“When I write, I kind of see a video of the song [Turnin’ Me On] in my head, and of course I was picturing Gwen. Specifically, a few of her videos — like ‘Underneath It All’ and ‘Sweet Escape,’ where she’s so sexy. These videos that she has done, it’s breathtaking.”

“She’s still in my phone, literally, if you look at my phone it says ‘My girlfriend.’ That’s what her contact is, she’s still my girlfriend to me. We’ve been together for seven years but it still seems like it’s pretty new to me, like the nervous phase is still there.”

“I’ve been in this business for 21 years now, and I’ve met some pretty cool people, famous people and then when I started on The Voice, I met some really exciting, super famous people, but I got to tell you I’ve never seen people react to another human being the way they do to Gwen Stefani. When Gwen and I met on The Voice, she seemed to be completely shocked that the women who sang for her were completely star-struck when she turned around, but for me, it was a no-brainer.”
New York Women in Communications’ Matrix Awards, October 2022
“My favorite thing is just sometimes I forget that she’s Gwen Stefani. This morning like thirty minutes ago, I had to take a COVID test here at the house and the girl came to the door. I walked to the door, and Gwen was talking to me about something, and the girl gave me the test. And right when she was walking away, she goes, ‘By the way, thank you for letting me see her!’ I go, ‘What, uh, what are you talking about?’ And she goes: ‘I just, uh, you know, when you came to the door, like, I got to see her and thank you for, you know.’ And I go, ‘You’re welcome [LAUGHS] no problem.’ She has that effect.”
The Nashville Show, May 2021
“We went to a little grocery store down the street from where we live the other day, and we were standing there, and this girl walks up to Gwen, like, straight past me. This girl, I was laughing to myself, because she couldn’t – It was impossible for her to define what Gwen meant to her and the impact Gwen has had on her life.”

“I’ve never seen him happier. I think he could quit the entire business right now and live with her in Oklahoma and be completely content. He’s really happy with her. It’s cool to see. He used to talk to me all the time, now he hardly ever [laughter]… [He goes], ‘Oh, I’m with the kids, man.’”

“Each kid has something different to teach. I think they’ve taught me something about myself that I never knew was there: I’m more than just a country singer or a goofy guy. I’m someone they actually lean on, and that’s not a responsibility that I ever had and not something that I ever considered even being into. It’s a different kind of self-worth. Maybe it’s the opposite of self-worth because you put yourself way down on the rung, and they move up ahead of you. I guess that’s what they taught me.”

“[Being away from home] is terrible. Right now, they’re having bad storms back in California, and I hate not being there. Not that anything bad is happening, but I know they’re kind of freaked out, and it’d be nice to be home.” “I don’t do a lot of [shows]. I think we’re doing 18 of these shows this year. I try to limit it as much as I can, because the whole reason I’m even stepping away from The Voice is so I can just be there more, and that’s what I’m gonna do.”

“He was so supportive. You know, when we were on stage, and she would come out and do her thing, he was right there with her. And I think there’s nothing sexier than a man who supports his woman. They were amazing. She was like a little kid. It was really cute. One night we had a party in her room and she was on her cell phone the whole time like, ‘My baby’s coming, my baby’s coming.’ And then when he came in, she literally let out like, ‘Eeek!’”

“We think the same about things, yet we’re so different. Like, he’s watching football and doing his stuff that he does, and I’m putting makeup on. We’re so different, yet we’re so the same on so many levels.”
Gwen, The Drew Barrymore Show, November 2022
“It’s definitely two different cultures. But there are many similarities, in things that we love and our morals. But it’s really fun when you can learn about so many new things and share those differences.”
Gwen, Glamour, November 2016
“It’s been so fun this late in my life to be introduced to a whole new genre of music and artists and to have someone that has so much knowledge about it. He’s literally at the top of his game. He is the king.”
Gwen, Etalk, February 2021
“One of the many musical moments you have introduced me to over the years – ‘Oi To The World’. The first time I ever saw this, I thought, ‘Oh, wow, they misprinted the title of the song, they left out the ‘J’. What the heck.’ It’s so fun, though.”

“I started trying to write a song because that’s kind of the opposite of what she would have expected me to do. I’m to the point where I just don’t write that many songs anymore. So, I started writing this song, and I can only get so far with it, because I didn’t want it to just be something for that moment. I wanted it to be something that was bigger, and I saw I needed help. So, I called Craig Wiseman. I said, ‘Craig, you got to help me with this thing. Like, I’m not joking around here.’”
“He really helped me, because when it comes to structuring something that I feel like can stand the test of time, that’s what Craig is great at. And I wanted it to be something like that, and so he really helped me get something I feel like I wouldn’t be embarrassed about. I wanted something broad, but also specific to Gwen. And so that’s what I did. She didn’t know I was going to do that. I surprised her with the song.”
“I’m proud to be married to Gwen and so I’m proud of that song.”
Storme Warren, July 2021
“For me, writing songs is like going to the dentist sometimes. So the fact that I did that, I think it was a complete shock to her. [Craig Wiseman] was coming up with some of the most important stuff. It was unbelievable for me to hear. He’s so good and halfway through writing the song, I knew everything happened exactly how it was meant to happen. It’s just like, ‘Wow, we did it. I have a song about my wife.’ It’s so exciting to me.”

“Having kids, it truly does make you go, ‘Oh whoa. Wait a minute. This isn’t about me anymore and never will be again.’ If you don’t say that to yourself, I think you’re only hurting yourself because you’re going to miss out and you’ll regret it. I’ve accomplished more than anything I could ever imagine, made plenty of money, but you can’t buy time back. That’s what I want to invest in now. And for now, that’s our kids. Even though I’m a stepparent, I still take that job very seriously. And the kids don’t see me as anything other than just a very important person in their life. [When they ask,] 'Why isn’t Blake here?’ I take that stuff to heart.“

“Well, nothing’s official to me unless Gwen is a part of it. Wouldn’t have felt right, in fact, I probably would have made sure and searched around and found a day, if she couldn’t have been here today, to be sure we did it on a day where she could at least be here and be with me, because things just aren’t fun unless she’s a part of it.”

“This year, I married my best friend, Blake Shelton. He wrote a song for me when we got married, ‘We Can Reach the Stars.’”
Spotify, December 2021
“I know I write songs all the time and stuff like that, but I just felt like I don’t know how to do that [write vows] for Blake. It just felt so hard. I procrastinated until the last day, and even like two weeks before I had said to Blake, ‘I think maybe we should just do the repeat after me. It’s fine. Let’s just do that.' And he’s like, ‘I already did mine.’ And I’m like, ‘There’s no way that you sat down and wrote that already.'”
“Cut to the wedding and I finally got mine together. They turned out amazing. I was like, ‘Yes, I nailed it.’ And I went first and so everyone’s crying, I’m crying. We’re bawling. And Blake looks at me, and Carson goes, ‘Well, try to top that one.’ And Blake goes, ‘Well, you’re always at me. I don’t write enough music and so I wrote you a song.’ And he pulls out a stool and a guitar and starts singing this song. and I’m like, ‘bawww.’ I had to literally do my makeup over before we did photos.”
