Hitorijime My Hero
Just binge watched Hitorijime My Hero which was different from the usual yaoi anime. While it was refreshing to leave behind the usual trope of older, aggressive aka abusive and insanely jealous/controlling/possessive seme convincing the younger, naive younger, (more often than not under age. Does Japan not have statutory age limits?), uke that while they don’t know it yet but they are madly, deeply, truly in love with them. Like we’re all in 2017 but they’re in 2035 where they stand on mountains and bathe in seas together. This is why it’s ok that I’m holding you down cause that clear ‘no, it hurts!’ is really a ‘yes, please more you sexy beast!’ because I can rape you into loving me. But let me get back on topic before rage mode kicks in. Hitorijime My Hero slightly deviant from this well played out and needs to die trope by having both parties wanting to be together. Which yeah for consent! But if they had left it at that where would the fun be? The consenting part of the relationship is in deep, deep quotes b/c 1) there can not be consent when there is a imbalance of power i.e. teacher/student and 2) when one of the parties is underage (14/15) and the other party is a full grown ass adult. One step forward, two steps back. At least they tried ... I guess .... maybe
