Social Media and futur communication
As every new concept social media were, at the beginning, not popular. Now a day for most of us it is a part of the routine to use them. New tools are added very often on different platform such as lives on Facebook or Instagram. They are used to talk and chat with people in real time. A few years back it would have even been possible to think about some tools like Facetime or video chat via our smartphone. We are now able to talk with the entire world without limit of participant in live time. This dispositive is only able to transcribe us the imagine seen by the camera. A step further we can find the Virtual Reality Chat (VR chat). For using it you need a VR headset, you are using it like glasses, and it will open it front of you a new world moving with your movement. Other people from all around the world can join the room and interact with each other.
For now, the social medias are not physical, but the next step might be a dispositive allowing you to feel a touch for example. Social medias are always looking to push the communication one step forward and it is sometimes a war of idea and development. We can take the example of snapchat and Instagram they both added to their platform the concept of “stories” (sharing a picture or video for a 24 hours’ time before it disappears). Because the concept of snapchat is the erasing of message and pictures you can send right after they have been opened, Instagram using stories have been a plagiarism. Even though for most of the social media platforms, they are all having a quite different purpose to reach a specific type of users.
As social medias we can also talk about music stream platforms. If we take YouTube for example at its creation t was mostly video clip of songs and today it is not what makes the most view on it. Because people are not really looking anymore that much at video clips, they just want to enjoy the music. They have been so redirected to other medias like SoundCloud or Spotify on which you can follow your favourite artist and be notify of their news. You can also create playlist and share them with the world. Lately a new type of concept has exploded on those platforms, the podcasts, People can now share ideas and stories with only a soundtrack, people can react and share it on other social media. In the future we should be ready to see all the different social medias link between them without any big separation anymore.
The future of communication is very inequal around the world. For some country like England, it is normal to have a smartphone and most of the population is possessing one. Nonetheless the evolution of communication might be blurry for some other people for who it is already complicated to communicated. For some country facing wars or dictatures where it is not even possible to send letters, being able to see someone on the other face of the world might be a huge innovation.

Social Medias and their impact on language and literacy
Social Media and their massive use especially by the youngest generation has been a concern for a lot of linguists. Professor Yvonne Kelly has been studying this affect by comparing the amount of time spent on social Medias and the literacy of young people. According to her the problem is not the social medias themselves but the time they are consuming and the distraction from other thing that may improve their literacy. She is saying “We looked at whether the more time young people spend on social media, the less time they have for the things that might improve their literacy such as reading for enjoyment and doing homework,” (Pr. Yvonne Kelly, briannegatehouse, 2021).
At the beginning of the 21st century with the spread of mobile phone, the users started to use text message instead of letters and calls. Nonetheless at the time mobile phones were small and the touches of the letters were usually regrouped (abc, def, ghi…). Texting was then time consuming. It has been natural that people tried to find a way to be understood without having to write a full word which would take too long. It is the beginning of the use of abbreviation in texting messages. The first concern of linguists about the democratisation of shorten words was that people would not pay attention to the context where it is appropriate to use them or not. In a professional e-mail it would be impossible to use such words as abbreviations but because of their democratisation people could use them as usual words. It has also revealed a concern about the development of lexis and the orthograph of the words. Not using a word fully might lead to the oversight of the right orthograph of it.
The creation of automatic corrector at the beginning of the 90’s amplified this fear. As a matter of fact, these new tools allowed people to write words s they think while being corrected without even noticing they used the wrong spelling. As a part of literacy, we also count the punctuation. Now a day on a social media post or a text message it is rare to add the correct punctuation. It is for most of us use to emphasize the ton of voice we want to share. For example, adding an exclamation mark to show your excitement or a question mark at the end of a question. In a casual talk most people will just write the message without using comas or full stops at the end the sentence, although they are part of a sentence structure.
Nonetheless a study of the Pew research centre showed that 78 per cent of the teacher interrogated agreed that the use of social media can encourage student to personal expression. (Is social media destroying our ability to write?, 2021). This demonstrate that even though the orthograph might have been impact in the wrong way, social medias opened a world of self-expression and encourage writing to a large number of people.

Social media, its affordances and my daily life
Social Media, its affordances, and my daily life
Social medias are a form of platforms allowing people to communicate, usually from all around the world, and share information. The definition of social media is to create relation between people; this is their main purpose. At first social medias like Facebook were mainly used to find your friends and discussing with them even if they are on the other side of the world; those platforms also allow you to post pictures or write public messages. Everyone can almost post everything on any platform of their choice; you can have access to all the information shared by someone on their page.
The medias are nonetheless aware that some of their user might want more privacy and not wanting to share their daily life with everyone. Therefore, these applications give the possibility to select who can access your profile in order to protect the privacy of your account. Another action taken to protect the privacy of your profile is to get the user to accept who can follow and access your account; facebook and Instagram are just a few examples of social media platform doing this. Social medias can be for sure used by any individual to share a part of their daily life; like posting picture of a trip or talking about an opinion they have. They are also used by companies to reach a maximum of potential customers and use the applications to promote themselves and advertise. As it is accessible to everyone even non-profit companies can find affordance of social media as a way to make people aware of the goals they are attempting to reach. To separate the different types of users you are able on platforms to declare yourself as a public figure, a company, or a private user. With that panel of possibilities, the app can understand your purpose on the platform and propose different profiles or tools to help you grow your account. These types of medias have created tools to help the users reach more people or create contact with others; a few examples are hashtags, location pins or promotion of picture like on Instagram.
Social medias, nowadays, are mainly used by people to share their interests and their life; they are also used as a form of entertainment to watch videos and use platforms such as youtube. Currently there are many social medias that are very different between themselves depending on the goals they are aiming for; an example is Pinterest that is used only to share photographs. Another significant use of social media is as a distraction, especially for the youngest generations. They are not interested on finding a way to talk with people because they are born with all the tools they could need directly including smartphones or any other devices. While the older generations are more interested in keeping in touch with family members or old friends. Both options are possible thanks to the affordances that social medias are proposing nowadays.
