MATERIALS SET - BUILDING A BEDROOM PROPS - how may we place objects in our room to antagonise our character PERFORMANCE/ CHOREOGRAPHY - constructing character and narrative CINEMATOGRAPHY - acting as the vehicle to describe someone is a specific headspace that is disorienting and challenging Lighting/ Grade - what colours and transitions help us develop our concept and explore the urgency of our mission - to bring awareness to chronic fatigue, depression and the current challenges young people face beyond the C-19 pandemic
NARRATIVE DIRECTION/ NARRATIVE EXTENSIVE SHOT LIST TO BE COMPLETED 17th/18th of April CHOREOGRAPHY/ PERFORMANCE Working with actor - combining performance and dance to construct character / emotional ambivalence - discuss EFT instructed into movement CINEMATOGRAPHY Refs Gaspar Noe / Sabie Brothers - Enter the Void / Good Time - steady Cam with 360 Transitions How can these elements illustrate the narrative of someone feeling the weight of fatigue of their shoulders as they try to pursue their goals. While trying to observe someone coming to terms with the negativity in their psyche, how can we make the outcome positive?
INITIAL RESEARCH/ ENQUIRIES CHRONIC FATIGUE Enquiry How is M.E treated through movement Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAclBdj20ZU UNREST FILM / The Technological Gaze - how does technology impact our ability to think autonomously and rationalise during touch periods... how this has potentially aggravated depression etc in young people. DEPRESSION ENQUIRY How is depression associated with M.E / Chronic Anxiety How can this be approached through movement/acting How does this manifest in the psyche/ how can chaos be expressed through cinematography/ set / lighting? FORFILLING POTENTIAL ENQUIRY How can these elements combine to associate with this subject that many young people face today? How can depression, anxiety, chronic fatigue manifest from this specific headspace How can we encourage people to keep pursuing their goals through this moving image piece

First generated GAN of female face database
This GAN will be the first GAN of a series that will contrast and compare the bias’ within datasets that present an individual’s interpretation of what defines a female face. This will bode the question if we are at all bias within our understanding of who is impacted by the effects of menopause which can also effect women under the age of 30.
As stated in the DA+AD brief:
“ Menopause doesn’t just affect those in their 40s and 50s. Perimenopause, the time that your body starts to make its natural transition to menopause, can begin as early as your mid-30s, and ‘premature menopause’ (when a woman’s periods stop before the age of 45) affects one in 100 women, trans-men and non-binary people either naturally or as a side effect of medical treatments (for example chemotherapy and radiation). One in 10,000 under 20s experience early menopause.”

Progress with ‘discovered’ Kodachrome slides.
My initial development through my primary research has drawn me to repurpose vintage Kodachrome slides that I inherited years ago when a technician was throwing them out.... Reading Wells’ chapters on Heat Death and Wildfire, I experimented with the very tactility of the film which documented an array of memories from all over the world. By placing them onto direct heat the emulsion began to warp and destroy the images. By using these images as practice towards my own landscape images I would like to produce in the coming weeks that are inspired by the PROVOKE era in post war Japan - I’m beginning to find ways in which to articulate the apocalyptic tone of The Uninhabitable Earth by tampering with the negatives themselves.

Element 2 - Transferring images onto Aluminium Plates
500x500 mm
My artefact proposal alongside my dissertation illustrates the societal problem of interpreting intersectionality in the digital age. The images will be exploring the concept of aloofness and anxiety - common notions which are often expressed by practitioners who work in the creative industries. Applying my paper’s hypothesis which discusses the varying impacts of our hyperextended use of technology and the psychological, economical and psychoanalytical domains which belong to the cultural issues of the 21st century - I’ve produced these images, relying on the minimal use of technology in order to remove AI as an essential application.
Using experimental processing and printing methods, the purpose of the images will be to be critical of current authenticity of thought and transparency within the creative industries by symbolically removing the use of technological applications and applying natural compounds to tell a story. These processing methods alongside my photogram include caffenol film processing, boiling and aluminium metal printing to produce the physical photographs.
The purpose of using aluminium as a surface to experiment with the crossover techniques within analogue image making both reflect the materiality of our technological devices and the volumes of digitally indulgent still imagery we are exposed to on a daily occurrence. Aluminium, being the second most popular metal that is industrially used alongside steel is hailed by engineers. The metal provides a significant metaphor about how smartphones ( a lightweight device ) which direct contemporary conversations surrounding intersectionality hold more power than we could ever anticipate - bearing great consequences if abused.
