Review: Workout Diary with Food and Exercise Journal Log
Let me be the first to tell you that I wasn’t always as excited about digital fitness trackers as I am now. Being honest I liked to have a workout and diet journal that I could hold in my hand and look over whenever I wanted. It was nice to be able to look back at my progress in the form of books and pages, watching my little victories and successes over time. That’s why even now I always keep a logbook like this Workout Journal with me whenever I go out and get some exercise, not just because it’s nostalgic but because it helps me to not forget to properly track my meals and exercise! My issue with keeping a personal log in something like a spiral not book or a composition book is that I usually forget to include all of my information, but the Workout Journal Workout Diary has space for me to track just about anything I can think of. It provides an area to track my meals, log in my exercises, and even summarize how my diet is going each week. It’s pretty no-nonsense and incredibly practical which is something I really like about it and at just six by nine inches it’s easy to toss in my backpack, gym bag, or even in the back of my car when I go out and I think I might have some extra time to get in some free fitness. The book includes space to track an entire year’s work of meals and exercise so you’ll have more than enough space to watch your progress change and grow while you shed pounds. Being able to keep an entire year in one book means that, when you finally complete it, you can sit down and go over it to see how well you’ve done and how far you’ve come. I still have all of my old weight loss journals, but since they started out just notes in spiral notebooks they’re hard to keep track of and in order. I wish I had had something like this when I first started working out so I could see my weight loss progress neatly laid out. It doesn’t matter if you’re the old fashioned type who likes to take everything down by hand or if you just prefer having a “paper copy” of your logs, this workout journal is the perfect companion for tracking and logging all of your meals and exercise. But the one who don't like this paper work should feel free to go on using the electronic trackers. http://www.slim-fit-well.com/?p=215

Talking to Your Kids About Healthy Living
If you’re already interested in or researching ways to get fit and healthy, then you probably already know about all the benefits you stand to gain from living a healthier lifestyle. That’s great, but for kids it can sometimes be difficult to understand why changes in diet and activity are so important. Particularly with younger children and especially in an age of digital entertainment it’s tough to motivate kids to just play outside and it can be really difficult to introduce healthier foods to picky eaters. That’s why talking to your kids about the importance of living a healthy lifestyle is so important, the earlier the better. The first thing that you want to avoid is talking down to your kids. It can be easy to just take the role of parent and tell them what’s best but kids don’t like being told what to do, especially if it gets in the way of what they’d rather be doing instead. Rather than just saying “I’m the parent and this is what’s happening” try to make them feel equal and involved in the decision making process. If they feel like the decision to live healthier is theirs, they’re more likely to accept healthy changes rather than rebel against them. If they chose the broccoli for dinner then they’re less likely to turn up their nose and leave it sitting on their plate. Remember that you’re not just telling them what the changes around the house are going to be, you’re explaining to them why these changes are going to be good for them and help them to feel better. Obesity and unhealthy habits are quite prevalent in children if left unchecked and it can be dangerous to let bad eating and exercise habits become permanent fixtures in their life. Spending a ton of time in front of the television or computer and eating a bunch of junk food will seem like a good time to them, so explaining to them how it hurts their body might be what it takes to get them on their feet and outside. For older kids getting the message across is easier because they have a greater understanding of how the world works, but this can prove to be challenging for other reasons. I’m sure you remember being a teen yourself, headstrong and always knowing what’s best for yourself. It might seem like what you’re saying goes in one ear and out the other, but don’t give up after just one unsuccessful try. Remember that respect and speaking to them on equal footing goes a long way in helping them to feel involved in the healthy decisions they’re making for their life. In the end how you go about it isn’t nearly as important as making sure you actually do talk to your kids about the importance of eating healthy and getting good exercise. Make sure that you take the time to help them understand the healthy changes you’ll be making together as a family. http://www.slim-fit-well.com/?p=2319

Natural Remedies For Summer Bug Bites
Summer is the time of year when people are out soaking up sun and engaging in fun outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, swimming, taking trips to the beach and exploring other parts of nature. While the warm air, sunny skies, free time may be just what the doctor ordered, summer is also a time when people are most susceptible to bug bites. While virtually harmless, bug bites can be troublesome and painful, too. They can show up just about anywhere on the body and can leave you feeling itchy and sore for days or even weeks, not to mention the unsightly scars they can leave behind. There are plenty of ointments, creams, and sprays available to prevent and treat summer bug bites, but they’re often filled with harsh chemicals that could harm you in the future. For those who don’t want to suffer from their bug bites but also want to avoid chemical treatments, there are natural remedies to try that get the job done well. Try These Natural Remedies 1. Witch Hazel: Witch hazel is a natural astringent, which means it helps to kill bacteria. Some people use witch hazel for acne and blemishes, but it is also incredibly effective for itchy bug bites. Simply soak a cotton ball with witch hazel and daub the affected area. It should relieve pain and itching and also reduce any swelling and inflammation. Witch hazel can be found in your local grocery. 2. Ice (Packs): It may sound simple, but a common ice back can help soothe and heal summer bug bites. To tackle the swelling and itching that may occur from bites, stings, and rashes, apply a homemade ice pack. The best way to do this without causing harm is discomfort is to put some ice in a plastic baggy (or frozen veggies), wrap the pack in a towel, and apply directly to the affected area. The towel should help the skin from getting too cold too quickly, which can lead to pain and further injury. Just the right amount of cold therapy can reduce swelling and soothe itching. 3. Tea Tree Oil: Refreshing and fragrant, tea tree oil is a great for treating itchy, swollen insect bites. Only a little bit of this oil is needed; simply dip a Q-tip or soak a cotton ball and apply directly to the bite. This remedy should take away the itch and pain of most summer bug bites. 4. Corn Starch: Corn starch is one of the most common natural remedies out there. You can make a thick corn starch paste by simply mixing the starch with water and mixing well. Once the mixture is done, apply to the bite or sting and wait for the itch to disappear! 5. Lemon Juice: Fresh juice from a recently cut lemon is a great way to treat painful stings and bites. Cut a slice and place over the bite. It may sting a little at first but the Vitamin C present in this citrus fruit will help reduce pain and promote healing. 6. Garlic: It may sound strange, but garlic is a wonderful way to stop painful insect bites. Simply mash the clove of garlic and rub it directly into the bite. The pain should instantly go away and any swelling should be reduced as well. You may mind the smell, but this one is a quick fix! 7. Toothpaste: For both bug bites and pimples, toothpaste is an effective treatment option. Safe and gentle, toothpaste can dry out inflamed bug bites and reduce swelling. White toothpaste is best, but any type you use can do the trick. 8. Mustard: For poisonous bites and stings, mustard can help draw out any toxins fairly quickly. Ordinary yellow mustard can reduce pain and swelling as well and help the bite heal much more quickly. 9. Charcoal: Pure charcoal can help remove impurities from a summer bug bite by drawing out toxins and venom. Mix the charcoal with a little water until it creates a fine paste. Once done, rub the paste into the bite, then cover with a band aid, and allow it to heal. This should remedy both itching and swelling fairly quickly. 10. Mud: That’s right! Mud is another remedy that is perfect if your bite occurs while out at the beach or when camping. This all natural remedy helps stop itching and swelling and creates a sort of natural band aid to protect the bite from further irritants. When rubbed into the bite, it brings relief very quickly. http://www.slim-fit-well.com/?p=3181

Finding Your Motivation to Lose Weight
It can be difficult to start a weight loss plan, but getting started is generally the hardest part. You know you need to get in better shape and lose those extra pounds, but having the desire and motivation to do so can keep you from it. The thing to do is find a good reason, one that motivates you, one that will help you stick to the plan. Here are a few to help you get started. Look good for an upcoming event. This can be any event that drives you to workout and eat less. Whether it's your anniversary, an office party, or a high school reunion. Using these events as a motivator can often keep you from slacking off or quitting. Choose an event that's still a few months away so you have time to work towards it. Run or walk a charity marathon. If you can't find the motivation for yourself, you can always choose to prepare for a marathon. Getting involved in one that's for a good cause is a great motivator. You can set aside your personal feelings, doubts and dislike of exercising when you know that you're working towards something that is meaningful to you and will benefit a great organization like cancer or abused children. Get ready for a beach vacation. If you're planning a vacation, especially to the beach, this can motivate you to get the pounds off. It doesn't have to be a beach, but planning a vacation anywhere is a good reason to want to get in shape. Your ideal vacation may include plenty of walking tours and you want to be able to keep up and not feel so worn out. Starting an exercise program a few months before your vacation is a great way to ensure you can keep up, have a good time and look good in that new vacation wardrobe. A new wardrobe. You don't have to go on vacation to want a new wardrobe, just wanting some new clothes for the sake of looking nice and thinner is a great motivator. If you're tired of shopping in larger sizes and can't find anything cute in your size, this is a good reason to start and stick with an exercise program and better eating plan. Maybe you need something a little more exciting to motivate you, maybe you like a good competition or you want to be a little vengeful with your reasons. If this drives you to succeed, then go for it. Some things you may want to consider as motivators include: * Making your ex jealous - If you know you'll see your ex in the future or if you have children and see your ex on a regular basis. Losing weight and looking good to make them a bit jealous may be a great way to motivate yourself. It doesn't have to be your ex spouse either. It can be an ex friend or a co-worker that you don't like. * Winning a bet with someone - Having a bet with someone is another great motivator. This works especially well if you can compete with someone you aren't all that fond of. It can be a co-worker, your mother-in-law or father-in-law or even a sister or brother in law. Whoever you choose to bet with needs to be someone that you're around from time to time. * To show off in front of your spouse - If your spouse has picked on you about your weight or if you spouse needs to lose some extra pounds too, this is a great way to keep your momentum going and it might even spark their desire to lose weight too. Whatever reason you choose to lose weight and get in better shape, make sure it's something that will motivate you on a daily basis. Use your reason to catapult your success and to get you off your butt and do the work necessary to achieve your goal. http://www.slim-fit-well.com/?p=2047

5 Risky Behaviors That Can Harm Your Health
Many people are searching for ways to live healthier. Most know that this can easily be achieved through proper nutrition and regular exercise. However, there are also other factors that have an effect on your health, and some are maybe easily overlooked. Here are 5 risky behaviors that can harm your health. Smoking It’s no secret that smoking kills. Despite the fact that people are aware of all the health risks associated with smoking, many still do it. It is without a doubt one of the unhealthiest habits in today’s society. This habit can literally cost you your life. While lung cancer is often associated as the most significant risk with smoking, in fact there are many other conditions that are caused by cigarettes that can debilitate and result in premature death. Some of the most notable health risks associated with smoking include respiratory problems, such as chronic bronchitis, kidney cancer, leukemia, infertility, stomach cancer, oral cancer, throat cancer, and an increased risk of stroke and heart disease. Excessive Drinking Alcohol is a substance that is meant to be consumed in moderation. Did you know that alcohol is actually considered poison by the body? This is why the body prioritizes its metabolization before anything else. Having a drink with your friends once in a while or a glass of wine with dinner is totally acceptable and actually good for the heart. However, if you start drinking in excess and especially as a coping mechanism for problems in your life, then you’re going to be facing a much bigger problem. Many people overlook the risks that go along with excessive drinking, even though there are a lot of them. Some of the best known health risks of alcoholism include dementia, colon cancer, liver disease, stroke, depression, liver cancer, hepatitis, anxiety and premature death, just to name a few. Eating In Front Of The TV This is something that many people do, but while it can greatly contribute to poor health maybe easily overlooked. Instead of taking the time to really enjoy their food, most people would rather wolf it down while watching a movie or TV show. However, there are several health risks that are associated with this activity. First off, it will draw all your attention to the TV instead of your food, which will make you eat more than you should or normally would simply because you do not pay attention to how much you have eaten. You will be so distracted by what you’re watching that you won’t even see how much you’ve eaten until it’s all gone. If you enjoy eating junk food while watching TV, then you will most likely form a habit of doing this, which means that you will bring a few snacks with you every time you want to watch something, even when you’re not particularly hungry. Drinking Calories Nowadays, many people find water to be boring, so they avoid drinking it every chance they get. This has been made worse with many companies now making flavored water. Nevertheless, soda is still the most famous substitute for water, even though it is loaded with calories, sugar, and chemicals. Not only are these beverages filled with sugar and unhealthy chemicals, but they will also make you drink your calories instead of eating them, adding inches to your waistline, and getting nothing in the way of nutrients for your body. The next time you want to buy a can of soda, make sure to think twice about whether you really need those extra calories. Having Too Much Junk Food Having too much junk food in your house is a bad idea. Simply by knowing that you can get a junk food snack anytime you want will make it hard for you to resist the temptation to indulge in unhealthy foods. It’s always easier to grab a bag of chips than to cook a healthy meal in order to satisfy your hunger. However, this will only make you lead an unhealthy lifestyle. Instead, you should throw away all of that junk food and keep healthy stuff on hand. http://www.slim-fit-well.com/?p=3212

Bringing Your Diet with You
When you’re on a diet or working with a structured weight loss plan it’s easy to watch and manage these things at home, but it’s a different story when you’re out and about either travelling for the holidays or simply going out for yourself. When we talk about bringing your diet with you it means not just leaving your healthy meal plans and your smart portioning at home when you step out the door, you’re taking everything you’re doing to manage your eating and your weight with you wherever you go. This can be particularly difficult if you have a lot of stops to make this fall and winter for the holidays. The first thing you should do if you have any particularly stringent dietary restrictions is to let the hosts of the parties you’ll be attending know ahead of time. Keeping a dialogue open with them from the beginning will help them to plan what foods they prepare ahead of time. Of course you don’t want to come in and try to steamroll their whole meal, but just letting them know “Hey, I was hoping maybe you could prepare a low fat/carb option” ahead of time can make a huge difference. If changing up the meal plan is going to be a problem for the host, then consider giving them a helping hand and bringing something to the party yourself! This is an especially great idea for potluck and office parties where everyone brings a little something to the table. That way you know that something you won’t have any problems eating is going to be available and you get a chance to share something you love with your friends, family, and coworkers. For people planning and hosting parties nothing takes a load off of their shoulders like finding out that one of the dishes for the meal is already covered, just make sure you let them know ahead of time that you’re bringing something so they can plan for it. Even if you don’t or aren’t able to bring something healthy to eat with you or have something available that will fit well into your diet that doesn’t mean you can’t go anywhere this holiday season! Being well informed is important when it comes to losing weight so arm yourself with the ever important tool of nutritional info. Try keeping a short list of the nutritional facts for popular holiday foods or even get a list of what will be on the menu from the host while you’re chatting with them. Then you’ll know what’s “safe” to eat and how much so you don’t overindulge (which even then is fine within reason). If you have a phone with web available then you can nutritionally fact check on the spot! Don’t worry about bringing your diet with you like unwanted luggage this holiday season, pack it up and carry it neatly at your side by being prepared! http://www.slim-fit-well.com/?p=2411

How Can I Tell If I am Falling for A Fad Diet?
The world of dieting can be a difficult and confusing one to traverse. Unless you’re carefully picking and choosing your sources, you run the risk of being bombarded with incorrect and sometimes even downright false information with the intent of making a quick buck. There are a ton of reputable, worthwhile structured diets that can earn you real progress but for every good diet out there you’ll run into a dozen that are cash driven pitfalls. If you’re worried about falling for a fad diet instead of settling on something that really works, take a minute to think about these points. 1. Does the diet focus on one single aspect? Pay close attention to whether or not your diet of choice is focusing really hard on a single point or aspect of your diet. A healthy and successful diet is well-rounded and will incorporate all the different facets of weight loss in order to be successful. Any diet that just focuses on burning calories or managing nutritional content is only looking for short term progress. 2. Is it trying to sell you a miracle tool? This is a common one when it comes to the weight loss industry. A lot of companies try to prey on people who are incredibly busy and just want to lose weight quickly. They’ll advertise a miracle herb, pill, powder, or piece of equipment that will magically help you to lose weight with little to no effort. The worst part is that sometimes these things work, there are pills out there that burn off water weight for quick and easy pounds that will come right back after you’ve spent the money and taken the pill. Hard work is the key to successful healthy lifestyle changes, don’t trust any diet that comes in pill form. 3. Are the promises they’re making realistic? Just like miracle tool salesmen, another angle to approach from is promising that you’ll lose a huge amount of weight in a short period of time. They’re trying to target people looking to lose weight in a hurry for a big event like a wedding, party, vacation, etc. The average healthy and sustainable rate of weight loss is roughly two pounds per week. Some diets promise progress like “20 pounds in your first month!” which is indeed possible but it works on the same principle as burning easy fat pounds and water weight. These diets won’t help you in the long term and they’re definitely not teaching you the sustainable practices that you’ll need to lose weight seriously. Weight loss needs to be taken seriously if you want to really lose those pounds. Letting yourself get sidetracked with fad diets is a waste of money, time, and effort that could have been spent on bettering your life through healthy lifestyle change. So the next time you see a diet that you’re curious about, ask yourself if it’s really possible or if it’s just too good to be true (which it probably is)! I wish you all the best results for a healthy weight loss. Warm Regards Benno Siegrist http://www.slim-fit-well.com/?p=869
