The Phonecian Scheme is a fun film but Benedict Cumberbatch looks like a Benedict Cumberbatch waxwork that someone is trying to pass off as Karl Marx.

The thing is when the flag is intentionally vague and open to anyone people like the LGB Alliance (transphobic hate group) get to feel like it's open to them.
is this a safe space to say that the additions to the LGBT flag (“progress flag”) are well meaning but undermine the fact that the original colors symbolized vague concepts that could apply to anyone, rather than signifying specific types of human beings, which is, ironically, more “exclusionary” since it begs the question of why “X specific group of humans” aren’t being represented in the imagery now. the original flag completely avoided that conundrum. also it’s a little ugly. But don’t mind me lol.

the thing about Marxist-Leninists and Maoists is that the more they talk about rigor and the objective truth of dialectical materialism the faster they'd shop you out to the boss for trying to start a wildcat strike if you were all working in the Nationalised Steel Wire Factory Site 14 together. Like they're not ashamed of saying "oh of course I support Communist conscription and communist prisons that's how revolutions work you dumb liberal" but they're usually a bit more circumspect about their support for communist strike-breaking and communist snitching, so it's always funny to prod them into saying it.

Ok fine this is about Dragon Ball, I'm hiding it terribly this is Dragon Ball hate.
There's this incredibly niche class experience no-one talks about where you fall in with a group of people who talk exclusively in references to a kids show that was only available on the most expensive satellite package, and you stick around anyway because you're a massive nerd with limited options.
Eventually they get you to sit down and watch The Show and turn to you like they've just introduced you to the Sistine Chapel and it's like, really? your parents paid 39.99 a month for this? were they stupid?

I love when paranormal investigators appeal to their long experience for credibility. I've been playing pretend for seventeen years, and let me tell you in that time I've imagined some shit you wouldn't believe.

hysterectomy should be an informed consent procedure full stop. it should be illegal to deny someone a hysterectomy based on their age or based on them not having kids or based on their spouse/partner not signing off on it. anyone over 18 should be allowed to make that decision.

It's also important not to confuse kindness with niceness. Some of the cruelest people I know are nice and some of the kindest people I know are moody introverts. The point is outcome, not style.
Something I wish more people understood is that optimism and kindness are a choice.
For some people that choice comes more naturally than others. In some situations that choice is easier to make. But even if you're naturally inclined to be kind and optimistic, there will be times when it's a real struggle to not just wallow in the misery, or to be a petty ass gremlin to someone. When it takes real effort to not just take the easy option, because you know it will not help, or will even make stuff worse in the long run.
On the flip side for those who it doesn't come naturally, who really need to work on it, they still can and often do choose both kindness and optimism. Because no matter the difficulty level, it improves your overall quality of life and that of those around you.
Also, choosing kindness is not faking things. If you do kind things you are a kind person, whether you have to actively chose it or not. There is no difference to those you were kind to whether or not you had to think about the action, or if it just happened automatically. You still treated them kindly, and that is what they'll remember. It will mean more than you might think.
The good news is that it's a muscle you can train. The more you forge those pathways in your brain, the easier they are to walk. Where one day you may find that while you may never be a fully natural optimistic kind person, you can pretty well imitate one, and that's all that matters.
Kindness and optimism are a choice and you always get to choose it.

Can we please stop associating being a good person with how much you’re willing to suffer in silence for other people? You can be a kind person and still say “no, I don’t have the time/energy to help you with that.” You can be a kind person and still say “this makes me uncomfortable, please stop.” You can be a kind person and still say “I disagree and here’s why.” You can be kind and still say “I’m not okay with this.” Being kind is about treating people with kindness and respect, not about being the human equivalent of a doormat!
