Blog 8: Final Project
The game Escape is a 2D top-down shooter where the player has to survive for a certain amount of time. Currently, we only have one level where the player just tries to survive for as long as possible against an endless horde of a basic enemy type just using the basic weapon (or bullet) type. There are sound effects for the gun shooting, the enemy getting damaged, and the player getting hit. Additionally, health items have been added as well but without the drawn assets.
In the future, we definitely want to expand the game by adding more enemy types, more levels, and more bullet types. A thing that we found really crucial was adding weapons upgrades since changing up the gameplay would keep the player engaged as well as giving them the tools necessary to fight the new enemies. For our two new enemy types, a zombie and a boss character, we definitely wanted to make the zombie the basic enemy type and the boss as, well, the boss enemy. The zombie would just be able to hit the enemy. The ghost, who was our original basic enemy, is now considered the advanced enemy type and is able to shoot fireballs. The boss would be the enemy that the player faces on the third and final level and it will be able to shoot projectiles in all directions.
In the final version of the game, the player would have to survive for a certain amount of time against an endless horde of enemies in order to continue to the next level. There will be health pickups that can heal the player throughout the level to assist them since they only have three healthpoints. The next level and the final level will each have a weapons upgrade that will change the type of bullet that the player has such as being able to shoot three at once or shoot one very big bullet.
I am currently working on a few things that include a redrawn main character, fireball for the enemy who can shoot projectiles, a redrawn (more detailed) map, another version of the map for the second level, and a redrawn ghost asset (our second enemy type who could shoot projectiles). The other artist on our team, Alisha, has finished the zombie character (our basic enemy type), is currently working on the boss character and fire animations that will be added to the final level.
