Hellebores Blooming
Hellebores are special because they bloom when little else is in flower. The Christmas rose (Helleborus niger) blooms in late winter while the Lenten rose (Helleborus orientalis) blooms in very early spring when most perennials have yet to start growing. Although the flowers and leaves may droop after a snowfall, they soon recover.
Gardening in shade can be challenging for gardeners who want to grow great plants. That’s where hellebores come to the rescue. They grow in part- to full-shade areas and prefer moist, well-drained soil with plenty of organic matter. Once they’re established, they are tough plants that withstand drought and neglect.

Bee Balm Flowers - Captured with UV Photography
Playing with different photo techniques can really make the colors in flowers pop. Craig Burrows works with ultraviolet (UV) photography to capture the brightness of flowers. The result is radiant images!
The plants were captured using a type of photography called UVIVF or “ultraviolet-induced visible fluorescence.” It is a relatively unknown process which brings out the glowing fluorescence in plant matter through the use of high-intensity UV lights.

“Skeleton Flowers” Turn Beautifully Transparent in the Rain
Skeleton flower is a somewhat unusual woodland perennial in the same family as the mayapple. Large, umbrella-like leaves cover the crown of the plant, making for an attractive ground cover when the plant colonizes the shady areas beneath trees. But there is one unique effect that makes the skeleton flower a true conversation piece. In June or July, skeleton flower produces tiny white flowers that are initially ordinary, but then turn colorless and clear as glass when touched by rain. This happens because the petals of the skeleton flower are so thin that they become transparent except for the intricate skeleton-like veining. As the flowers dry up, they turn a faded white. In early autumn, the reddish seed stalks develop clusters of bright blue berries, also quite an eye-catcher. Starting with the folded-up leaves slowly unrolling in the spring, skeleton flower offers plant drama all season long.

Peace Lily Flowers - Spathiphyllum
Peace lilies are tropical species and hybrid from the Spathiphyllum genus that are a favorite flowering houseplant. A striking plant when used in mass display, the peace lily blooms in spring with long-lasting flower stalks that hover gracefully over the foliage. The plant has glossy oval leaves with points that emerge from the soil. A well-grown peace lily may bloom twice a year, resulting in several months of flowers.
When grown in the garden in the tropical and subtropical climates where they are hardy, peace lilies are normally planted in the spring while it is still cool. As houseplants, they can be purchased and brought into the home at any time, though you will want to protect the plants from cold temperatures as you move them from the store to your home. They are moderate growers and will reach maturity in around three years. Peace lily plants are considered toxic to pets and humans.

The Religious Symbolism of the Passion Flower
The Passionflower: Passion of Christ & the Crucifixion: The Crown of Thorns is the 72 filaments that encircle the head. The three nails are symbolized by the top stigma & the five wounds of Christ are the five anthers. The spear blade that pierced his side is seen as the leaves. The blood of Christ is the red stain from the plant and the round fruit of the plant symbolises the world he came to save. The fragrance of the flower represents the spices prepared by the Holy women.’ (mdidea.com)
