A decade ago, off-site SEO has been all about links. But it’s expected for search to progress, given that there’s a continuous evolution in web usage – which also has an effect on web marketing best practices.
“Social signals” is another trust and popularity indicator that search engines can use by obtaining available data from known social media networks/websites.
User behaviors, in terms of web usage, have been more exposed in social platforms, which is why this ranking factor has been somehow more relevant in determining popular content, personalities and brands.
Although it’s not applicable to every industry, and not really a factor that Google will most likely focus on, it’s still a signal worth pursuing (diversified traffic sources is always good).

SEO's & Ranking Their Own Site
Do you think it's important for an SEO to rank for their own website? That's an interesting question because you can really look at it a number of ways.
If anyone should be able to rank their website in Google, it should be an SEO...right? Not true. If there were 100 really good SEO companies in Canada, that means that the first 10 pages of a Google search could be filled with these SEO websites. Not everyone can be first, and if every SEO has that goal, it's going to be tough. If you're a client though, think about this. If you sell "central vacuum cleaners" and you hire an SEO to help, they can likely increase your rankings dramatically. The reason; not EVERY vacuum store is worried about SEO, but in our case, nearly EVERY SEO is concerned about SEO for their own site. The competition is fierce!
My company, Blake Strategies Group would love to rank for terms like Toronto SEO company or SEO in general, but I don't get too worried if I'm not number one because the time it would take to get to number one, is time I'm taking away from other activities like working for my clients!
