I wasn’t gone. I realized after she left that I asked her to be extremely patient when it came to my work hours. She never complained due to the nature of the work I did, but her face usually had the hint of disappointment in it when I explained how many hours I’d have to clock in each week.
“Hey, I’ll make it up to you. I have a few days off for Christmas. Okay?” I sprinkled more kisses on her cheek and felt her wrap her hands around my body and sigh.
“We have forever together, I know you’re working hard to find that missing kid.” I hated that you turned away in that moment, returning to getting your things out of the overnight bag and organized.
Your voice rang through the kitchen as I started to loosen the tie on my shirt, ready to unwind. “What do you want for dinner?”
“You know, Pizza sounds great but I have this craving. It’s been on my mind all frrrrreakkkinggg week.”
You had turned to me, your eyebrows pointed together quizzically.
“And what might that craving be, Mr. Zabel?”
“Well, Ms. Y/l/n, Its something I daydream about often. Spread out on the kitchen table, ready for me to savor every last bite.”
Her eyes wandered across my face, and as our eyes met, I knew she had caught on to the kind of craving I was looking to fulfill.
“Oh, you daydream about this craving often, huh?” A little teasing grin emerged from her face.
I smirked and let out a small chuckle as she started to undo the buttons of my dress shirt.
“Yeah, now we’re cookin’ with fire baby,” I growled, reaching down to cup her ass in those black buttery soft yoga pants I loved her in. The first kiss tasted like candy, and just got more and more delicious as they came. I could feel the heat in between her legs as she pushed me into our dining room with her hips as our tongues still danced together.
“Shit,” She breathed out as I felt her fumble slightly as I tugged at her sweatshirt. We broke apart so I could peel it over her head, making her bun flip to the other side of her head, and stray hairs falling around her forehead. Nobody ever looked that good in a messy bun.
I let out a small moan as her hands worked quickly to unhook her lace pink bra. Her breasts tumbled out of the cups with ease, and my hands couldn’t contain themselves. I reached up to her chest and feverishly messaged, and delicately twirled her nipples. When she bit my lip, man that’s when it was all over.
“You always crave dessert before dinner?” She whispered in that low raspy voice I only ever heard in the bedroom.
As my hands worked her chest and my mouth occupied the crook of her neck, I could feel that ache in my groin when she started to tug away my belt and unbutton my pants.
She watched as I pulled my pants down, left in boxers. I started to pull my undershirt off when I heard her giggle at the fact my socks had in fact not matched.
I smiled at her, and she pushed a large pile of her papers off the dining table and onto the floor in a hurry.
“I’m going to fucking ravish you, baby.”
She shook her head as she pushed me away from her playfully.
“No sweetie, I get the first taste,” She moved my body as if I was a puppet, placing me laying down on the dining room table - bare assed with my cock straight up waiting for you.
I loved watching her give me head, the way her eyes rolled in the back of her head and her hands gripping my thighs. I let out a deep moan, letting her know the pleasure was going to be short lived if she keeps on using her tongue that way.
She licks the full length of my penis before climbing up on the table, straddling me from above. I pulled my hands to cup her ass again, squeezing her thick soft cheeks as she kisses me. “My turn,” I whispered as we quickly and gracefully rolled into switched positions on the table. Her perfect body now laying down, legs spread as if inviting me in. I felt her breath hitch as I guided myself inside of her. Fuck I will never forget that feeling. That tight squeeze, wet and so fucking warm. I whispered that I loved her, loved her body, loved everything about her as I thrusted my dick inside of her. She was not a quiet girl, but she was reserved and laid back for the most part, but man in the bedroom she was an animal. It surprised me at first, and then once I realized it was exactly what I needed that addiction was intoxicating. I don’t think any girl could ever make me feel half as good as she did.
Her quiet voice pulled me from my drunken pleasure, “I’m gonna cum, Colin.” Her hands found mine and we slowed our intensity. I loved the way her neck and face flushed a perfect pink color as we edged ourselves to completion.
“That’s it baby,” I whispered in between thick breaths as she road out her orgasm- just watching her face scrunch with pleasure pushed me over the edge and I spilled myself inside of her. God, I was done for. She was my forever, it was Fate that brought is together the same coffee spot the day we met.
I closed my eyes, reliving that memory a small smile on my lips when suddenly a knock was at my window.
“We gotta talk Zabel, “ Mare’s harsh voice was muffled by the car window between us.
I turned off the car, taking a deep breath before opening the door.
I was surprised to see her here after getting kicked off the case for some reason I wasn’t able to have as knowledge. “What‘a going on? I thought you were on leave?” I questioned her. Her permanent frown was deeper than normal today. It gave me a slight anxious feeling.
“Why are you talkin’ with Deacon Mark?”
Of course she was here to talk the case, but I knew the shit I’d be in if I continued to let her in on what was going on in the investigation.
“I’d love to chat but this doesn’t really concern you anymore, Mare. we got it handled. Promise.” I placed a hand on her shoulder to calm her nerves, but she shrugged it off.
“ No, it concerns me because I need to find out if there’s a connection with Erin’s case and Katy’s.”
Her tough exterior was something I wasn’t used to. She had only shown me a softer side once or twice, but learning a bit about her past I understand why the guard was ALWAYS up.
“Look, Mare…”
“Shove it, Zabel. You’re talkin’ to a fucking reporter but ya won’t talk to me?”
I gave her a confused look, not understand why she would bring that up- but something was fishy.
“Wait how did you know I was investigating Deacon Mark?”
Mare signed, running a hand through her hair in frustration.
“An unknown source saw ya talking.” She replied.
I wanted to push it further but I had work to do and she was making me late. I know she wanted information but i just couldn’t risk it.
“Sorry Mare, you’re not on the Case.” I started to walk away when I heard a mumbled out of her.
It sounded a lot like “ Well have fun on your date tonight.” But I didn’t want to push it, because there was no way she knew I was going to dinner with you tonight, or was there?

A new Joel Miller x female!OC story!
Summery: Unfortunate events lead to the meeting between you and Joel Miller, but the spark between you both ignited a fire.
When Joel becomes worried he can’t give you what you deserve you both do and say things you’ll eventually regret- one In particular incident leaves you with intense guilt and loneliness.
Enjoy! I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments ❤️
You’re transfixed with the dancing flames, lost in your own thoughts. Joel knew that you were trying to suppress the tears that  threatened to spill from your eyes. Tess was gone.
He wanted to stand, walk over to you as he watched you hugging your knees close to your chest. He yearned to pull you to his warm embrace, whispering promises you that he would protect you. Except he knew that he couldn’t do that because you were both strangers now. He was the last person who knew how to protect anyone he loved. He had learned that from experience. He cursed himself when he let his guard down the first time he met you.
“You got a lot of freckles.”
You were so close to his face, and other than an occasional wince, his eyes were now studying your face as you worked.
His observation caught you off guard, and you suddenly felt a wash of embarrassment run through you. You had always been self conscious of your freckles- inherited down to you from your father. The two of you were the only ones with an array of thick brown dots scattered about your face.
He must have sensed your discomfort, “My Momma, she used to tell me girls with freckles were kissed by angels.”
“Oh is that so?”
“Yes ma’am, and if you were kissed by angels you bring good luck.” His eyes landed on the ceiling, prepping for another ping of the needle, but you were already done. You watched him for a moment. His skin tanned from the sun, and his dark eyes full of mystery. You were anything but lucky, but you were thankful for the one thing that had made your junior high years relentless torture had made this man feel something good for a moment.
“I.. I flinched,” He suddenly spoke, his chest rising and falling as he took a deep breath.
“You don’t need to explain yourself, but for what its worth I’m happy you did.”
He hummed a response and closed his eyes when your needle dug into his head.
“Just be happy it’s not Tess doing this. You’d look like Frankenstein when she was finished with ya.”
Clearing your throat from your own emotions, you patted his shoulder, letting him know he can raise from his lying position on the couch. For a few seconds there was complete silence between the two of you. His eyes landed on your lips you felt your face flush red.
“Thanks…Freckles.” He whispered before slowly getting into a sitting position on the couch. He winced as he adjusted to the feeling of the stitches.
He remembered that day to the very last detail of every second of the day. It was on one had the very lowest he had ever been. Entering the QZ, meeting Tess, getting into smuggling. All after the shit he had been through to get to Boston and he was still traveling down the darkest path. He remembers the way the barrel of his gun looked. It was etched in his mine because he thought it would be the last thing he would ever see before the permanent darkness took over.
But he had flinched, and then he saw you. The way your eyebrows turned down in concern as you approached him. Your white tank top, showing your sunburnt skin and the way a little sweat beaded at your collar bones from being in the stale heat of his apartment.
Now, so many years later you still had those perfect freckles. The ones that he would memorize as you slept next to him in his twin bed after you had sneaked out after the Zone’s curfew. He could have sworn that those freckles made out the Cassiopeia constellation across your right cheek. It would only make sense, because you were so full of love, yet you fucked him like a comet- otherworldly, and always gone too fast.
“I’ll take first watch,” Joel spoke out in the darkness across from his two female travel companions.
Ellie grumbled, already half asleep as she  snuggled into her sleeping back and facing away from the fire.
The silence between you became louder than the crackling wood and distant cricket songs in the night as Ellie fell into a deep sleep.
You started to get up from the ground, avoiding his eyes.
“Where you think you’re goin?” Joel questioned, that yearning to warm you up against his chest rising inside of him again as you tugged your jacket closer to your body.
“I know you’re not my biggest fan, Joel. I’m… I was trying to make things right.”
His breath hitched, and that burning feeling that had been overcoming his chest was starting to creep up as you finally made eye contact. He was frozen. It wasn’t from fear, or anger. He was frozen from guilt.
“Just please…” A tear escaped her eye, and if the back of her hand hadn’t swiped it away so fast he wouldn’t have even noticed at first. “Please don’t be a dick to me in front of the kid.”
The burn was like fire now, sitting in his ribcage. He pressed his lips together looking over at Ellie and nodded slowly.
You walked over to the pile of all of your gear. You reached in your black backpack and pulled out a thick flannel, retreating quietly back over to Ellie who curled up in the fetal position. You laid the thick jacket over the young girl and her sleeping bag before getting into your make shift bed, “Night Miller, wake me when its my shift.”
But Joel kept his eyes on Ellie, his old Flannel he had left at your place in the QZ now dropped over her.
Maybe not all hope was lost.

FATE:
PART 5
Tumblr media
SUMMERY: You first night as an informant for Mare. After spending time with Colin he finally decides he deserves the answers you never gave him.
Colin brought back two bottles of beer from the kitchen, and handed one to me with a small polite smile. He still drank miller Lite- I internally cringed at the memory of how he used to drink them all night up at the lake house. He would get super sappy after 3 or 4 and beg me to slow dance with him to music playing over the old record player that came with the place. Because of those memories, you constantly had to change the station any time ‘Love me tender’ by Elvis came on.
“Shall we dive in?” He asked, pulling me out of my head.
“Let’s,” I nodded back, thanking him for the beverage.
The two of us worked in the living room. I took of my jacket, trying to see if the heat boiling from my body was from my layers or from Colin’s mother’s glare from the dining room. She had made herself comfortable watching us as she pretended to read the paper.
We were professional, not breaking character of our respected roles as we worked, Sargent Sheehan had given me a load of information to slip into Colin's ear and in return I was given the task to relay whatever he gives me back to her.
I couldn’t help but stare at his hands as they grabbed pieces of paper from the files on the coffee table. Those hands had explored my body like a road map. They were gentle and strong all at the same time. Colin knew just about every place I liked to be touched, and he had always handled me like he needed all of me desperately, yet so careful not to be too hard as to break me.
I felt a lump forming in my throat. I had never realized what I was going to miss until it was no longer mine. I chased happiness, but I soon realized it wasn’t real because I had nobody to share it with. Yes, I loved my career but at the expense of what I lost it sometimes felt silly to lie to myself that it was worth it.
“Well, I think we can wrap this up tonight “y/n.”
My eyes snapped up to match Colin’s glare, pulling me from those depressive thoughts that seem to always be haunting me.
“Yeah I ah, I think you have a good start on things, thank you for giving me more to write about,” I smiled as I got up from the couch I had sat on so many times before.
The familiarity of Judy’s home was both comforting and chilling. Judy was a picture perfect mother in law- and I was forever going to be jealous of the girl that got to bake pies with her in the kitchen, go along with her shopping at Bloomingdale’s for sales, and who Judy would show those sweet baby pictures of Colin when he was a little boy- both of them imagining what their future children would look like.
As I stood, my eyes wandered to Judy who had a small smile on her face. She waved politely before returning back to her papers. She was probably pleased to see me leave.
Colin cleaned his throat after picking up all the scattered papers on the table. “I’ll walk you out?”
I turned to him and nodded shyly, a flash of pink had to have brushed my cheeks. I had become a stranger in a home that felt like my own at one point in time.
The cold night air felt nice on my skin after they had burned while being in the Zabel home. My feet felt like they were dragging as we walked quietly to my car parked out front.
I turned, ready to say my goodbyes, but Colin’s hand shot up to stop me.
“Please spare me, y/n. Please don’t say goodnight and leave like you don’t have that brutal feeling in your gut like I do.”
I could feel my face fall as the act of acting ‘normal’ finally crumbled inside of me.
“It’s like… like I swallowed a shit ton of rocks from lunch,” I replied quietly, digging my hands in my pockets as a small gust of wind whipped by us.
“I can’t have you showing up at my mom’s, y/n.”
I sighed, looking down at our feet. He had on casual shoes as opposed to his shiny work ones. They looked like the Nike’s I had gifted him our last Christmas together- the same day he gave me a ring I gave him a pair of shoes. In retrospect, I was the one who could have used the running shoes when I bolted from our engagement.
“I’m so sorry, I thought we could just….” I failed to find words that would accurately match my feelings.
“What? You thought we could pretend that you didn’t tell me you didn’t love me two weeks before you became my WIFE?” Colin cringed as he dragged out that word.
I felt the tear roll down my cheek before I knew that I was crying. He was right, we couldn’t pretend that I didn’t do such a horrible thing. I was learning that I had not done him the favor I thought I did.
“I had to leave Colin, and I'm forever going to regret how I did it.”
His eyes locked mine and I watched him bite the inside of his lip like he does when he was in deep thought.
“I need to know why you didn’t  just have me come with you?” His words finally came out as a whisper, but resinated deep in my soul like he was screaming at me.
I wiped another stray tear from my eye to fix my blurry vision.
“You are the kindest man in the world, Colin Zabel. You would have come with me just to make me happy. I know you love your job and you wanted to stay and live close to your mom and our families for the rest of forever. I knew you would go with me even if you wanted to stay. I couldn’t ask you to do that after everything you ever did for me, but I needed that job. Writing is the therapy I never knew I always needed. You would have supported me at the cost of your own happiness and I didn’t want that resentment between us.”
“You’re projecting.” He stated flatly as he shook his head at me. I scrunched my face in confused.
“You were the one who had resentment. YOU felt like you put me first and took that shitty writing gig and YOU didn’t like it. I would have compromised on just about anything if It would mean I came home at night to you. Nothing, not even my job, or my family, made me happier than coming home to YOU. So you were right, I would have gone wherever you wanted me to because you were it for me. If moving, getting a new job and not seeing family as often meant I would still have you then I would have dropped everything and packed my bags happily!”
I stood there silently, every word hitting me to the core. I had never intended for him to blame himself, I had hoped it would wash away any feelings for me so he could start fresh with someone else who was content in every aspect of their lives.
He ran his hands down his face and I wanted so badly to open my mouth to say anything but nothing I could say would make the pit in my stomach go away.
“I guess… I just…” he drew in a deep breath before our eyes locked again. They were glassy, like tears would soon burst from the floodgates. “I always wanted to know what I did wrong... I just didn’t realize it was because I clearly didn’t show you how much I loved you.”
The sob came from my throat and took me by surprise. Then the tears ran freely off my cheek and onto the pavement between us. Nothing would ever fill the hole that was open in my heart, I knew that for certain now.
“Fuck, I’m sorry.” I felt Colin step closer to me, and looking up I wasn’t expecting to be pushed into his chest while he hugged me. He was actually hugging me.
“I don’t deserve that,” I replied, lightly pushing him away. He didn’t need to be hugging me during this epic meltdown. “I hurt you- you shouldn’t be comforting me.” I sniffed, wiping my nose with the back of my jacket sleeve.
“I didn’t want to make you cry, y/n,” His words were gentle- and your gut felt punched again.
“It’s fine.” I let out a slow breath before trying to compose myself. “I deserve it after everything- Fuck, I didn’t even say goodbye when I left….” I scoffed, now trying to avoid eye contact as words tumbled from my mouth. “I think not saying it gave me hope that our book wasn’t closed, that maybe our story was still unfinished.” I spoke softly, and the tenseness that hung on Colin’s shoulders began to lift.
Colin stared down at me, his hand slipping from my shoulder. I was already regretting pushing away from that hug because his touch was so warm.
Moments between us felt like a lifetime as the night air became more brisk, and I could hear cars on the busier road that was a street over.
“I’m so sorry Colin, I'm just going to go back home early, I think I’m doing more damage than good being here.”  I went for my keys in my purse but Colin grabbed my arm, stopping me.
He cleared his throat, and I watched the wheels in his head turning.
“No, Erin should get the coverage she deserves. Nobody would write her justice as well as you.” I could see the small curl of his lip and I suddenly felt the heat creep up my cheeks.
“Thank you, Colin. But don’t want to”-
“You think tomorrow I can take you up on that dinner invite from this mornin?” Colin’s words cut mine like a knife. I felt my eyebrows raise as I tried to process what he had said to me. sliding his hand from my shoulder and rubbing the back of his neck, I could tell he was nervously waiting for my reply.  I blinked a few times, my eyes drying from all the tears that had come out of me. “For work stuff- you know? Probably better than having my mom watching us like a Russian spy. I swear she read the same page of that paper the whole time we were in there.” He finished. I couldn’t help but laugh a little at his words, and you nodded quickly. Maybe this trip was turning into a plot twist in our story after all.
“I think that's a good idea, yes.”
“Let’s just try not to open anymore wounds okay?”
I nodded again before finally reaching into my purse to grab the rental car keys.
“Thank you, Zabel,” I replied quietly, the feeling of my tail between my legs would probably linger there for a while.
He opened his mouth, closed it and nodded. “See you later, y/l/n,” he gave one last small waved before turned around to walk slowly back up to his childhood home. I fumbled with my keys before walking to the driver’s side to get him. My phone started vibrating in my pocket as soon as I started my vehicle. I fumbled around my pockets before grabbing ahold of the buzzing piece of technology.
“Sheehan” scrolled across the screen and you quickly answered it.
I didn’t even get to say hello before her voice filled my ear “Fill me in.”
Mare was the one helping me get closer to Zabel all while covering this case, but I knew that if he found out I was giving her the information he was presenting to me that his ass was on the line. I just couldn’t stop the urge to be around him, so I let out a sigh before giving her every last detail.

CORE MEMORY 💙
Here is a one shot for the installment of FATE! A little backstory of Reader and Colin when they were engaged!
Tumblr media
I loved when Colin took me to the the Lake house on Wallenpaupack. It was such a quant little area, and the escape from the mundane structure of everyday life was such a serotonin boost for our relationship. Colin and I rented the same lake house every year since we had first gotten together. The way the cute black cabin set itself away from some of the bigger homes on the lake made for a private and romantic getaway. We usually spent 5 nights alone and then invited our families over for the last two nights. It was the vacation we looked forward to every year. It was my time to reflect on what I had acquired through the years of being with Colin. The way he would wrap his arms around me as we watched the morning sunrise was warmer than the cups of coffee in our hands. The way I would watch Colin dive off the dock with my nephews and play water tag -the sound of giggles echoing over the lake. The morning walks we took without our cell phones and just the company of each other as we chatted about future plans and nature as we took it in. It was the one week of the year that I felt completely and utterly whole. I was hopeful that in our old age we would be able to buy the cabin and retire there to spend the rest of our days in complete peace and tranquility.
“Here we are babe!” Colin announced as he parked the car in front of the quiet cabin. The smile on his face was contagious, and I eagerly exited the vehicle and took in the lake smell and the sounds of birds in the trees.
“God, I missed that smell!” I laughed, pulling my bag from the backseat. Colin walked to the safe box and typed in it’s code to retrieve the key. He quickly unlocked the front door and I couldn't help but smile as you looked around the cabin.
“It looks just like we left it.”
I ran my hands over the back of the old yellow couch, the quilt folded neatly in the corner was folded in the same way I’d left it last year.
“I don’t know how many other people Judy rents out to, but I know she likes us the best!” Colin announced as he brought in the last of our bags. He sighed happily as he walked over to the fridge, throwing a few water bottles and his iced coffee inside.
“Hey is that the Christmas card we sent her?” I pointed to the fridge as Colin closed it. He examined the photo and smiled.
“Yeah, that’s Kingston with a Santa hat alright.” Colin laughed lightly at the photo of your black cat that was stuck to the fridge. We had sent her the card with our news of the engagement scribbled on the back.
Colin walked past me towards the wide window in the living room, and he took in the scenery. There was a small deck off the back of the house with two old rocking chairs facing the sparkling lake. A little further out was the dock that swayed lightly in the water. I walked up behind him and wrapped my arms around his torso. He let out a breath and I gently put my head to his back, listening to his breathing. I realized in that moment that it had been a few weeks since I had even given Colin a proper hug. We were passing ships in the night some weeks. His job was all consuming, and my job at the paper was nothing thrilling but it kept me busy. We had gotten engaged at Christmas, so now wedding planning for next year was taking up a lot of my free time.
Colin twisted around so he was now engulfing me in a bear hug. I felt his lips brush against my head in a tender gesture of affection.
“What do you say we grab that bottle of wine and watch the sunset?” I looked up at Colin with a wide child like smile. Sunsets at the lake were my all time favorite. We hadn’t been able to leave town until late today due to a holdup at Colin’s work, but i hadn’t minded since i knew we’d be there so close to sunset.
“You know its rude to read my mind Mr. Zabel,” I joked, pushing a finger into his chest and watching as his lips twisted in a smirk- showing off those delicious little dimples.
“Great, you get the wine and I’ll go change out of work clothes. It doesn’t feel right to be in a button up at camp.”
I clapped my hands together and walked briskly to the car to retrieve the 2019 Opus One Overture Napa Valley Red from the car. My boss had given it to us as an engagement gift, and you wanted to open it for a special occasion. Colin and I were wine people, but we usually stuck with $25.00 wine from the grocery store or the ones that tasted like juice. So now that Colin and I had gotten a fancy bottle we were itching to break in to see what the hype was about.
I walked back into the house to find Colin had changed into a black short sleeve and his kaki shorts. I hadn’t seen him in such a relaxed outfit in a long time, and it turned me on.
“Pour some wine on meee, in the name of vacaaaa,” Colin’s rendition of pour some sugar on me made me roll my eyes and smile as I poured us both a glass and we ventured outside. I sat on the edge of the dock, dipping my toes into the sun kissed warm water.
“Cheers to another amazing year,” Colin held out his wine and as they clanked together the red liquid danced around the glass.
I took a small sip and scrunched my face up, turning to see that Colin’s expression looked very similar to mine.
“This taste like ass,” He stated, making a fake gagging noise before asking me my thoughts.
“It tastes like a burnt fruit salad,” I giggled and took another sip. “But the bottle is open so I’m not wasting a drop!” Colin huffed and swirled the liquid around in his glass before joking around and plugging his nose while he took another sip.
I nudged him lightly, enjoying seeing the softer side of Colin Zabel tonight. He had been working so hard on such heavy cases that watching him joke and smile was such a joyous sight.
The two of us sipped wine and exchanged sweet banter back and forth as the sun set. Once the last slice of orange cast itself across the lake, I felt Colin’s arm sling itself over my shoulders and his thumb lightly caress my shoulder blade. I leaned over and gently pulled myself close to him.
“I love you, y/n,” Colin whispered through the sounds of the gentle water and buzzing bugs and crickets.
“Oh you do?” I asked devilishly, pulling away and raising an eyebrow at my fiancé. He grabbed my wrist to pull me in and planting kisses all over my face. Then when his lips finally found mine I grabbed his face, to make sure he stayed right where he was. He hummed in delight as I dove my tongue into his mouth. The smell and taste of the lingering wine was both exotic and intoxicating. I felt Colin’s hand slide up the back of my shirt, swiftly unhooking my bra.
I pulled away and smacked his chest as he let out another laugh. He got up quickly from the edge of the dock and before I knew it, he was throwing off his shirt to expose his in need of tan skin. He continued to pull down his shorts, leaving him just in his blue plaid boxers
“Night dip?” Colin called out, his face was so full of happiness that I couldn’t even say no. He didn’t wait for me to respond before plunging off the dock into the water. He emerged and let out a yell, and sucked in a breath as if his body was adjusting to the water temperature.
“You coming?” He playfully splashed at me and shaking my head I finally took the last sip of wine right from the bottle. The alcohol was making  me quite hot and ready for more kisses from Colin.
“You really love me, Colin Zabel?” I asked as I stood on the dock, eyeing my fiancé in the water.
“More than the world,” He responded sweetly as he scanned my face and smiled wide to expose his perfect teeth. I quickly took my shirt off and dropped it to the ground next to my wine glass, and my bra came down with it soon after. Colin’s eyes widened at the sight of me half naked, and he looked as though he was surprised by my actions. I decided then to pull down my shorts and underwear at the same time - revealing nothing but my birthday suit.
“WOW, I’m going to go broke buying all that expensive wine if this is what it does to you!” Colin laughed as I rolled my eyes and before I knew it my naked body was jumping off the dock into the dark water. I emerged to see Colin swimming towards me and his fingers landed on my ass cheeks and squeezed them gently.
“God, how did I get so lucky,” Colin whispered against my ear as we embraced in the water.
“I think we both lucked out on the relationship front,” I giggled and nibbled at his ear. I wanted him so bad, just feeling his relaxed presence made me remember why we came here every year. It was that spot that made us both feel like the only two people left on the planet. The kisses he was giving me were sending shock waves through my body. I gripped him tight as we floated together, and as we drifted closer to the dock, I decided it was time to get us out of the water.
I pulled myself back up onto the wooden dock and watched Colin follow. I laid my naked body down and watched the night sky. The brightness of the stars and the warm outdoor light on the porch was the only thing illuminating our wet bodies. Colin crawled on top of me, planting more kisses to my skin. I felt him shimmy off his wet boxers to expose his hard penis. He pushed down on me and I gently guided him inside of my body.
“God you feel so good,” He breathed in my ear as I moaned in pleasure. He made love to me slow and gentle and the dock moved lightly under us both sending me over the edge faster than I normally would. It had been so long since we’d connected like this, and it was utterly insatiable. He kissed me like he was drowning, and I was his air, and his thrusts were intense yet tender.
This is exactly what the two of us needed.
“I can’t wait to make you my wife,” He growled as he quickened his pace inside of me.
It must have been what I needed because when he grabbed my hips it sent deep vibrations into my body it sent me over the edge.
“Oh my god, Colin!” I gasped as I let my body experience the electric orgasm course through my body. He sent a few more deep thrusts before exploding into his own pleasure. I felt him twitch on top of me before he slowly slid from inside me and laid his body down on the dock.
“Hey, it’s the big dipper,” I called out between heavy breaths.
“Thanks honey, nobody has ever called me that before” Colin joked. It sent me into a fit of laughter as I smacked his arm.
As our laughter died down, I felt Colin’s hand grab mine. “I’d say this activity should be another tradition for us.”
“No, I don’t think we could recreate that every year,” I smirked.
Colin twisted to raise on his side so he was looking down at me. He gave me a quick kiss. “Got it, we’ll file it away as a core memory.”

Girl Next Door Part 6!
HEYYOO IM BACK BITCHES!
Summery: You explain to Kai what you’ve done. He can't understand, and he doesn't really want to.
Warnings: talk of abortion, pregnancy, swearing, and Kai’s beginning stage of inner rage.
I HOPE YOU LIKE IT!
Tumblr media
You knew the choices you made had serious consciences, these choices were not made lightly.
You had moved through a week since you had come clean about your pregnancy. You and Kai were sent into a discussion over what needed to be done. You had never seen Kai so incredibly persistent on what he wanted. He saw a future with you, and he wanted to keep his seed planted and watch it grow. You were completely blind sided by his reaction to be honest. You were fearful he was going to pull away, upset at the thought of fathering a child so young. You didn’t realize that he would grab your face and tell you that there was only one street to follow.
You felt bile creep in your throat, and as much as you wanted to let it out, you swallowed it down in distaste, just like you’d taken in Kai’s extreme moral compass, practically begging you not to have an abortion.
But your mind was already made up the second you saw that test turn up positive. You were not ready for a child to come out of you, or to be welcomed into your arms and suck the life out of you. Not now, and maybe not ever.
You knew that Kai would ultimately understand, he was Kai. He was your best friend and you knew he had your best interest in mind. You had went home that night and made an appointment at planned parenthood for an abortion without Kai’s knowledge. He told you he would give you a week to think about things- but that didn't stop him from constantly texting you asking you how you were feeling or if he could do anything to make things easier for you. God, he was everything a girl dreamed of and you wished your heart didn't want both Kai Anderson and his idealistic family and a college education, experience, and career all for yourself.
You laid in the recovery room, a heating pad on your abdomen to help with the constant cramping you were feeling. The clinic told you that you were not allowed to drive yourself home, and you knew that meant you had to give Kai a call to come get you. You flipped open your phone and pressed his number, you winced as you shifted in the strange shaped chair. You saw another girl across from you, quietly sobbing into her sweatshirt. You wanted to get out of there as soon as possible.
“Hey,” Kai’s voice answered the phone on the first ring. You could already tell by his tone that he was an anxious mess.
“Kai, I need you to pick me up. I’m at planned parenthood on upper east,” You whispered, not wanting to draw attention to yourself.
“Oh, yeah yeah of course.” His voice was soft and it calmed you for a moment. “Is everything okay?”
You closed your eyes and let out a slow breath as another painful cramp surged through you. You were so ready to get home and lay in bed, and you were hopeful that maybe Kai would stay with you and rub your back and tell you that you made the right choice.
“Yeah, I’ll explain when you get here.” You spoke quickly, watching the nurse walking towards you as you hung up the cell phone before Kai could get in another word. She gave you another dose of Advil with water, and you hadn’t realized how dry your mouth had been until you sucked every last drop of the water from the cheap paper cup.
“You’re free to leave when your ride gets here, and don’t be afraid to call if you have extensive bleeding, or don’t feel better in a couple of days.” She gave you a weak smile as she pulled the warm compress from your body. You face scrunched under the knowledge that they were in fact kicking you out of the room in order to make more space.
You slowly lifted yourself from the chair and your head felt like it was reaching the clouds. No wonder they don’t let anyone drive after a procedure. You walked slowly into the waiting room, taking a seat as you looked around the parking lot for any sign of Kai.
The eyes that were landing on you every so often was starting to make you uncomfortable. One younger teen looked like she was about to give birth right there in the chair. She looked uncomfortable- no no miserable. She didn’t have that pregnancy glow and your quick glance revealed swollen ankles and lots of hormonal acne. You felt relief flood into your veins as you saw Kai’s car swing into the parking lot with eagerness. It pulled up right out front and you hugged your jacket as you shuffled out of the building.
Kai’s eyes were wide, watching you make your way into the vehicle. You felt the pad in your underwear shift uncomfortably as you took a seat in his warm car. You hadn’t worn one of these since middle school, and you were so glad someone had created the tampon.
“Thanks for coming to get me,” You smiled softly at your best friend. He returned the smirk and nodded slowly.
“Let’s go to that drive through burger place that you love so much,” You leaned over and rubbed your thumb up and down his veiny hand. He took a deep breath, staring into your eyes with worry.
“Um, Sonic?”
“Yeah that’s the place, I’m really craving the lemonade they have there.” You rested your head against the back seat. You realized your use of the word craving was probably not the best idea since you could already tell Kai’s demeanor was perking up and he smiled widely as he focused on the road and pulled out of the clinic parking lot.
“My baby wants a lemonade, my baby gets a lemonade.”
Your heart skipped, wondering what baby he was talking about- because he now only had one. You knew you’d break the news to him, but you wanted to be parked anywhere but the clinic.
You made your way to Sonic, ordering and sitting in the parking lot awaiting your food to be brought to you. Kai bites his thumbnail, not knowing what to say or do. He was waiting for you to break the silence, you knew that much.
You felt the cramping subside, the Advil clearly working its magic yet again. Kai turn the radio down and his eyes burned into you. You were about to open your mouth when his voice cut through the air.
“You can’t do this to me. You can’t abort this baby, y/n. It’s part of me, and even better - its a part of you. It’s like fate or some shit. Please, I’m begging you. I can’t take any more people being taken away from me.” Kai’s voice broke as he finished. You watched a tear roll down his face and land in his lap. He was fucking crying.
“Kai… I,” You felt your heart speed up, suddenly fearing what you had done was going to rip your relationship completely apart. There was no part of Kai that would be nodding his head and cradling you in understanding.
“Y/n, Let’s run. Go to Vegas and get married. We’ll start up that software company we always talk about- and you can do your comics on the side. Fuck, you could do it full time. I’ll take care of you I promise.” You were stunned at the word vomit coming from Kai’s mouth. You wished that this had happened 7 years from now when you were not about to graduate high school and you and Kai lived together and had steady jobs. You dreamed of a life with Kai, but not when you were young and dumb.
“I’m going to be sick,” You managed to squeak out, you clutched your stomach and hunched forward. Panic corsed through your veins.
“What’s the matter? It is morning sickness from the baby?” Kai leaned forward to put his hand on you and gently rubbing circles on your back.
“NO KAI,” You felt hot tears burning too be released. “Its not from the baby because there is no more baby.” You closed your eyes and felt the salty water drops fall into your lap. Kai’s hand removed his hand from your body, and you glanced over at him. His mouth was hanging open, and his eyebrows came together in a point.
“What do you mean… no more baby?” His words flung out of his mouth like hot venom. Oh, he wasn’t sad- he was viciously angry.
“I wasn’t at the clinic for a check up Kai, I was there having an abortion.” You breathed out, a sense of calm washing over you as you relieved yourself of your secret. The car was silent, except for the quiet sound of Moondance on the radio.
Kai’s eyes turned rather dark as you spoke, and you felt like he was biting his lip hard enough that blood was going to spirt out onto his soft green sweatshirt.
“Why the fuck didn’t you tell me that you were doing that?” He spat between his clenched teeth.
Before you could speak, the young male waiter tapped on the driver side window. Kai’s eyes didn’t leave yours as he rolled down the window.
“Uh, order 430? Here’s your food.” The boy spoke quickly, pushing a tray full of food towards the open window.
Kai’s head slowly turned to meet the tray at his window. He reached his hand out,  batting one of the lemonades off the tray causing it to smash against the pavement. You heard the splash and Kai sucked in a deep breath.
“Did you.. Do you want a refill for that?” The young waiter asked quietly, unsure of the situation at hand. “FUCK OFF!” Kai yelled before rolling the window back up casually. The boy took a moment to assess the scene and decided it was best to just head back into the sonic.
“That was rude, Kai!” You had never seen him behave this way.
“Are you fucking kidding me?” His devilish laughter shot around the car and gripped you like a vice. “ I think getting an abortion and not telling me is fucking rude, y/n.”
You felt the dagger hit your heart, and guilt consumed you.
“You told me to take the week to decide, so I decided.” Your voice surprised you, just the sheer weakness that it carried. You had zero guilt about your decision for yourself, but you felt guilty for having to make a choice that kai didn’t agree with.
“Unbelievable,” He huffed.
“What would you have done if I told you I wanted an abortion? Huh? You would have held my hand through it?” You looked over at Kai, his anger still considerably there, but the hurt was far more visible. His face curled in that look you get right before you break down and cry.
“I had the right to fucking know. I had the right to try and change your mind. This wasn't just your choice to make.”
“You were not the one who had to carry a baby inside of you and then give birth. I’m about to graduate high school.. You clearly don’t fully understand what having a baby would mean for me, Kai!”
“You know, you’re so fucking selfish.” Kai hissed. He watched your eyes widen, and you pulled yourself back as your jaw dropped.
He shook his head slowly, “You always want people to do everything you want them to. You don’t ever sacrifice a god damn thing for anyone. You don’t want me to talk to other girls, yet you refuse to put a label on whatever the fuck we’ve been doing.” He runs a hand down his face. Rage was filling his sad eyes again. “You want me to fall fucking head over heels for you, but then you won’t say you love me back. Then the kicker! You get knocked up, and you know that I want nothing more than to have this baby with you and you go and fucking KILL IT.”
The car is silent again for what felt like a lifetime. Your heart was pounding, realizing his truthful words. Maybe you were selfish, maybe your fears had made you into a raging selfish bitch.
“Kai.. I’m just trying to do what I think is right.”
“AH! Exactly my point. You do what YOU think is right,” He hissed.
You took a deep breath, your head is pounding and you wished that Kai had let you at least have a sip of that lemonade.
How would they ever come back from this? You hadn’t just lost the man you had grown to love, but the best friend you had ever had. You had taken something so valuable away from him, and he was punishing you for it.
“Do you love me?” Kai’s words burned into your skull, and you nodded quickly.
“Yes, yes I do.” You whispered. He bit his lip again and shook his head.
“No you don’t, you won’t even say it- That’s where we’re so different. I’m not afraid of you, of us.”
You took in a shaky breath, making sure that you locked eyes with Kai as you overcame the fear of the three words you felt since the moment you met him.
“I LOVE YOU, KAI. Okay. I FUCKING LOVE YOU. Is saying that going to fix our relationship?”
He studied your face for a moment-like he was memorizing something he was never going to see again.
“No, you killed that too.”

Girl Next Door Part 5
Summery: ‘I love you’ and ‘I’m sorry’. Something good happens before something bad.
Tumblr media
Sitting at your desk inside your small bedroom, you stared at your old MacBook. The college essay prompt was written in bold letters on the top of your document.
‘Discuss an event that sparked a period of personal grown and a new understanding of yourself and others.’
Before today you had been stumped, having complete writers block when it came to this important paper. You felt a tear roll down your cheek as your fingers started typing feverishly over the keyboard. The words effortlessly coming out of you in your emotional state. After the events that had happen in the last few weeks, you knew just what you had to write about.
Exactly two weeks ago you had been sitting in that same seat, staring at the snow falling from the sky out your bedroom window. You couldn’t find any motivation to write this paper. You were a small town girl living in the suburbs, with zero crime and white picket fences. You had good grades, a great family life, and you were not some leper in society. You fit in well with most, especially with your neighbor Kai, who you had been hooking up with for the last 7 months.
It was hard to believe it had been that long since you shared your first intimate moment together. You guys didn’t talk much about your relationship status, hell you didn’t speak of it at all. You were best fucking friends, and both you and Kai didn’t want to discuss what your new level of friendship was doing to your old one.
Your thoughts were pulled from you as your phone rang beside you.
It was Kai, so you decided to answer. “What’s up?”
“Can I come over? I just really need to get out of this house,” You could hear it in his voice that his parents were arguing. Winter was always at her girlfriends, and Vincent hadn’t been living there for years, so you knew it was just Kai home with the two of them as they were at each others throats.
“Yeah of course, I’m just finishing up my essay.” You lied. Kai thanked you before hanging up the phone. You frowned as you looked to your empty document on your computer screen. Sighing, you shut the laptop and got up from your seat at your desk. You sulked down the  stairs moments before Kai’s hand banged on your front door.
He looked tired and worn out as you invited him inside. Your parents had taken a mini vacation for themselves for the 26th anniversary so you had the house to yourself all week. You hoped someday you’d still be in love with your husband 26 years in, just as your parents were.
He rubbed the fallen snow out of his brown shaggy hair. “Hey, thanks for letting me come over. I hope I’m not interrupting anything?” You looked down at your appearance and suddenly felt a wash of embarrassment wash over you as you looked down at your yoga pants and Baggy sweatshirt with a guacamole stain from your afternoon snack lingering on the chest.
“No god Kai, you know you’re always welcome over.. Especially when your parents get like that.” You smiled lightly at him, nodding at him to follow you up the stairs.
You got to your bedroom door and entered the mess of your headquarters. Your room was a vibrant coral color, but the artwork on your walls were of dark comic book covers and thriller movies. The vast difference in the interior design of your room always gave kai a warm feeling in his heart.
Kai plopped down on your unmade bed, his back falling back as he stared at the ceiling which was scattered with stick on glow in the dark stars from your childhood.
“You know, sometimes I wish they would just fucking give up already.” Kai closed his eyes for a moment, fighting back the emotions pulling at him from the inside. “They’re just going through shit after your dads’ accident. It can’t be easy for either of them, or for you.”
You took a sip from your iced coffee that had been sitting so long in your quest to break your writers block that the ice was already melted.
“Its been years y/n, this isn’t going to get better. It's just gotten worse over the last year, and I feel like I can’t leave home. I can’t leave her with him.” He sat back up, his eyes were glassy. You knew he was talking about his mother. She was the brunt of all his father’s PTSD.
You had overhead your mom talking with your dad about how Kai’s mother had been showing up with bruises on her arms lately and that she was worried about what was going on in the Anderson home. You knew that Kai’s dad was a dick, but you really didn’t know how bad until you had found out he was leaving marks on wife.
Casting your eyes away from him, you fidgeted in your seat, “I’m sorry, I wish I could make things easier for you.”
“You do. Seriously you’re the only good thing in my life,” his words made your head shoot up and your eyes locked into his. He was smiling sheepishly, and you wondered how you had gotten so lucky as to have him.
“You don’t mean that,” Your voice came out as a quiet whisper. You felt your chest tighten at the words he had spoken to you. He had always been sweet but something in his words felt different today, like they were heavier than normal.
“Y/n, I know things with us are unusual and we’ve never really talked about what we are. I just want you to know that I love you. I love you as a friend and I love you as something more. I always will.”
It had been two days since Kai had confessed his love to you, and you froze and all you could do was kiss him in fear he was going to expect a reply. You didn’t want to complicate things more, and you really were starting to worry what was going to happen when you went off to college…if you went off to college.
You had other things to worry about today of all days because even though two days ago Kai told you he loved you, it had been two weeks since your missed period.
You stood in the bathroom of your home with a pregnancy test in a cup of your own piss. You paced the bathroom, biting your thumb nail and going through all the other options of why you could have missed your period. I mean there was stress, that was a big one. You had been under so much stress since applying for colleges, the essays lay dormant in your document drafts.
“Im so fucking stupid,” You whispered to yourself as you leaned over the sink, staring at yourself in the mirror. Your hair was slung in a messy bun and the mascara smudged on your eyelids from the tears that fell from your eyes.
You pulled out your phone, realizing that it had been 10 minutes since you had stuck the test in your urine. It was clearly enough time to give an accurate result.
You slowly made it over to the back of the toilet, your eyes smashing shut as you picked up the stick. You prayed, prayed to a god you hardly believed in, but you told him that if he cared at all about you that he would let you off the hook just this once. Please dear god, don’t let me be-
PREGNANT
The words om the little electronic test were clear as day, and you dropped the stick with a shaky hand and covered your mouth. The tears escaping and cascading down your face.
How did this happen? How would you explain any of this to Kai.
Kai. Oh my god, Kai.
You were supposed to go over his house for a movie night tonight, but you couldn’t even fathom how you were supposed to break this news to him.
You picked up the test off the ground, the words pregnant still permanently written on the clear blue test in your hand. You chucked it hard at the wall, the test clanging against the tile of your bathroom. ‘FUCK!,” You angrily yelled out. You stared at the stupid stick that lay flat on the floor. Your hands were sweaty and your throat felt like it did when you were 5 and found out you had an allergy to shellfish.
You grabbed your phone off the sink and pulled up Kai’s number, texting him a quick message that you were headed over.
Entering the Anderson household you rushed right to the basement, walking by Winter and her parents at the kitchen table. They awkwardly looked between themselves at the odd actions of their neighbor. It wasn’t unusual that you walked into their house without knocking, but you usually said a quick hello. Tonight you were on a mission.
Kai sat on the couch, his laptop on his lap when you rushed down the stairs. Kai’s eyes grew wide as you walked down the stairs quickly, letting tears flow freely from your eyes,“woah woah, what’s the matter?”
He shoved the laptop off of him and walked briskly to meet you in the middle of the room, grabbing you in a secure hug. He rubbed your back as you cried into his chest.
“Are your parents okay, what’s happening?” He pulled your shoulders away from him, concern wrecked his face as he watched you shake your head.
“My parents are drinking fucking mojitos on the beach right now,” You sniffled, gaining some composure and looking at Kai for the first time since you barged into the basement.
He looked terrified, but you knew he would look even more terrified when you told him why you were upset in the first place.
“Okay good, that’s a start. What’s going on then?” He questioned you, but all you could focus on was the sweet tenderness of his warm hands moving up and down your arms to comfort you. You wanted to soak every inch of him in before you ruined your relationship forever.
“I need to sit down, I need to sit,” Kai moved you slowly over to the couch and you plopped down on the old sofa that harbored so many memories. It was probably where you got yourself into this mess anyway. The thought made your skin grow goosebumps.
“You’re freaking me out, y/n. What’s going on?” Kai’s eyes were wide, and he looked you over for a sign of an injury. Everything in you wanted to just cling to him and feel his body close to yours. If only you could close your eyes hard enough that when you opened them you’d be awake from this terrible nightmare.
“I feel like I can’t breathe.” Nobody told you what an anxiety attack felt like, but you were pretty sure that you were experiencing one.
“Okay listen to me, whatever is going on I’ll help you, just talk to me.”
You shook your head, feeling the heaviness overtaking your chest and you continued to cry. Kai ran his hands through his hair before pulling you to his chest and gently shh-ing you until he felt your body let go of the tenseness.
Moments passed until you felt strong enough to leave the comfort of his hold on you. Kai’s eyes searched you more for answers, and you couldn’t stop repeating yourself. “I’m sorry Kai, Im so sorry.”
“Woah chill, y/n. What is fucking happening here?” He was drained of color seeing you this way, and you just had to rip the band aid off.
“I’m pregnant, Kai.”

Girl Next Door Part 4
Summery: Kai takes you home, and the next day you wake up to a surprise visitor and a surprising and very welcomed interaction.
Warnings: Mention of alcohol, Sex, Smut with Pre-Cult Kai babyyyy!
Tumblr media
“Have a good time, huh? You and my sister are completely wasted.” His voice cut through the air and you felt like maybe he was blaming you for Winter’s intoxication.
“I didn’t shove the alcohol down her throat KAI!” You threw your hands up into the air as you turned to walk home.
“That’s the wrong way home, genius” Kai called after you.
You stopped walking and drunkenly took in your surroundings. FUCK. Maybe you were more wasted than you originally thought.
“Why do you always try and saveee me?” Twirling around to face him, a hiccup coming out as you approached where he stood on the sidewalk.
“Because I care, now let’s go.” He shoved his hands in his sweatshirt pocket and started to walk in the direction of your homes. You followed him, trying to keep up with his brisk pace.
“I can’t do this anymore.” You realized you had just mumbled under your breath instead of leaving it in your head.
“What are you talking about?” Kai looked over at you as you finally caught up with his stride.
“I just can’t stand that I’m constantly trying to make you happy!”
“What the fuck? I was just at a party I didn’t want to go and STAYED just to make YOU happy!”
“Well you ruined the whole night for me Kai, because you..” You stopped, wondering momentarily if you should even mention the blonde chick.
“I what?” Kai’s voice sounded rougher than his usual relaxed tone.
“You just had to flirt with that girl in the basement.”
Kai let out a small laugh, his head shaking back and forth. “You have no idea what was happening there.”
“Oh yeah? Well her body was pretty close to yours and whatever you were saying made her laugh like a fucking Hyena.”
Kai stopped walking, his eyes on you. “Why does it even matter, you let Seth do  a body shot off you if we are going tit for tat here.”
“Yeah well that’s because I was being stupid.” You admitted.
“You think? You’ve never been like this at a party before.”
The scoff came out of your mouth faster than you realized. “That’s because I’m usually glued to your side listening to you pick apart every fun thing about it!”
“Here we go again. Well, if you think I suck the fun out of everything in your life then why am I even walking your ass home right now?” His voice was full of frustration.
“Kai, I don’t care what we are doing, I just want to do it together. You’re not boring and you’re not sucking the fun out of anything. I’m just..I was just..”
“You know that girl was Laney Collins, she’s Justin Roberts’ girlfriend and she asked if I could help her make him jealous.” Kai’s angry expression dropped and he shoved his hands further into his pockets, slightly embarrassed. “She kept asking if you’d be upset if you caught us talking, because apparently everyone thinks we’re together.”
The feeling of guilt coursed through you at the thought of how much you had overreacted, and how jealous you had been. You also felt so much relief that Laney Collins was just a stupid bitch.
“Yeah Seth also thought we were together,” You spoke quietly, the wind picked up and you realized that you were starting to get cold without a jacket. The alcohol had been warming you up.
You watched as Kai scratched the back of his neck, not knowing what to say next. Your heart leaped out of your chest, knowing that he was still your Kai, the one who had been your best friend for years and knew everything about you and who wasn’t taken by any other girl.
You decided it was now or never, and you grabbed Kai’s face and smashed your lips onto his. Kai’s lips melted into yours for a moment, your tongue gliding into his mouth and then when you finally felt his body press up against yours, he pulled away just as quick as you had pulled him in.
“Y/n, you drank a lot tonight. I don’t want you to do something you’ll regret tomorrow,” Your heart literally hit the ground, and you swallowed your sadness as it bubbled in your throat.
“Yeah Kai, I get it.” You slowly turned away from him and wrapped your arms around yourself and you both continued to walk home in silence.
Your headache woke you up the next morning, pounding from behind your eyes. You groaned as your body ached with dehydration and the familiar feeling of dread that you had fallen asleep to.
You had managed to sneak quietly into your home and up the stairs to your room as your parents watched tv waiting up for you.
You reached over to grab your phone on the nightstand, wondering if you had gotten any news from Winter on her well being.. but given that you had kissed your best friend last night and he pushed you away- the blank screen was no surprise to you. However, it stung like a bitch. Your eyes burned as they adjusted to the light, and the dryness in your throat was pleading with you to go downstairs and face the day with an ice cold very large glass of water, maybe a side of ibuprofen as a pre breakfast snack.
You slowly removed the covers from your body, noticing that you had just taken off your pants last night- your shirt clung to your navel where the sticky body shot had been. Was getting out of bed even worth it after the night you had? Honestly the thought of just curling up in a ball and forgetting the world around you crumbling down was sounding very appealing.
“Y/N? KAI IS HERE FOR YOU!” Your mothers sweet voice rang out from outside your door. You flung your body out of bed, the dots from standing up too fast zipping across your line of vision.
“Shit shit shit,” You mumbled, looking around your closet for something to wear. You didn’t even want to look in the mirror. Yikes, it wasn’t going to be pretty.
“GIVE ME A SECOND AND I’LL COME RIGHT OUT,” You yelled back, pulling on a cute white sweater and a pair of ripped baggy jeans that hugged your ass perfectly. You grabbed the travel sized toothbrush and toothpaste from your backpack, dry brushing in panic mode. You grabbed your chapstick off your nightstand, and that’s when the alarm clock took your breath away, it was already 1115. You had slept all morning, no wonder Kai was checking up on you.
You exited the bedroom, smoothing your dry lips with your chapstick before plopping it in your back pocket and flinging your hair into a messy bun  as you walked down the stairs to the kitchen, in which you had found your mother and Kai.
“She exits the cave!” Your mom laughed, handing you a glass of water like she knew how teenagers were and how much you needed that water. She was always cool like that, especially since she was a party animal in her days and she had always said that you were lucky to have a good guy friend like Kai to protect you. Little did she know that you felt much more for Kai than as a protective friend. “ Now that I know you’re alive I’m running to the grocery store. Your dad is at the Garage today so if you need me I’ll have my cell on.” She smiled between Kai and I before walking towards the front door. You felt the anxious hives burning your chest as your glance made your way to Kai now that you two were alone.
“I ah, wanted to see if you were down to take a drive with me to that new smoothie place downtown?” Kai shifted in his seat at your kitchen island. He had on that green plaid shirt that you could literally drool over. You remembered making him buy it when you had gone school shopping together. Your lust over him was suddenly halted by the flash back of him gently pushing you from his lips last night and the thought of having to hangout with him today out of pity really chapped your ass.
“Nah, I have a lot of studying to do for a math test Monday,” You finished off the glass of water and placed it in the sink, now standing across from Kai who was looking at you with concern in his eyes. “You know they have this smoothie there that’s supposed to cure even the worst of hangovers,” He smirked, the dimples in his cheek making your heart break further.
“No, I’m not hungover Kai.” You tried your hardest to sound believable, but you knew that your appearance said otherwise.
“Look, I know you’re upset about last night.” His voice was low like he was trying to hide a dirty little secret. Your eyebrows pushed together, shaking your head fast. You needed him to know that whatever had happened wasn’t a big deal and you hoped he would never speak of it again.
You watched Kai get up from the chair he was in and made his way over to you, pulling out something from his back pocket. It was a crumpled piece of paper, and he handed it to you. It was a fortune from a fortune cookie. You shot him a questioning glance before he urged you to open it up.
“Sun always shines after a downpour.”
You read it 3 times, wondering what the hell he was giving you this for. “What are you getting at?” You handed back the piece of paper to Kai, but he pushed it back towards you.
“You know, I was in a really bad place after my dad got into his motorcycle accident. You know how he is. But he wasn’t always this much of a dick,” Kai took a breath, looking down at his shoes before burning his brown eyes into yours. “I had a really hard time dealing with his behavior, our new normal, and just dealing with life in general. But then I met you.” He smiled lightly, and you could tell he was blushing at the words he was speaking. Your breath hitched in your throat as he continued. “Remember the time we stayed up late playing Minecraft and ordered from that Chinese place-Chow something,” He chuckled at the memory. “Well, I got that in my fortune cookie that day. I had to keep it because being with you in that moment and getting that fortune - man, I just knew. You coming into my life was like the sun shining after such a bad storm in my life.”
You let out a shaken breath, a feeling of sweetness washing over you at Kai’s confession. You had no idea he had thought of you that way. It made you feel things you didn’t even recognize before.
“Kai, I’m sorry if I almost ruined our friendship last night. I-”
Your words were cut off by Kai placing a finger to your lips, his other hand snaking around your neck intimately.
“I wanted to kiss you, just not like that. Not with me knowing you had been drinking.” His voice was a whisper, and your face being so close to him and his touch on your neck was making your knees weak.
“So are you saying I should try it again?” You asked in a flirtatious tone.
“I’m saying it's my turn to show you exactly how I feel, ” Kai said smoothly before he slowly bent down. planting his soft pink lips onto yours. You inhaled hungrily, and wrapped your hands around him slowly.
You felt a hand grab your waist, his other still touching your bare neck to keep your face close to his as your mouths explored new territory. The way he felt tightly pressed against you was both familiar and warm, like you were meant to end up in each other’s arms the second you had met him in the kitchen of his childhood home, connecting through your love of comics.
You continued to kiss hungrily, before you gently pulled back momentarily to let him know you were still in your kitchen. He smiled down at you as your sweetness turned devilish as you wiggled your eyebrows.
“I woke up this morning with a desire to stay in bed all day. Care to join?,” You giggled as he grabbed your waist, picking you up and hoisting you over his shoulder as he’s done many times in your friendship- except this time it felt different… a good kind of different.
He placed you down as soon as you hit the top step, and you both made it to the bedroom while your lips remain linked and hands exploring the roadmap of each others bodies. He was feverishly trying to unbutton your jeans without success. You playfully swatted at his hand, doing it yourself with ease and letting him glide them past your hips and they hit the floor to expose your underwear. He gently pulled those down as well, savoring each second of memorizing your naked figure that he had dreamed of for so long. You swiftly pulled off your sweater and threw it towards the other end of the room. Kai reached around you, unhooking your bra and letting your perky youthful breasts bounce out. He admired you as he slid off his clothes as well, and you both fell onto the bed, engulfed in your own world of happiness and satisfaction.
“You are so fucking beautiful,” Kai whispered as he rolled on top of you, his bed head even more prominent from your hands running through it as you made out.
“Do you know how long Ive been waiting to hear you say that?” You grinned against his lips as he smashed them back down onto yours. You could feel the wetness between your legs, ready for Kai’s dick to enter you. He slowly guided himself into you, and with the first thrust you couldn’t help but moan and throw your head back, indulging in what you had craved for so long. Kai pumped slow and hard while he made sure to stare at you and soaking in the pleasure of your body as it prepared for climax.
“You feel so good inside me,” You breathed out, feeling the familiar feeling of your orgasm starting to burn inside you.
“Fuck babe, I’m going to cum,” Kai’s voice sounded strained as he started pumping his dick deeper and faster. You didn’t even realize or care that he didn’t have a condom on, as he released himself inside of you as your raspy vocalization clearly indicated your orgasm rose to completion.
Kai slid next to you, out of breath and woozy. He glanced over at you, enjoying the view of your naked breasts raising and falling with your chest as you too caught your breath.
Your eyes met Kai’s and you felt a sudden electricity between you, and he reached over and grabbed your hand before breaking the silence.
“You want to go get that smoothie now?”
