Marketing Gen- Zers
Now that the newer generation is becoming more significant consumers, marketing them has become more critical than ever. Gen Zers are estimated to have a spending power of $ 29 and 143 billion dollars, but how do you properly market to this population? To get started we have to recognize the characteristics of this generation; since they are digital natives that have limited attention span and patience. Another quality they have is that they are excellent at multitasking when it comes to viewing multiple screens. They could be scrolling through their phone as well as watching T.V which makes catching their attention slightly more challenging, but the brand Missguided use this to their advantage and dress reality TV shows personalities in their clothes that viewer can immediately buy on their phone. This move rose its profit to 40%. Gen Zers also spend a significant amount of time on their phone, so mobile marketing is vital. Businesses have too make sure pictures they post on Instagram have shopping tags on photos they post on Instagram is essential so the buyer can easily be able to shop and not lose interest. Marketers also have to be aware that Gen Zers are more cautious than the previous generation and are harder to gain their trust. Business needs to be transparent and responsive. By being helpful and giving them advice, they earn their trust and increase their own business. Gen Zers also trust influencers and are 1.3x more likely to buy a product if their favorite influencer recommends it. 78% of Gen Zers also depend on reviews to help decide on which products they want to buy.

What Type of Videos People Like
As a user of social media and a consumer, I am sometimes bombarded by different promotional videos when I go online, and it's not a coincidence that many brands are uploading videos. It has been proven that videos are the most preferred mentioned of content, but everyone has a different preference. Some like funny scripted videos and some like more serious and educational videos. Some like long videos and some like short videos.
So how do brands choose the type of video to post? A team from Animoto have created a guide on what type of videos consumer like and engage with the most. They found out that consumers like "How-to" videos, sales videos and "Top 5 List" videos the most. They also engage more when videos are eye-catching and straight-to-the-point.
The type of social media platform and the marketing strategy also depends on what videos must be uploaded. For instance, people who log into Facebook are looking for updates, and they share what's new. People on Twitter search for what is trending and they share what is happening at the moment. Instagram user use the platform for inspiration and share what is attractive to them. YouTube users are typically looking for videos to learn and share educational videos. Depending on your marketing goals and the product or service that your company is trying to sell will be the guide to where you should post your videos and what type of video it should be.

New Camera Feature on Twitter
Vine was the pioneer of short storytelling. Users only had 6 seconds to tell a story, and they loved using it. Later on, other social media platforms were inspired by this innovation, and they too started to include similar features to their programs. Every social media platform has a story feature except for one, Twitter. It's not until recently that they finally decided to jump on the "story" bandwagon and added a camera feature to their app. People can now swipe left from their newsfeeds and activate their camera. It's defaulted to capture a still image, but they can also take looping videos or broadcast live. People can also add text to describe their image, add relevant hashtags, and change the color of the overlay to match their aesthetics. Then users can post it like they would with any other tweet. The only thing missing are stickers and filters, but Twitter promises that they will be added in the future. Twitter also does not have a dedicated area for stories like the story bar that Instagram and Facebook have, but users have the option to view other stories by going to the "What's Happening" or "Explore" page.
Twitter is a popular platform with over 261 million users that are constantly tweeting, but by adding a camera feature, they are expecting to see more engagement from the users and increase visual focus. This new feature is also great for marketing because business can now post pictures or videos that are happening at the moment, whether that be an event or showing how their product is made. Business can push their customers to retweet their image and use their hashtags. If they get a lot of engagement from a post, Twitter will then feature them on their explore page where they have the opportunity to reach more potential customers.

Trolls- The Internet’s Parasites
It seems that no one is immune to social media trolls, not even British Royalty. Meghan Markle, an American actress who starred in favorite movies such as Remeber Me, Horrible Bosses and Suits, married Prince Harry in 2018. Although she was already famous for being an actress, she now has a bigger and brighter spotlight on her. Everyone is watching her every move, especially trolls. Trolls are people who seek to abuse/ aggravate people online, and unfortunately, a lot of people get hurt by their online bullying. Megan Markle who is both beautiful and charming doesn't have much for the trolls to attack her, but one thing, her race. Her father is white, and her mother is black, but even though she passes as a white woman, she still gets racially scrutinized.
She has been getting constant hate on social media since she's been married to Prince Harry. People have been treating her online and leaving comments about on her past, her race and even her pregnancy being fake. It started to get really bad that Prince Harry and Megan needed to hire extra security to make sure that if any of those threats were true, they would be protected. Since we live in an era where information is passed across people easily, the royal staff has been motoring her social media feeds 24/7 — making sure to delete hurtful comments and reporting pages. The Royal team has also installed software to block comment that has the n-word included or knife and guns emogi.
This week the royal family has set guidelines for the people who are active on their social media platform. The guideline prohibits people from posting hateful and abusive comments. Megan has clarified that she doesn't read anything that has to do with her online or on magazines but instead focuses on making a difference in women equality.

The Retirement Home of Social Media
I remember when Facebook just started to become a thing. I was 14 and everyone in my grade started to create their Facebook accounts. Posting pictures of themselves and sharing links that a typical fourteen years old would share. A few years later I started noticing that some of my friends weren't posting as frequently and when I asked them why they said it was because more of their relatives were creating Facebook accounts and sending them a friend request. Later on, I was experiencing the same thing which made me stop using Facebook overall. This was back when I was in middle school but now there are recent studies that have proven that Facebook is becoming a retirement home. There has been a decrease of younger people who have been using the platform and an increase of people over the age of 55 creating new profiles. In 2017, 67% of people who were over the age of 12 were using Facebook but in 2019 the number decreased to 61%. There are many reasons why younger people are leaving the platform and it's not only because their Aunts are sending them a friend request. In recent years Facebook has been having several privacy problems and breach trust. Since Facebook needs a lot of personal information just to be able to create an account, it is very easy for catfishes to get a person information and use it. It's also hard to separate your work life and personal life when it comes to Facebook because Facebook doesn't allow user to have different usernames. Facebook has also become a battleground for political issues which makes it uncomfortable just to be on the platform. That's why younger people tend to use Snapchat and Instagram. Their platform is more appealing to look at and it's easier to use. People can also have multiple accounts in which they can use it for personal reason or business. I myself find Facebook confusing to use and am overwhelmed by all the information and ads that are thrown at me. I am interested to see what Facebook will do in the future to save themselves from losing their young users and becoming a "retirement home".

Social Media Challenges
Social Media has given us the opportunity to share pictures, music, and video to our friends online but it has also created a sequence of "Challenges" to be formed. Even though most challenges are innocent and are formed to bring friends together or awareness to a cause, such as the "ALS Bucket Ice Challenge" which promoted awareness to the disease Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, many challenges have caused harm to both children and adults. In 2013, The Cinnamon Challenge was born. It was one of the first challenges to go viral that had people put a tablespoon of cinnamon into their mouth and swallow it without any water. As innocent as that sounds, trying to swallow dried up bark without any water can lead to an asthma attack, choking, chemical poisoning or lung damage. Many news sources and day-time television tried to warn people about the dangers of doing this challenge yet there are hundreds of video on YouTube that shows people doing the challenge voluntarily. The Kylie Jenner Challenge was also a viral challenge that would consist of people sucking on a shot glass to mimic the infamous lips of Kylie Jenner. This trend has caused shot glasses to break on people lips causing them to rush to the hospital to get stitches. It has also caused bruising, scaring and permanent disfiguring. Although these challenges have caused some health concerns, there have been recent challenges such as The Blue Whale Challenge and The MOMO Challenge that have been a lot more dangerous to the wellbeing of people, especially children. The Blue Whale has children, usually around the age of 10- 14, perform a variety of different task in the course of 50 day that eventually leads them to suicide for them to "win" the game. If they try to stop in the middle of the challenge, there are cyberbullied and blacked mailed to continue with the challenge. The MOMO Challenge is very similar to The Blue Whale. It's a disturbing video of a girl who looks less like human and more like a monster that had a song played in the background that warned children she was out to get them and suggest them to do harm to themselves. The video is hidden in the middle of an average looking video that would attract children and not cause parents to think twice about it.YouTube has taken steps to make sure video like MOMO don't appear on their YouTube Kids apps and has demonetized any video that is similar to The Momo Challenge. They have also asked Creators to educate viewers about the topic and have asked for the viewers to report and flag any videos that could be harmful to children. Finally, YouTube has created a policy prohibiting harmful and dangerous challenges to be posted on their platform which can help reduce the number of harmful videos that are on the platform.
Parent have to be conscious of what their children watch online. Children are a digital native, by the age of two they already know how to use a phone and different platforms. They can easily open up a video that they shouldn't be watching that can drastically change the way they think. There are many ways to protect the influence that social media has on children. For instance, parents should pay attention to their children behavior when it comes to social media particularly if they stop using social media or become scared to use it. Parents also should notify their children of the dangers of sharing private information and that it's okay for them to come to them if they see anything suspicious online. Last but not least, it's okay for parents to go through their children phone and look at there online history so they can make sure they keep their children out of harm ways.

What does an NBA Player and I have in common?
Depression, anxiety, and an addiction to social media.
When Mark Zuckerberg created the first facebook account, do you think he ever wondered if what he was building would mess up thousands of people psyche? I am part of the first generation of people who grew up with social media and have experienced what it's like to always compare yourself to another person. People would post beautiful pictures of themselves and their life that always seemed perfect, and I would become envious and self-conscious about my appearance. At the age of fourteen, I would start photoshopping my face and delete pictures that didn't get a lot of likes. Later on, I realize that social media was making me depressed and decided to delete everyone who went to the same school as me and stop posting pictures about my life. Only by doing that it helped ease my anxiety. N.B.A Players, who have everything from the fame, talent and money have recently opened up about their depression and anxiety that social media has given them. Social media, like Instagram, is an excellent tool for an athlete to build their fan base, stay relevant and sell merchandise; making them a lot richer. Yet they still can't protect their mental health from being damaged from the constant criticizing and comparison to another player. N.B.A player has also admitted of becoming addict to their phone. They notice that they don't spend their time talking to each other but instead scrolling through on social media feeds. The league tried to get the players talking to each other by passing out a phone bucket where players must put their phone in. I wonder if in the future there'll be a more massive amount of people attending social media therapy or classes where they have to learn how to be social with each other. It sounds crazy, but by the looks of it, it looks like we are heading into that direction.
