Next level of certificates :PSM  VS CSM
Next level of certificates: PSM  VS CSM
What Next after CSM Certification-
Advanced Certified Scrum Master
Once you have one year of experience in playing the role of Scrum Master after your CSM, you can go for Advanced-Certified Scrum Master (A-CSM). A-CSM requires at least 16 hours of interaction with a CST or CEC.
Certified Scrum Professional - Scrum Master (CSP-SM):-
After two years of playing the role of Scrum Master, you can go for Certified Scrum Professional-Scrum Master (CSP-SM). CSP-SM also requires at least 16 hours of interaction with a CST or CEC.
If you introduced Scrum at a team level on two occasions, you could apply for Certified Team Coach(CTC). CTC requires getting a recommendation from the team, stakeholders, and an interview process with a panel.
If you introduced Scrum at an Enterprise Level, either a Business Unit or a Company on two occasions, you could apply for Certified Enterprise Coach(CEC). CEC requires getting a recommendation from the team, stakeholders, and an interview process with a panel.
What Next after PSM-I Certification:
There are three levels PSM-I, PSM-II, and PSM-III. All three levels have online tests and assessments.
Professional Scrum Mater-I (PSM-I):-
Professional Scrum Master (PSM) is an entry-level certification for the Scrum Masters. It is a 2-day course that covers the Agile Manifesto, Principles, Scrum Framework, and the role of Scrum Master in Scrum.
One can attend the 2-day classroom training conducted by a Professional Scrum Trainer (PST) but isn't mandatory. You can take up the examination directly if you are well-versed with Scrum and the role of Scrum Master.
There are mock quizzes for PSM-I that one can take up before attempting the PSM exams. These quizzes will help the participants to clear up PSM-I exams. Leanpitch has mock quizzes for PSM certification, which helps aspirants to try several quizzes before taking up the actual PSM exams.
Professional Scrum Mater-II (PSM-II):-
This certification is for the Scrum Masters who wish to demonstrate his or her ability to apply the Scrum framework to solving advanced, complex problems in the real world. One needs to have advanced knowledge in Scrum, Scrum Master, and experience.
PSM-II is advanced compared to PSM-I. For those who are attempting PSM-II, PSM-I is mandatory. Just like PSM-I, attending a classroom session is not compulsory. If you think you are at an advanced level in Scrum and Scrum Master, you can directly take up PSM-II.
Professional Scrum Mater-III (PSM-III):-
This certification is for those who have a distinguished level of understanding of Scrum and Mastery in it. Those who have completed PSM-III can mentor and coach people and teams who are adopting Scrum. Clearing PSM-III need in-depth knowledge and understanding of Scrum.
Those who clear PSM-III have a deeper understanding of Scrum framework, values, and ability to implement Scrum in complex product contexts. Just like PSM-II, it is not mandatory to attend a classroom session to appear for the exam.

Certification Process:PSM vs CSM
Certification Process:PSM vs CSM
Process for
CSM Certification
There are three steps to get a CSM certificate
You need to attend at least two full-day workshops from a Certified Scrum Trainer(CST). If not, you need to get coached for 40 hours by a Certified Enterprise Coach (CEC) at your workplace. The purpose behind this is to ensure that you understand Scrum well.
Trainers and coaches assess your knowledge and then recommend your name to Scrum Alliance by enabling your test.
You take the test, and if you pass the test, you get the certificate immediately.
The Certified Scrum Master certification process fulfills the first principle of the Agile Manifesto, individuals, and interaction over processes and tools.
Process for PSM Certification:
There is just one step for getting PSM certification. You can buy an assessment on scrum.org and take it online from anywhere. There is no need to attend any workshop or get coached. Although there are programs run by Scrum.org for PSM.
Exam/Test Structure: PSM vs CSM
CSM Exam structure-
For CSM, there are 50 questions that you need to answer in 60 minutes.
So you get a little more than a minute to think and respond. You need to answer 37 questions right to pass the test.
PSM Exam structure-
For PSM, you need to answer 80 questions in 60 minutes. Unfortunately, you get less than a minute to read, comprehend, and answer a question

Sprint Retrospective
Sprint Retrospective
Scrum stands tall on three main pillars and they are Inspect, Adapt and Transparency. Every event in Scrum is an opportunity to inspect and adapt. Frequently inspect and adapt helps the Scrum Team to create an empirical process. Scrum also says that too much of inspect and adapt should not get in the way of creating a “done” product increment. Sprint Retrospective is a formal opportunity for the Scrum Team to inspect everything that happened in the Sprint and create a plan to improve and implement during the sprint.
Product Management Bootcamp
Learning and improvement is continuous. Scrum believes in continuous learning and continuous improvement. There is no ultimate state that one has reached, there is always further and beyond. If a Scrum Team thinks that they have reached a state where they do not have to improve anymore, then their stagnancy starts there. Stagnancy leads to a state of worsening. Teams should always find ways and means to improve themselves, their ways of working, processes, tools and basically everything.
Who attends the Sprint Retrospective?
The Scrum Team as a whole attend the Sprint Retrospective event. It is not just the Development Team who should improve themselves, it is also the Scrum Master and the Product Owner as well. Everyone in the Scrum Team should inspect the Sprint as a whole and adapt to the improvements.

The role of Tester in Scrum Team
The role of Tester in Scrum Team
The role of a tester in the Scrum Team is elementary and straightforward but often misjudged. There are only three roles in Scrum, and they hold different responsibilities. The tester is part of the cross-functional development team. The role of a tester is to contribute to the product quality just like any other development team member.
Product Management Bootcamp
Who is a Tester?
A tester is a person who is responsible for identifying the process to test the product and ensures that the product meets its specifications or requirements. Testers are "Customer Advocates" because they use and test the products from the customer perspective. They are responsible for finding out defects or bugs in the product, which is under test and thereby helping to improve the product quality. They are User proxies who are responsible for ensuring the product under development solves the problem of the users in the context they use.
Wrong Assumption of Tester role:
Testers get misjudged as "Gate Keepers" of quality for a very long time. Its a myth. In many projects, only when the testers/testing team approves, the project will be released. They were also considered as "Quality Police" and treated as such in the product development. There were even stories of Testers stopping a release by giving a "No-Go" because of few bugs not fixed by the programmers. These are all myths or wrong understanding about the role of testers. Right from defining the requirements, programming, testing, deploying, staging, and maintenance, everyone is responsible for product quality and not just testers.

Planning
Planning
In this stage, the coach, along with the representatives of the client groups, plan the coaching activities. The coach meets with the individual team members and encourages them to share as much information as they can. Team members will be able to provide more details when they come for a one-on-one meeting with the coach. The team wouldn't share information around the presence of their leader, and it is necessary to engage them alone.
For teams that have sub-teams, representatives from each team will get included for planning activities.
Product Management Bootcamp
Tentative Contracting
The Coach and the client groups work together to come up with a tentative contract after planning for the activities. The tentative agreement is to understand and commit to the conditions of the relationship. The agreement has to be in writing for all the parties to read and understand. The primary purpose of the contract is to build the relationship through agreed working agreements.

Perspective
What is perspective?
A perspective is an attitude or an approach towards how one sees or thinks. It is also about an individual's ability to look at things which are also called a point of view. Naturally, when someone looks at something, they perceive it based on their experience, beliefs, morals, values, and so on. It is an interesting study to put something on the table and let people get a perspective out of it.
There was an old chef. He made good tasty food. Everyone in the town loved the man’s food. He has 3 sons. All of them got their culinary skills from their father. Since it was a family run business whatever they cooked was that of their father’s recipe and taste. Everything was good as the town people liked their food so much.
Product Management Bootcamp
But the son’s did not know anything outside of the Oldman’s recipe. Just like any experienced businessman does, the Oldman decided to send his sons off to work outside the town and come back after 5 years. Five years were up and they all came back.
Now when they wanted to cook their father’s basic recipe, they have three different ways of cooking them now. They didn’t know what the original recipe was. The Oldman asked them to cook the recipe in their own way and present it to him. They cooked and presented it to the old man. He tasted them all and they all tasted good but it wasn’t the original recipe at all.

What Scrum event can be removed?
What Scrum event can be removed?
One of the questions often asked in Scrum Master's interview is, "If you have to remove a Scrum event, what would that be?"
Product Management Bootcamp
As the team gets more self-organizing, the Sprint planning meeting at the start of the Sprint can be worked around through the Daily Stand-up. But the team needs to have reached that stage. However, grooming (backlog refinement) sessions would still continue since the dev team still needs to get the business and market perspective from PO.
Every event of Scrum has been defined for a particular purpose. And none of it is negotiable or replaceable. In interview questions, it's fine to stick to one's ground. By replacing a scrum ceremony/event, you are actually telling the interviewer that you are willing to compromise on the ethos and objectives of Scrum. And you are quite flexible...and for you, Scrum doesn't mean anything.

The Framework
The Framework
Take the example of constructing a house. Consider, an under-construction house is handed over to you with the foundation and pillar set. You can start building it further with the groundwork laid, but you cannot begin living in the house.
Product Management Bootcamp
You will need walls, rooms, interiors, and furniture to live in. You will be provided with the guidelines to construct the rooms, windows, etc. The choice of building it as per your choice in making it a better place to live in lies with you.
You have the groundwork, guidelines, and choice. How it turns out to be lies in the hands of you. That's called a framework.
Scrum is a framework, which can be used by product development teams to self-organize to solve complex and adaptive problems. The idea is to build complex products.

Non-Violent Communication(NVC)
Non-Violent Communication (NVC) is a Communication framework which offers a space to collaborate most effectively. It’s a compassionate communication where you try to build connection and trust by offering safe space just like Scrum team runs a safe to fail experiments called Sprint. Before jumping into how to adopt NVC at the workplace or to oneself or in a relationship, let’s take a peek into the basics of NVC.
NVC skills are the most tangible skills which will have the highest impact and is game-changing when applied and practiced effectively. It changes the way we look at the world and handle situations more effectively. I would like to start with a statement quoted by Thom Bond an NVC Trainer.
Product Management Bootcamp
“Everything we do, everything you have ever done, Everything I have ever done, everything we ever are going to do, and everything ever any human being will ever do is all done for one reason.” i.e We are trying to meet our needs.
We have been habituated from infancy to look at the world through the lens of Judgement to meet our needs. The Judgement come in all forms like
We do certain things that make us good
If we do certain things that make us evil.
If we do it this way it is right
If we do the other way it is wrong
We do things because we should
We should not do things this way since it’s not accepted etc..
These Perspectives that we carry on with us from our young age keeps us occluded from the new learnings, accept the emerging organizational behavior changes and stops us from collaboration.
What NVC teaches us is to translate our Judgement thoughts to our needs thoughts which is a solution-oriented communication. It encourages us to share the views openly and frankly and hear/understand others view clearly.

Training your Subconscious
Training your Subconscious
Hope you have read the previous blog about “Its all in your brain“. If you haven’t, read it before you continue reading this. Are you expecting a movie scene about sitting on a chair on a quiet room, closing eyes, slowly travelling to get your subconscious mind and being a mind controller? You need to stop watching movies as we are not going to do any of those.
We know now that subconscious mind is the master with a wand which controls your habits. Your subconscious mind understands your regular routine. Anything you do against it, requires so much effort and energy. Going out of the routine and changing something requires high energy and your subconscious is sceptic about it. That is why change is not possible without a need or a purpose. Purpose acts as a driving force in bringing a change.
Product Management Bootcamp
Are you someone who is looking to reduce weight, go to gym regularly or would like to jog everyday but still ending up snoozing your alarm? Then you need to rethink if that is what your need is. Most of the time, we end up doing something just because others do it. We might not want it but still want to do for the sake of it. It is impossible to get yourself committed towards that.
If subconscious mind is responsible for the habits I have, how will I change a habit? If you are planning to start a tremendous change suddenly and drastically, then it might be difficult to implement. If you succeed in implementing it, you will not be able to sustain the change. That’s because your routine is different and your conscious is struggling to make sense of it. How to do it then? Start small. One good thing I have learned over the period is to switch to trivial things whenever you are going to perform something from your routine. I know its still confusing and so I will explain with an example.
