Revisiting an older piece with some new learning and a better dog. I really loved basically dismantling all most some of my old habits with a sledgehammer.

i really do love those military jackets with embroidery that resembles a gilded ribcage they serve sooooooo much thanatological cunt it's unreal. the memento mori of it all. the bastardised martyrdom. the self-fulfilling prophecy of dressing yourself in silver and gold evoking the final, fragile shield between the most vital, vulnerable parts of you and annihilation, just to go to a place where the objective is to hack it to pieces as cruelly and efficiently as possible until you resemble nothing more than ground meat trodden into the dust you came from. fuck the military for real and forever but they went harder with horrifically ironic self-deceiving propaganda than anyone ever has or will. give it up for the old lie everyone!

Random headcanon:
Been reading law for two days and my brain is smoking. Anyway. I think there would be some significant ways in which mando law would differ from what I’ve been learning:
I think Mandalorian law would not be the same for Mandalorians and aruetiise, even if the aruetiise lived in Mandalorian space. For example, I think the cases of an outsider challenging the reigning Mand’alor might be cases of the Mand’alor deciding to honour that challenge rather than the outsider having a right to it.
The specific laws concerning aruetiise in Mandalorian space originally derive from the laws concerning conquered thralls populations in the Mandalorian Empire.
Children too young to swear the Resol’nare (and thus prove their knowledge of the law) have special protected status and are not subject to e.g. criminal punishments. Adult Mandalorian foundlings and adults unable to swear due to e.g. developmental conditions also fit into this category in most cases. If a child/ward commits a crime it would most likely be on the buir or vergebuir who failed in their duty to guard them.
Psychotic breaks on the other hand are categorised as injuries preventing one from fulfilling their lawful duties, not inability to understand and be bound by law.
Mandalorians are nomadic, so Mandalorian law is not explicitly confined to Mandalorian space, but binds Mandalorians wherever they go. This of course does create conflicts with Mandalorian enclaves and the governments of the worlds they inhabit.

helmeted emotions headcanons
being a culture that spends at least half its time in full armor, constantly having a helmet on is bound to produce some differences for both mandos and clones
because people cannot see where you’re looking in a helmet so long as youre careful to keep your head in a natural position, i bet this is a common behavior with the helmet off too. aruetiise and civvies alike are both disconcerted and uncomfortable when the helmets are off but their wearer is looking around with hardly any head movement, like some kind of tactical bird of prey
mandos typically have terrible poker faces on account of their helmet usually being their poker face. clones do not have this problem overall, since kamino forced them all to learn to hide emotions out of armor.
a good hint that a clone or mando doesnt like you is if theyre forced to interact with you out of armor, but still don’t turn their head to look, move their body when they talk, and may not watch their facial expression very closely. they may be out of armor, but they’re still treating you as if they are.
