VICTORY AT PAGLTH’AN!

There are too many damn good screenshots to include from yesterday’s Battle of Paglth’an! Here is a personal favourite, which shows Lunar Bahamut dropping into Zolm’ak Citadel as a cameo to incinerate a force of Alliance troops before moving on elsewhere.

Huge shout-out to the 30+ players who attended and made the event a great comeback for the 4th! It’s the first time hosting these MSQ events in over 2 years.

There will be more to come in the run-up to Endwalker, using what we learned in managing a large group of RPers to formalize our GM systems. I’m honestly surprised it went as well as it did as a first foray for a new group!

Headcanon: How to Curse Like An Ishgardian

Ishgard is a region steeped in its orthodoxy, which draws several similarities to Catholicism. Catholics have a very interesting relationship with profanity, which made me wonder what form Ishgardian cursing might take. Below are some thoughts ranging from the most mild to the kind that might get you Witchdropped, as well as their inspirations. 1) Ejaculations (Irish) An “ejaculation” is a prayer or part of a prayer uttered for strength in a trying time or as an expression of exasperation. A well known Irish ejaculation is “Jesus who for the love of me,” for example. Here are a few that I came up with: “Blessed Fury, full of grace,” “Merciful Halone, I beseech thee”  “By Her Spear are we saved” ”Of the Fury’s love all men will receive” Or, if you’re particularly angry at someone but still in polite company: “May the Fury’s judgement be upon you” 2) Swears (Dark Age Europe) The Third Commandment says not to take the Lord’s name in vain, but swearing an oath by Him is not taking it in vain if you mean to follow through! As such, “swearing” in the classical sense is likely a very strong yet very tame way to get your anger across in Ishgard, depending on how you do it. Examples: “Be it Halone’s will, I shall overcome this trial!” “By Fury’s spear, I will punch you in the face if you don’t shove off.” “I will visit Saint Reinette’s vengeance upon you!” 3) Holy Host (Medieval England) Curses like “God’s Thumbs!” or “Blood of Christ!” were some of the worst things you could say in the medieval period. Since Ishgard is a blur of time periods, these will likely cause scandal if you say them during a noble’s function or at least get you a whipping from your mom. Examples: “Fury’s Eyes!” “Halone’s Hand!” You can intensify these with descriptors and using more lurid phrases: “Fury’s Frozen Garters!” - A favorite of Yves’ 4) Sacres (Quebec)

And finally, when you absolutely must choose violence, we have the grand daddy of all Ishgardian swears: sacres. These require a bit of explanation for our non Quebecois.  Sacres are a unique style of profanity from Quebec. Essentially, it’s just a string of religious words, like “sacrament” or “tabernacle” or “host” strung together in a big ball of rage. The entire phrase rarely translates directly to anything (there are some idioms that do, but I won’t cover them here)  This is the profanity you break out when you want to nuke someone into the ground with blasphemy. Given Ishgardian society, you probably WILL go to the dungeons if a guard hears you say these and be charged with a crime. As they come from a dialect of French, I find that these would be most fun used in “Old Elezen,” which the game and community both seem to agree is a style of French. Common Quebecois sacres that I think would also work in Ishgard are: tabarnak: tabernacle calise: chalice estie: host maudit: damned sacremant: sacrament ciboire: pyx  saint: Saint (or holy if combined with others, such as saint-sacremant)

Some additional Ishgardian flavored ones:

Enchie : short for Enchiridion lancetoile : (from lance etoile, or “spear star”, relating to the constellation of the Spear) paradeglace: (from paradis de glace, or Heaven of Ice) chapelet: rosary To use the sacres, you simply chain words together with “de” between them. Again, this doesn’t need to make sense: the intensity of the phrase is in how -much- you use. So, if you really want to meet Halone, you might shout at someone: “Saint-chapelet de calise de saint-ciboire d’Enchie!” Which is equivalent to rabidly foaming at the mouth in anger. Anyway, I hope my fellow Ishgardians enjoyed this! Feel free to reblog and add on whatever cool thoughts you may have!

No, that isn’t going to work.

I’m sorry, I don’t really know how to pray. There aren’t any books on it that I’ve found. It’s just a thing people seem to know how to do, like breathing or knowing when colors match. Even the priests I’ve spoken to - your priests and others - they don’t give me any clear instructions. Should I just… know how? Is that something I’m supposed to..?

All I know to do is think at you. Think vaguely… Upwards. I hope that’s enough to reach you.

Right. So. Anyways.

I suppose I’m not the sort of daughter any father would be proud of, divine or otherwise. Zula said my father would be proud of me, and maybe he would be proud of some parts, but Zula doesn’t know half of what I’ve done with my life, maybe he’d think otherwise if he did.

I’ve lied. I’ve stolen. I’ve cheated. I hope You don’t judge me too harshly for the times it’s saved my life, but I know there are just as many times where it hasn’t been life-or-death and I’ve just… Done it because I wanted to. I don’t know why. You’re a god, maybe You have some sort of… of Divine Understanding for this sort of thing. Maybe You can see into my heart in a way that even I can’t, and tell for sure if I’m sinful or broken or blameless or… something. I’m not sure if that’s comforting or not. I’m not sure if I want You to know that.

In the event that You can see into my heart of hearts and everything’s twisted up and horrid and I’m just a terrible person by nature, I hope You’ll still listen to this. You’re called “the Father,” after all, and a parent - a good parent, a real parent - they’re supposed to love their child no matter what they do, right? I suppose I wouldn’t know for certain, really. I’ve had two mothers and two fathers by now; one died when I was three and the others let me down in other ways. I don’t even know what a ‘good’ parent looks like, really. Not close-up.

Still, I guess I have to believe You’re a good father. People wouldn’t worship You if You weren’t.

I’m trying so, so hard. You can see that, right? I’m trying to be good, to be useful, to - to deserve all the chances I’ve gotten. I know I’ve no right to be as lucky as I have been. I should have starved in that alleyway, or broken my neck when I fell off the roof, or taken a knife to the gut or been blown to bits by a Garlean cannonball or…

I feel like I’m supposed to be dead. Several times over. But instead I’m - not.

If I was supposed to be dead, it would have happened, right? The night Yusa died. I felt it. I watched the sky fall down around me and I knew I was going to die. I knew it was all over. And then it wasn’t. And I wasn’t - all alone, anymore. I had one person - being? I don’t know what to call Her, really. I have people, now. People love me. People who are alive love me. Don’t take that away, please. I don’t know if that’s in Your power, if You’re anything like the Traders in that regard, but please, please don’t -

Dalmasca Locations;

Dalmasca Superior;

A sandy desert which was once home to the Kingdom of Dalmasca before it was conquered by the Garlean Empire.

Royal City of Rabanastre: The former capital of Dalmasca, now abandoned by its citizens following several failed revolts. In its heyday it was known as the “Desert Sapphire”.

The Estersand and Westersand: The desert that sprawls around the Royal City of Rabanastre, so large it must be divided into two.

Nalbina Fortress: A fortress that was reputed impregnable until its fall to the IVth Legion. This event was considered the turning point of the war between Garlemald and Dalmasca.

Valnard Sea: Situated south of Rabanastre, the Ridorana Cataract and Lighthouse are situated there.

Skatay Range: A snowy mountain range on the northern border that divides Dalmasca from the rest of Othard. Its forests are home to the Veena Viera.

Dalmasca Inferior;

A more fertile region east of the Dalmascan deserts, which now serves as the center of Garlean rule in South Othard.

Lea Monde: The new capital of Dalmasca under Garlean occupation.

Golmore Jungle: A large forest, home to the Rava Viera, that lies south-west of Nagxia and south-east of Dalmasca.

Zeirchele River: A river separating South Othard in two through the Golmore Jungle. The Orbonne Monastery lies along its banks.

Greylic’s Bend: The southernmost point of Othard, a Cape that any traveler who desires to attain the Far East must cross.

Valnain: A major commercial port situated on Greylic’s Bend, south of Golmore’s Jungle. Currently the center of operations for the IVth Legion.
