i was going to write a massive post about the importance of the raft of medusa painting in hyyh and its relevance to seokjin and changjuns narrative and how its meaning and impact changes as the plot progresses but im so insane about the topic that i couldnt get it out in legible words that would make sense to anyone except me. but. just know that is in my brain constantly and i need everyone else to think about it also

TXT12 CONFIRMED LORE RELATED i mean obviously it was gonna touch on it in some capacity but from the way tyun spoke it sounds like we might be back to the full concept film/10min mv style lore which would be super fun (and also vindicating for my petty ass whos been annoyed at people claiming the lore finished w tomorrow lmfao)
extremely excited to see where the lore goes with the announcement of txts full album comeback in july, for my moarmys out there narratively i feel we are about to enter the equivalent of notes 2 (we've addressed the initial problem but we havent solved the broader situation as a whole)
im hoping for alice in wonderland for the book concept because i think thatd fit well narratively w what we have now (suddenly realising u dont belong in the wonderland, metaphorically turns literally not fitting in the increasingly nonsensical world around you now that you have seen through the lies you were blinded by) but bighit has suprised me before with even MORE fitting book concepts i never even considered see: sanctuary and the snow queen

anytime i see someone bash begins youth for its portrayal of hyyh yoonkook i sigh so hard "they made it homophobic" "they cut their queer coding" etcetc no they fucking didn't id argue that b≠y portrays their dynamic a lottt closer to canon than fanon hyyh yoonkok in 90% of posts about them
jeha is the most hyyh jungkook to ever hyyh jungkook i truly believe he is the most accurately written member of the cast aside from maybe hwan (they are all written incredibly well though) his obsessive girlfriend schtick with cein is both so reminiscent of the themes of hyyh yoonkook and perfectly adjusted to make the focus of their relationship on their school years instead year 22
cein is definitely one of the portrayals i noticed as being slightly different to canon but that honestly does make sense as the circumstances of his backstory has been changed and characterisation will reflect that, the brick scene replacing the hideout confrontation makes perfect sense for me in that regard- it takes place in the literal ruins of Eunjoos legacy where he does exactly whats been expected of him, follow her footsteps in being easily angered and violent. we've already seen his fire against authority so many times that it isnt imperative that its on school grounds against a teacher, instead they have it be hurting jeha in an attempt to save him- something which is a core fear at the centre of their relationship dynamic
by year 22, hyyh yoongi is abrasive and bunt because he fears the people around him will get dragged down with him and he truly cares about the others- especially jungkook who he views as someone too young for him to hurt futher, not as the innocent as the others view him as but moreso that hes young enough to turn his life around where they cant
hyyh jungkook sees yoongi as one of the only people who understands that hes hurting, that he isnt JUST the innocent kid, he latches onto yoongi and says i want to be hurt because then maybe everyone else will understand what you already do- its both a casual cry for help like the ones we already see him doing constantly AND a need to have someone genuinely by his side who wont abandon him
the changes made to yoonkooks narrative only help to more explicitly serve those ideas to an audience that will barely get to see Year 22- any Year 22 yoonkook content is going to be automatically cut because the audience skips that period alongside Hwan so they replace it with the hallucination scene instead, if cein and jeha dont stick together in Year 22 like in canon the natural consequences they decided on is a gay as hell orpheus eurydice alluding homage before his death... which makes up for the lack of Year 22 yoonkook for me.
keep in mind that during the events of begins youth jeha and cein are 14 and 18 respectively- they cannot have the exact same ship portrayal as within hyyh year 22 events (17-19) so they focus it instead on portraying their general dynamic with an underlying queer coding to them both individually (with a growing puppy love energy on jehas end) is a much better choice imo
i could go into detail about ceins reaction to both jeha and hwan and the reaction of the people around them and its impact on his relationship w both of them in public v in private and how that links to their relationships with their fathers etcetcetc forever but like. its not the show externally that's homophobic guys. and it only serves to make it more queer coded so ill leave that for a whole other post some other time if its needed

It's equally plausible with good arguments on both sides that its either Hwan or Changjun in the fire scenes- I honestly can lean either way depending on the day and i think its more poetic if you can't fully determine which one instead of being just Hwan- for the same reason they cast Hwans actor to play Changjun, it highlights the generational cycle and how Hwan is becoming like his father and how his father was like him when he was younger etc.
In relation to Changjun looping Eunjoos fire all the aforementioned examples of strangeness can still apply- the idea here is that he gives up on the loop when he fails then leaving us in the current timeline of Eunjoo dead and Changjun having weird memory shit in relation to her and the rest of the crew by the time we get to Hwans turn. We know from canon that both loops can have breaks within them where it seems you've moved on only to have another disaster restart the loop and that the memory issues aren't confined to within the loop itself- here it could be either a more canon compliant high school loop with a secondary later loop for the fire or just the fire loop as the canon compliant high school loop with Gyuho is very clearly completely retconned in Begins Youth therefore cannot be wholly relied upon. In this case Changjuns high school days would be a lot more like canon seokjins- a shitty situation happening pre loop that informs the contents of the loop later on thats memories can be lost through failure impacting the decisions made and attitude going forwards. I'm not completely sure what a Changjun high school loop would look like with the shows altered circumstances and how that would relate to where we get to in Hwans time.
When we see Hwan loop what they show us frames it as if he starts the loop at episode one when he returns from America, it is wholly possible that he does have the ability to rewind further back all the way to Eunjoos death ergo its flash forwards and they just didn't show it for visual shorthand reasons but it would also require Hwan to somehow make it back to Korea as i'm fairly certain he was in America at the time unless the shows altered timeline isn't what i think it is (a year or two before the events of the show)- which knowing this show is highly likely to be honest the timeline is confusing. The only insight into Hwans loops we get are from Jehas drawings in their equivalent of Year 22 which isn't much help. I get that it's the root of some of their problems but i'm unsure why or how Hwan would be able to go back that far for one random event he wasn't remotely involved in, at least an earlier high school loop makes sense for him if we gave him loop powers even further back why would it stop at Eunjoo's death specifically instead of any of the other impactful pre-show events.
The figure we see in the fire sequences is holding Changjuns lighter, something we've been shown as a visual shorthand for him before, given a completely separate introduction card to Hwan- one with phrases clearly describing Changjun, and accompanied with the dialogue "you are not the only one" clearly referencing him as we know he's the previous time traveller. All of this leads me to believe the fire sequence time traveller is infact potentially Changjun and not Hwan because otherwise the framing of that scene is... confusing at best unless it was flashforward-ing to Hwan multiple loops later showing how much he's become like his father but thats almost too convoluted to imagine for a scene that's seems to be a simple twist reveal for an audience that doesn't know Changjun also travelled from the Notes.
Anyways I could talk about the possibilities a lot, Begins Youth is somehow both incredibly detailed and fascinating and also incredibly vague and confusing. TLDR: I 100% agree it could be Hwan in the fire scenes but I also think you can't immediately discredit that it could also be Changjun- and that duality itself sums up the themes of both of their arcs incredibly well
I need to rewatch the first five minutes of every Begins Youth episode and get a notebook and some red string and some tape for my wall because literally what's going on there. Maybe they explained it towards the end but I was a little focused on what for me was a twist bc I didn't read Save Me carefully enough and missed a VERY important line at the beginning. But anyways

my personal take on the fire sequences is that it's changjun looping to try and save eunjoo but. anything more specific than that i could not explain to you what's going on. part of the twist of the fire sequences for me is that at first you think the boys are involved in Setting the fire and then the second half reveals that they are infact being instructed to do shady things that would help Avoid tragedy (keeping cein out of the way, replacing the petrol with water, calling for help early etc)
begins ≠ youth goes on a completely non canon compliant tangent (although i do adore the addition) with the whole changjun eunjoo plotline therefore i have absolutely no canon basis for interpreting this particular part of the story HOWEVER it does mean that we know for 100% that we don't have to follow canon timeline/happenstance for changjuns loop meaning its possible for it to occur post hwans birth in relation to eunjoo instead of during changjuns high school years in relation to choi gyuho
id love to sit here with a full comprehensive timeline and explanation for the fire sequences and how they link but alas unless we get a season 2 (which is unlikely) it'll probably be left to interpretation and vibes alone

as the pfp change suggests, ive officially updated this acc to be a hyyh AND starseekers page since they r already connected as hell and ive been having a lot of thoughts on starseekers too recently
mainly bc ive been seeing a lot of misinterpretation and confusion over both lore stories atm since they are both potentially active again soon and i need a space to rant about it lmao

eternally thinking ab the 3 chois in hyyh. who are they. are any of them related to each other or is it just a coincidence. what exactly happened to them. like they are clearly somewhat important considering 2/3 choi's are also adapted into begins ≠ youth..
also hybe please release their full names bc its so annoying to have to differentiate them as 'seok-jin's choi, jim-in's choi, and chang-jun's choi'

the main difference between hyyh and begins youth is that the tragedy of hyyh comes from willful ignorance whereas the tragedy of b≠y comes from the inability to act
b≠y is a Lot more self aware than hyyh is, the characters know about their own struggles and eventually confide in others about them whereas in hyyh no one acknowledges eachothers struggles bc they r blinded by their own until y22 forces them to when it becomes too late
b≠y instead bases its horror in the limitations of youth, these kids intimately know and see how much themselves and the others are struggling and yet they do not have the power physically or socially to do anything about it, they are forced to sit back and watch shit go down
we know the loop is a representation for generational traps, an external force trapping these boys into succumbing to their issues brought about by their parents or the societal systems they inherited, unable to move on until you address + dismantle the system not the consequence
thats why seok-jin/hwan has always been the loops witness, he can see outside the trap because he is the only one who has the privilege of means to do anything about it hence why its also generational, they both frame this as a sort of reparations for his hand in their suffering
hyyh loops are seok-jins awakening, his class consciousness moment, he repeats his friend's pain until he sees the true extent of the external societal forces upon them instead of just their individual incidents and joins arms with them to make a change together rather than alone
in b≠y hwan Knows how his fathers doing/society as a whole negatively impacts the rest of them but hes never been brave enough to stand up for what is right at his own detriment, the loops here are the universe saying heres the means, now follow through on your promise to change
