So glad I'm not the only one who had those thoughts about Daniil and Eva. I really really hope it's more of a case that Eva's death greatly affected him as a friend of his more than a lover, or something like that.

yep exactly. I am not opposed to their friendship as a concept (though it does contradict Classic lore + Dankovsky claiming "nothing bad can happen" in the Stillwater & calling it his one safe haven [can't find the exact quote rn] directly contradicts literally every single piece of P2 Stillwater lore, so personally I would have preferred their relationship & Dankovsky's idea of the Stillwater more closely resembled Classic & P2) however I really do think they're trying to put a romantic spin on their relationship. More so in a doomed unfulfilled (but reciprocal) romance type of way (see: P2 voiceline "I never even told her how I felt… ")

Which is just unfortunate because P2 already has a bad track record of watering the characters down, but especially the women. So to have Eva (who, despite being one of the milder personalities in Classic still has a lot going for her emotionally and ideologically, as well as in relationships with others [namely Yulia and Andrey, which I'm 99% certain won't be a thing in P3]) be turned into a stand-in for a stereotypical romantic interest (which Dankovsky does not need in the first place) is just bad writing. And Quarantine only confirms this since Eva is a-okay with being Dankovsky's personal therapist at the end of each day, as well as with being likened to a pet (which even Dankovsky himself recognizes was not a nice thing to say. Cool-girl Eva however has no problem with it because she is sooo sweet and understanding), all the while fufiling the role of the perfect listener, only affirming Dankovsky's thoughts and urging him to go on, never once expressing her own/contradictory views on anything being discussed.
