Joe just hummed, still on the crutches, leaning against the foot of his bed. His eyes were bright, where they stayed on George, something warm that he maybe wasn’t used to, anymore.

“Sure seems like it.” He said, and George couldn’t help his smile, not something happy but not miserable, either. “You got any reason to stick around?”

George snorted, shrugged a shoulder. He twisted his lips into what little of a grin he could muster, chest still something close to aching. He tried to think of a joke, came up short and instead just looked somewhere vaguely over his shoulder.

“Not if you’re coming with me.” He said, maybe more serious than he’d meant.
