Hobbies For Kids
490 posts
Hobbies are an excellent way for children to learn as they play. When a child takes part in an activity, such as sports, or even rock collecting, they are developing new skill sets. When your child learns new facts, or skill sets, they are developing avenues of growth and development. This in turn gives the child a sense of pride and accomplishment. One of the main tools that an adult needs when they are succeeding in life, and in their careers, is an innate sense of pride and confidence. There is a saying that goes, "Winning breeds confidence. Losing breeds competence". In order to be fully formed adults, children need avenues to learn confidence, and competence. Hobbies provide both of these because in the course of learning something new, the child won't be good at it at first. Hobbies for kids also breed new interest. Some people get frustrated with their kids when they seem to switch from one hobby to another. Don't ever get frustrated when this happens. Your child needs to try on several hobbies before they figure out what really moves them. Or, maybe your child is multi-talented, and they need to channel their energy into several hobbies in order to feel fulfilled. Look at it this way; at least something is grabbing their attention that is positive. So if your child doesn't settle down on one hobby, be grateful that they are able to develop many different kids hobbies and interest.

BRCA Clubmans Rd3 WLRC – Report
Round 3 of the BRCA Clubman’s was hosted at West London Racing Centre in Hillingdon last weekend. The weather fortunately held out for this meeting with torrential rain predicted, which only arrived once some excellent racing had finished. With a very good entry of 43 drivers in the 17.5 Blinky class we were in for some close racing with many of the country’s top drivers present. Schumacher driver Andy Murray was the man to beat, but after taking 3 round wins he was proving unstoppable as he lined up P1 for the final. After 2 torrid A final legs it was a clean sweep for Andy making it a perfect day’s racing taking the win ahead of the Xray’s of Ben Cane and Soteris Lisai.
In the Frontie class Craig Nutting topped the time sheets in qualifying to take pole position for the 2 leg A finals. He would never look back as Mark Burgess and Gavin Clinch battled without for the second spot on the podium. It would be Mark that took that spot with Gav having trouble getting back past the rest of the pack after an earlier mishap with a corner.
Formula One saw Luke Lee take yet another pole position on the A final grid. This time his brother Michael would stop him from having the perfect qualifying session when he took the round 1 win in damp conditions. But once we had a dry track there was no stopping Luke, especially in the finals where he led both legs from flag to flag. Michael backed up his qualifying pace with 2 second places with James Greener following him home to round out the top 3.
WLRC put on yet another faultless meeting which ran like clockwork, we even finished and packed away before a thunder storm hit the track just before the presentations. Next up the BRCA Clubman’s travels East to the Monaco of RC tracks at Coastal Model Car Club in Ipswich.
Thanks to Mark Young for the report.

Exotek Racing 22S pro steering set & slipper eliminator
Exotek Racing have produced two new items for the Losi 22S drag racer. First up is this precision pro style steering set, designed with a beefier structure and engineered to have the most precision. This is down to the robust 7075 alloy design that incorporates an additional 4 bearings to connect the steering drag link, instead of the nylon cup, which now eliminates all flex and slop. The set also includes crush sleeves that goes between the bearings which help prolong the bearings life and maintains precise fit and operation of the rack. The second new item is their ultra-light direct spur gear mount which is a machined alloy unit that weighs only 3.6gr with the screws. Using a wider range of available spur gear sizes by Exotek, Kimbrough, etc., it allows for easy switching between a locked spur or the stock slipper as track conditions warrant.

Pro-Line Convict 1/8th buggy race tire
Introducing the all-new Convict 1:8 Buggy race tire that represents Pro-Line’s next-generation version of the World Champion Fugitive tire. The Fugitive was developed to be the longest-lasting race tire ever produced and it proved that by winning the World Championship in the harshest condition while still having tread leftover. But for most racetracks and in most conditions, you just don’t need that much tread. Enter the new Convict, a lightweight and more versatile version of the popular Fugitive. Made from Pro-Line’s latest generation carcass shape for improved bump handling and features smaller and more spaced-out tread, so it has the speed for qualifying while still having the right amount of tread to last long main events. Strategically placed small connecting bars improve the stability of the tire tread, which is especially important when used in softer compounds.

Pro-Line 1972 Ford Pinto clear body
Pro-Line have introduced the first subcompact car that Ford ever produced that went on to become an iconic Pro Stock car from the ’70s in full-size racing, the 1972 Ford Pinto. To make the Pinto as scale as possible relative to Pro-Line’s other Drag Bodies, Pro-Line is launching a new subcompact drag class using the Bandit, AE SR10, or other 11.25″ wheelbase 2wd Buggies fitted with drag racing wheels and tires. This new size opens the door to bring new people into the world of drag racing using a chassis platform that many people already own. All the iconic details from the original 1972 Pinto have been faithfully recreated in 1/10 size that looks incredible with big drag tires. The front end of the body features massive undercut details including the classic hexagon-shaped headlight bezel just like the full-size car, which is only made possible with Pro-Line’s proprietary moulding technology. The body comes clear giving you the option to paint the body however you desire.

BRCA 1/8 Circuit Halifax Rd3 – Report
The newly resurfaced Halifax circuit hosted round 3 of the BRCA 1/8 Circuit series, the new surface and facilities providing the UK with a circuit up there with the best in Europe thanks to all the hard work of John Russell and club members. Many drivers had arrived before the weekend to test on the new surface with a mixed forecast due, Saturday morning saw downpours resulting in controlled practice being turned into open practice as it began to dry mid-way through the afternoon. Drivers managed to all get a few dry runs in later on and it was usual guys at the front with many different chassis being used in the Nitro class such as Serpent, Capricorn, Shepherd, Mugen, ARC and Xray. The Electric class is still being dominated by Capricorn and Serpent but was good to see Bob Harley running Xray. Around 40 drivers were competing at this event.
Race Day began dry for the practice round but unfortunately there was another downpour with most drivers sitting out the first couple of rounds. Only Mark Green and Rob Mckenna ran in round one while the track was completely wet, by round two it was slightly better with Neil Wallace venturing out in Electric and Rob Mckenna went quickest in the nitro class from Jack Brann both running Mugen chassis. Round three the track was damp and majority of the drivers went out and the times were falling, Alex Thurston, Andrew Hastings and Karl Dransfield topped the times. In Electric it was Michael Walton, Bob Harley and Kieran Adamson in the top 3.
So it came to the final round with conditions almost fully dry and no room for mistake as we use FTD qualifying, in Electric the order stayed pretty much the same with Michael, Kieran and Bob Harley the top 3. Heat two it was Steve Davis setting the pace from Jon Withington and Ralph Crampton all on 15 laps, Jon Melton the clear winner of heat 3 as others made mistakes in the slightly slippery conditions. In heat 4 the pace was much quicker with 17 laps Niall Cochran, John Carr with Rob Scott and Steve Smith doing enough to also book places in the A-final. In the top heat Alex secured FTD from Karl, Tim Wood took third with Andrew Hastings, Mark Green and David Spashett also doing enough to claim A-final spots.
In the Electric finals Michael Walton (Serpent) dominated the three legs with Bob Harley chasing (Xray) and Lee Henson taking a well-deserved third (Capricorn).
The 30 minute A-final was lead off by Alex Thurston with Karl Dransfield in second for the opening minutes, Tim Wood and Andrew Hastings were to come through while Mark Green did the best he could using his wet car. Alex was able to drive consistently keeping out of trouble to take the win for Capricorn a lap in front of Tim (Shepherd) and Andy (Mugen), unfortunately Tim was to lose his second after scrutineering promoting Andy H up to second and Mark Green third. We are off to Wombwell near Barnsley for round 4 24/25th July see you there.
In the C final Rob Mckenna (Mugen) won by 2 laps from Criag Illingworth and newcomer Aadil Mughai took third. The B final was a race of attrition, Jon Withington (Xray) was left out on his own and able to take the win by some 5 laps as others had problems, Ralph Crampton (Shepherd) took a fine second as he settles back into racing and Jack Brann took third having shown good pace but had some issues later on in the race.
Nitro A Final 1. Alex Thurston (Capricorn) – 124 laps 2. Andrew Hastings (Mugen) – 121 laps 3. Mark Green (Serpent) – 120 laps
Electric A Final 1. Michael Walton (Serpent) 2. Bob Harley (Xray) 3. Lee Henson (Capricorn)
Nitro B Final 1. Jon Withington (Xray) 2. Ralph Crampton (Shepherd) 3. Jack Brann (Mugen)
Nitro C-final 1. Rob Mckenna (Mugen) 2. Craig Illingworth (Serpent) 3. Aadil Mughai (Serpent)
