                    FOREHEAD   CREASED   SLIGHTLY   ,   LIP   WORRIED     between   his   teeth   &   was   he   not   bend   over   a   pile   of   notes   in   a   reclusive   corner   of   the   library   ,   dimitri   would   worry   it   might   look   ridiculous   .   it   still   does   ,   he   is   sure   ,   running   a   hand   through   his   hair   in   equal   parts   frustration   &   exhaustion   harldy   helps   .

DIMITRI   HEADCANON   -   DEPRESSION   :   while   i   am   going   to   comment   on   just   what   exactly   was   wrong   with   dimitri   post   time   skip   (   just   saying   depression   is   not   gonna   cut   it   .   )   when   it   is   not   10pm   ,   there   is   another   thing   i   have   to   talk   about   first   .   take   this   as   a   PSA   of   sorts   .   spoilers   ahead   .  trigger   warnings   for   discussions   of   depression   ,  

this   is   about   the   miracously   quick   recovery   dimitri   had   after   rodrigue’s   death   .   of   course   ,   importance   for   the   flow   of   the   game   play   (   though   personally   i   would   deeply   enjoy   a   whole   section   of   the   crown   prince   visits   a   therapist   .   )   so   this   is   no   real   criticism   in   the   game   itself   .   but   let   it   be   known   that   for   as   long   as   i   live   ,   mister   dimitri   alexandre   blaiddyd   does   not   recover   over   night   .   at   least   not   on   this   blog   .   what   does   change   is   the   way   he   sees   the   world   .   but   he   still   hears   the   voices   of   the   dead   ,   sometimes   &   it   is   only   with   years   passing   that   they   slowly   fade   away   .   he   does   ,   however   ,   learn   not   to   listen   to   them   as   much   .   his   paranoia   lessens   &   he   no   longer   mistrusts   those   that   care   for   him   (   +   heartfelt   apologies   to   felix   ,   sylvain   &   ingrid   because   it   is   the   least   they   deserve  .   )   but   distrust   is   still   his   first   instinct   .   a   gut   feeling   he   then   thinks   on   instead   of   acting   rashly   . night   terrors   become   worse   once   he   actually   starts   to   sleep   regularly   again   ,   so   you   may   still   find   him   roam   the   castle   hall’s   on   more   occasions   than   one   .   sometimes   he   plays   cards   with   the   guards   .   it’s   not   too   bad   . hopelessness   &   guilt   are   now   a   constant   companion   .   but   they   are   no   longer   his   driving   force   .   rather   than   letting   those   notions   guide   him   ,   he   relies   on   others   when   his   mind   drove   him   in   a   corner   &   he   seeks   advice   /   reminders   from   friends   when   he   is   uncertain   of   where   to   step   next   .

it’s   a   process   &   it   is   terribly   ,   achingly   slow   .   it   is   frustrating   because   he   can’t   see   it   ,   not   like   a   wound   that   closes   with   appropriate   care   .   but   it   is   a   process   nonetheless

                    there   is   a   lot   to   say   about   this   ,   not   going   to   lie   .   even   if   i   exclude     (     &   i   will     )     the   time   skip   period   as   his   moral   code   &   life   philosophies   were   briefly   paused   .  

                    in   general   dimitri   cares   deeply   about   the   future   of   faerghus   .   about   the   few   friends   he   has   .   he   is   concerned   about   &   aware   of   racial   inequalities   in   the   kingdom   &   has   full   plans   to   take   care   of   those   as   soon   as   he   is   able   .   that   is   part   of   his   moral   commitments   ,   too   .   to   give   everyone   the   same   chances   with   no   regards   to   gender   ,   race   ,   bloodline   or   whether   they   possess   a   crest   .   it   is   part   of   a   more   personal   commitment   of   his   ,   which   is   earning   redemption   for   his   wrongdoings   .   &   this   is   where   religion   comes   into   play   for   contrary   to   popular   belief   ,   dimitri   is   not   religious   &   stops   praying   while   he   is   still   a   student   /   only   appears   in   church   to   keep   up   appearances   .   he   does   not   seek   forgiveness   from   the   goddess   but   from   his   friends   &   the   people   that   look   up   to   him   as   their   king   .   his   family   may   have   been   devoted   ,   but   dimitri   himself   sees   more   use   in   working   on   an   issue   himself   rather   than   leave   it   up   to   the   concept   of   a   goddess   .
