Streetside BBQ Serving Up Some Food at This Year's Tour!
Streetside BBQ is a classic barbecue catering company that brings the true barbecue experience to the Philadelphia area. All of our meats are served with homemade sauces that accentuate the flavor for a complete experience and keep customers coming back for more. Streetside BBQ is owned and operated by Demond Mullen. Demond was born in Georgia and spent his formative years there so he is deep rooted in southern tradition and hospitality. Demond dates his interest in smoking and cooking back to his early childhood when his father used to smoke meat for the family. What began as a genuine enjoyment of the food quickly grew into a curiosity as to how the meat is smoked to perfection each time. Streetside BBQ is the vehicle through which Demond combines this powerful emotional connection and timeless tradition that fuels his love for smoking together with the sincere satisfaction that he derives from bringing a little “down-home” delight to the Mid-Atlantic.

Demond decided to help with this year's Greater Philadelphia Tour de Cure because the cause is very close to his own family.
"At Streetside BBQ, it is very important for us to give back to our community in a way that allows us to share our product and in return, derive a sense of satisfaction that comes with knowing that our contribution is going towards a meaningful cause. I decided to become a part of the Tour de Cure this year as my father, with whom I am very close, was recently diagnosed with diabetes. I wanted to give to this organization as they are working tirelessly to support individuals with diabetes and to constantly find ways to improve the lives of individuals from different walks of life that suffer from this disease."
The riders at this year's Greater Philadelphia Tour de Cure will be treated to pulled pork sandwiches, hamburgers, hot dogs and pulled chicken accompanied with smoked vegetables. All of their meats are cooked low and slow over a blend of fragrant woods.

Round Guys Brewery Hosting Beer Garden at this Year's Tour!
We are excited to announce that Round Guys Brewery will be hosting a beer garden after this year’s Greater Philadelphia Tour de Cure! This local brewery is looking forward to offering the supporters of the Tour de Cure complimentary brews after the cycling event. Bill McGeeney , Operations Manager, expressed that the Tour is the first of many events Round Guys hopes to take part in.

“We are looking to get more involved with community events throughout Montgomery County (and beyond) that focus on being active. We have worked with the Greater Philadelphia Tour de Cure previously and we are excited to do it again!”
Round Guys Brewery is located in Lansdale, PA right on Main Street (with an entrance on Wood Street) behind the Philadelphia Pretzel Factory. On First Fridays throughout the summer months, they close off Wood Street and host live bands while serving their beers and food. They are also one of the many breweries participating in this year’s Lansdale Beer Tasting Festival on June 28th.

All of their brewing, canning and bottling is done on-site. They also handle all of the content and designs that go on their bottles and cans. The management team has years of experience in the brewing industry and are active members of the Homebrew Club of Collegeville, Pa.
Their menu has a variety of different foods and beers to offer and there is something for everyone that visits. You can try something light and refreshing like their BerlinerWeisster or something a tad darker like their Fuzzy Muttness Stout. You can even stop in and get a six pack to go! View their full Beer List & Taproom Menu.

Round Guys will be at the celebration after this year’s Greater Philadeplhia Tour de Cure along with Streetside BBQ of Philadelphia. They will be offering complimentary 4 oz. pours of a few of their most popular beers for supporters to enjoy including:
Kiss Off IPA: This lowly bittered, golden pale ale imparts a smooth malt character offset by a brilliantly resiny hop floralness. Mimicking a session pale ale in body and character, but packs a sneaky and hearty abv.
Sundown Saison: This light bodied, softly golden, crisp beer contains strong perfumy and floral characters balanced on a pleasant sweet malt base.
Fear of the Brett Planet IPA: 100% Brettanomyces bruxellensis fermented pale ale. Juicy, Fruity with a dry finish augmented by citrusy, piney, resiny hops. NOT SOUR.
Wallflower Wheat: The very mild banana notes offset themselves gracefully against an equally subtle hop derived lemon. Light and flavorful, perfect for a warm spring day!
Just another great reason to join this year’s Tour de Cure at Temple Ambler Campus! Haven’t signed up yet? No worries! Sign up now!
Check out Round Guys Brewery’s here!| Like Round Guys on Facebook!

Don’t forget to stop by the brewery too! They are located at 324 W Main St. (their entrance is on Wood Street) in Lansdale, Pa.

Red Rider Spotlight: Rob
I am living proof that you don't have to let diabetes beat you. I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes in 2008, but like many other people had so many other things going on in my life I didn't pay attention to it. Luckily, the only truly bad part that happened was I developed neuropathy (nerve pain) in my feet. As a result, I couldn't do exercise that put a lot of strain on my feet.
However, in 2012, I took charge of my diabetes and it didn't take a lot of effort. I began to ride my bike again. I have always loved bike riding, but while raising a family as a single dad, I didn't think I had time for it. I started first with very small amounts - rode for only 5 minutes. As I increased my bike riding, I also changed my diet to eliminate wheat (the source of most carbohydrates) and high sugar foods (soda, candy, etc.) It was much easier than I thought.
Within a few months, I had brought my short term and long term blood sugars into normal levels.
Then I did my first Tour de Cure ride in 2013. It was the most gratifying experience ever, especially as a Red Rider. I could ride as well as those without diabetes and I had no foot pain.
I'm riding again in 2014 and hope anyone who is battling diabetes is inspired by me, that you can do this. You can successfully fight diabetes and not let it beat you. You don't have to ride a bike, but consult with your doctor and find out what is best for you. In the meantime, I will ride for you and on behalf of everyone else fighting diabetes in any form. If you see me or anyone riding in the Tour de Cure with a Red Rider jersey, simply shout "Go Red Rider!" and we'll know we're riding for you!

Nutrition Friday Facts!
"Try choosing a non-wheat grain as your carb source. Wheat may spike blood sugars more than other grains. Try amaranth, buckwheat, quinoa or wild rices."
" Try working out first thing in morning without eating....but add some electrolytes or natural electrolyte drink without artificial colors or sweeteners. I now use Infinit Nutrition's ISIS/ Go Fast or if you like coffee, MUD with some protein. (discount code nutritioninmotion) But try many to see which you like best."

Red Rider Spotlight: Jason Smith
As you may know, I live with diabetes. Because finding a cure and better treatments is of utmost importance to me personally, I am participating in the Tour de Cure. I am riding as a Red Rider, someone who rides with diabetes.

Having diabetes can be difficult at times; and I've had it for over 32 years. Unfortunately, I am suffering from the long term effects of the disease - blindness, poor healing, aches and pains, as well as retinopathy just to name a few..... There are highs and lows, quite literally. But what I've learned is that behind every person with diabetes, there is an amazing support system. My family, friends, doctors, nurses and others make me realize that I am not alone.
By participating in the Tour de Cure shows me that beyond my own support system there are thousands of compassionate people dedicated to fighting diabetes by riding and/or raising money as a community.
With your help, I am supporting the programs that the American Diabetes Association provides for millions of people like myself. Ultimately our goal is to prevent and cure diabetes for good! It will also stop the debilitating side effects of having the disease.
I am riding because the American Diabetes Association's Tour de Cure is so much more than a cycling event to me. It is my opportunity to change the future and make a positive impact in the lives of those who are affected by diabetes.

TRIM! - Team Red in Motion!
Help us reach others with diabetes! We're asking all Red Riders to ask their doctors to participate in our TRIM! program - TRIM! stands for Team Red in Motion! The idea is that doctors who recommend exercise to their patients could tell their patients about TRIM!. TRIM! is an exercise group organized by Team Red and they have several cycling and walking exercise options, plus TRIM! is filled with friendly folks who are using exercise to fight diabetes, so patients not only get exercise but they get a support network of like-minded folks as well.
Please contact Kevin Horio ([email protected]) for info on how to get your doctor involved.
