there had been a time when she would've loved to hear that from ferdinand. the idea of him admitting that he didn't know what he was doing, when he had spent so long telling her that he knew better than her... it was something edelgard hadn't expected to ever happen.

and, if she was honest, she didn't know if it felt good to hear it happen.

"  and really, wasn’t that what the emperor was doing herself? trying to figure out the answers to her life, replacing the ones that had been completely dismissed when she had lost her family.

11.  justice  :  does your muse find it easy to be impartial in emotional situations ?

now this is something that edel knows that she has to work on. normally? yes, she can be generally impartial, although she will always place her house/empire over the other houses/kingdom/alliance. but when her emotions are involved, it gets far more difficult to do so. her biases tend to show then, especially if her temper starts to flare.

20.  judgement  :  is your muse forgiving of themselves ? how about of others who wrong them ?

HA. no. on both counts. edel holds herself to incredibly high standards, and doesn’t like being reminded of her failures. especially when it comes to how she couldn’t protect her family, despite the fact that she was a child at the time. those memories wear on her and push her to get stronger and stronger, so that she can reach her goal of changing the world.

as for other people…. 8))) no. 100% no. case in point? how quickly she dismisses the prime minister the instant she takes the throne. if you wrong her, she will never trust you fully again.

If you like a response I made, you are more than allowed to just take it and make it into a thread. Some of you do this already, but others might need a bit of a verbal confirmation to let them know that they are more than allowed to do so. When I put a lot of effort into something, I really do enjoy when it sparks the need to turn things into threads with people. Whatever random situation I put our muses in normally something that I’ve wanted to write for a while, and I assume that you do too because you sent me the thing in the first place!

Write out a thing and tag me or mention me. I want to see where things go from there. Plus, who knows, if you wanted something with our muses, breaking the ice tends to make it easier to get that thing.

quick note that i subscribe to the thought that the adrestian empire does not care too much about heteronormitivity. (evidence: how casual edel is regarding how her father had a wife and multiple official consorts, how at ease she is with women flirting with her…) at least in enbarr, it is common knowledge that the nobility has lovers outside of marriage, and it’s not really looked down upon there.

it is only when she interacts with people outside of adrestia that edel realizes that other people aren’t as casual referring to their parents’ other lovers in conversation.

there was a point. edelgard knew, where she had to stop hiding behind hubert’s easy intimidation and face her struggles herself. after all, if she was going to take her father’s throne and take down the church, she couldn’t afford to have any foolish fears holding her back. it was something that her would-be keepers could use against her, a tool for them to keep her cowed and under their influence. and she hated that more than anything.

and so it was with a shake of her head that the imperial princess took another step down the corridor, trying to ignore the damp atmosphere of abyss.  “ i have to do this hubert. and if i let you, then i’ll just remain as i was in the past, never moving forward. “  which just would not do.

another deep breath, and another step forward, hands fisted at her side. yes, she could do this, it would be easy. just make it to the end of the corridor and then she could go back to her room and get some sleep. and she’d sleep easier knowing that she had succeeded in another one of her self-improvement tests.

but then there was a skittering noise, and edelgard squeaked nervously. eyes lit up further down, body hidden in the darkness. and that was it, she was back where she started, hiding behind her loyal retainer’s taller form.  “ on second thought... maybe another night. when they’re not so... active... “  perhaps yuri could let her know when that was, if she didn’t worry that he’d pass that information off to claude who would definitely tease her for it. 

ugh, this fear would persist for now, it seemed.

it was supposed to be his birthday, and no one else had remembered.

the former imperial heir, eldest son of the emperor, jakob von hresvelg was supposed to be thirty-seven today. but, then again, he had died years ago, so why would an empire at war bother remembering that fact? edelgard knew that it was foolish of her to care so much about this, when she had so many more important things to focus on. supply runs, planning her next attack on rhea’s forces, figuring out what to do with the alliance.

and yet, here she was, in the library, staring at a history book, where the warrior songstress had found her. perhaps it would be better if she spoke of the things she had gone through, of the deaths she had witnessed as a child. and dorothea had offered to listen, hadn’t she.

brushing away the traitorous tear that had grown at her eye, edelgard forced herself to smile at her friend. no, she could not burden her with the trauma that she was fighting for. that would make her a target for those who sought to control the young emperor.  “ thank you, dorothea, i really do appreciate the offer. but i must decline. “  setting down the book, she reached out a hand for the other woman.  “ perhaps you can tell me of what you have been up to? over a cup of tea? i would enjoy some company. “
