“Curse of the Virgin Canvas" – The Start of The Emptiness
"Curse of the Virgin Canvas" opens The Emptiness and instantly grabbed my attention. There’s something about the way the track builds its imagery that’s just stunning. From the very beginning, it pulls you in and makes you want to know more. The narrator sets the scene, and that’s when we meet The Artist.
The Artist is in a really dark place—he’s just found out about Annabel’s death. You can feel him sinking into the stages of grief. First, it’s denial, then he’s begging for forgiveness, and eventually, he starts vowing revenge against whoever killed Annabel. There’s so much emotion packed into this track, and it’s impossible not to get swept up in it.
We also hear from Annabel herself in the song. She says:
“A mirror never lies
They know, everybody knows
Do you not see what they see?
A mirror never lies
I see what they see
Everybody knows, everybody knows”
My Theories:
After hearing this song, it feels like The Artist is waging a war inside his own mind. It almost seems like he’s the one who killed Annabel—or at least he thinks he did. I’ve got two theories on what’s going on:
1. The Artist actually killed her, and now he’s drowning in guilt and paranoia.
2. He’s mourning her death, but he blames himself so much that it’s spiraling into madness.
Honestly, I’m not sure which one is right, but that’s what makes the song so compelling—it leaves so much room for interpretation. Either way, it’s incredibly powerful.
All in all, “Curse of the Virgin Canvas" is an amazing track, and it’s just the first taste of what’s to come on The Emptiness. You should definitely listen to the entire album! So life changing.
