Rather let down that his ‘ grow his hair out a bit ’ experiment had failed, he knew it was time to cut his hair again. He was fond of the idea of having it cut by Danny, though.

⠀❝ alright then, cut it. ❞

   ‘ NO. you look raggedy. ‘ 

He meant that in the fondest way possible, of course, and a subtle smile pulled at his lips. 

   ‘ i can cut it for you. ‘

❖ have you ever run away

⠀⠀⠀⠀ ❝ no, of course not. ❞ 

⠀⠀⠀⠀ Reuven had heard of a child on his block that ran away from his home, taking his younger sister with him, they’d been ten years old. He had never been able to piece together why the boy had taken off. He had always loved his father, his home life had always been happy. He could never imagine a situation that he would want to leave his own home. What kind of child would be able to live without their parents?

⠀⠀⠀⠀It had turned out that the father of the child that had ran away had been emotionally and physicall abusive. Reuven’s world shifted drastically. 

⠀⠀⠀⠀As he had said, Reuven had never considered running away from his own home. He was fortunate enough to have a loving father and a warm home. He never forgot about the boy that had ran away. There were other ways to run away, rather than his home he ran from ideas. He ran from a lot of things. It was childish, but he knew no other way of dealing with things. Besides, if he had to confront one thing, he’d have to confron the harder stuff that came with it.

have you ever gone to any protests?

⠀⠀⠀⠀ Protesting was tricky business, there always was a risk of injury or isolation from other as a result. But as a college student, Reuven had seen his fair share of protesting students. He had been to one, a late night ralley. He’d been pulled in so suddenly Perhaps it had not been the best idea he’d ever had, the group had gotten rather violent. He limped home after punching someone trying to control the mob in the face. And then being ever so slightly beaten up. To his surprise his father had already been asleep and he avoided a lecture. 

⠀⠀⠀⠀He was surpised that no one had noticed he was suddenly wearing his old  eye patch again, or how he was limping ever so slightly. His mind was racing over whether to admit he’d partcipated, it had seemed that since that night no one had really mentioned it to him. Perhaps that no one had known he’d been there, yet he knew that no one should know. Mostly for his own good.

⠀⠀⠀⠀ Reuven’s eyes dropped to the ground, even discussing the theoretical situation of only being able to save one of two people he could live without gutted him. 

⠀⠀⠀⠀ Danny Saunders, a boy who he grew so much with in the past few years. So much of his own soul resided within his love for him. His life before knowing him seemed almost unrecognizable now that he existed in his life. A cold, empty place would be left in it without him. 

⠀⠀⠀⠀ David Malter, though, was his own father, a man who single handedly raised him to be the man he was today. Nothing of his world would ever be the same without him, the paternal bond they shared was previous unmatched in the amount of love exhibited. 

⠀⠀⠀⠀ But now mixed before him was the ultimate decision that he had to make this theoretical decision. One person would be hurt either way. But it was only theoretical. 

⠀⠀⠀⠀ ❝ danny. ❞ 

⠀⠀⠀⠀ There was already painful ideas filling his mind,the thoughts alone were brutal.

danny really loves you

⠀⠀⠀⠀ There was no simple way for him to explain the way him and Danny had grown together. He remembered his father speaking about the way two true friends became a single soul inhabiting two bodies, but even that did not describe the complexities of their relationship. Would there ever be addiquate words to do so? Such an emotional bond defied the concept of language sometimes, but this was a simple sentiment. 

⠀⠀⠀⠀ Did he love Danny back? Of course. There was no possible way to deny such a simple statement. The way his heart beat quickened at the feeling of his fingers intertwined with his own, or how luxurious his voice flowed through the air, all signs pointed to an obvious loving admiration. Looking back even to moments at that fateful baseball game turned holy war, perhaps there were even signs that their fates where to be so intertwined from the beginning. 

⠀⠀⠀⠀ Such philosophical debates were interesting enough, but in the end this was a relationship with a real person. Not a debate topic. He loved Danny, more than he had ever loved before. Wasn’t that all that mattered?
