so i’m not even watching enchante but i’m seeing multiple people on every platform dissect the french in the first episode to call it bad. i speak french too (i am an immigrant of colour who lived in french-speaking countries for a long time). from what i’ve seen, the word choice is not the best and that’s a valid critique. however, i seriously don’t think it’s necessary to nitpick the accents and the pronunciation that we hear. it doesn’t matter if that guy was in france for 1 year or 10 years—everyone picks up a language differently and not everyone can lose their accent.

i just think that hyperfocusing on the accent and pronunciation is one of many micro aggressions that white people in western countries show towards poc when they’re just trying to learn their language. you might think you’re being funny and defending your language, but to me and to every other immigrant of colour that follows you, you just sound like another one of those racist people who makes fun of us and our parents when we speak your languages. if you’re white, maybe examine the reason as to why you feel the need to tear down poc in a silly rom-com for their pronunciation of french. i promise you, that kind of critique is inappropriate as hell.

It is so funny to me that Peem really believes that he needs the Slave Deal to keep Phum around while Phum is out there making sure Peem remembers their kisses and getting all jealous about Kluen and helping around Peem's aunt's cafe. And the fact that this perfectly highlights how insecure Peem was in himself and his own merit to keep Phum interested and attached to him is so special. Like Phum was not letting go at all, but Peem could not trust the grip enough until he could see the pressure it had withheld, and that's respectable.

The decreasing viewership of Perfect 10 Liners when the FaifaWine storyline started makes me so sad because I love them so much. The way they talk to each other and are honest even though they’re both clearly unsure of themselves. How Faifa is so outwardly confident and loud but inwardly he’s so clearly scared and the only way he knows how to exist is to help people and if he doesn’t help people then who is he? He helps and he helps and he helps but doesn’t understand his own heart. And then there’s Wine, the quiet introvert, who despite heartbreak and fear about being accepted is also so self aware and firm in his own self? The way they’re so comfortable around each other and yeah, they don’t exactly know what to name their feelings yet (spoiler alert babes you’re in love) but they’re figuring it out together because they’re always talking and checking in and it’s just so goddamn fucking good to see. Like I love my angst and heartbreak and toxicity as much as the next BL fan but FaifaWine are like a field of sunflowers. They’re a cool breeze on a Summer’s day. They’re a sparkling purple sunset reflecting off the sea. They are comfort food for my poor, bedraggled soul.

Before I do whatever it is I do for episode twenty of Perfect 10 Liners, I want to state that Junior is entering into the Fluke Gawin territory of babygirl.

And every week, I get more excited for Junior and Mark to give me more of their special brand of chemistry in My Romance Scammer.

It wasn't in my Top 5 GMMTV picks for nothin'!

So I am delighted that Junior and Mark get to play Lapis Lads in love with each other because they are easily my favorite couple in this eighteen-year-long show.

I think the only ones more happy than me are Green Guy Gun and his bestie Yellow Yal Arm.

Who is actually wearing yellow! Unlike his Red Rascal boyfriend who is wearing black.

But I'm not upset about it because I have bigger issues to focus on like Yotha constantly being true to his color and embodying his Negative Ned persona as he continues to doubt Faifa's ability to love while his sunshine boyfriend resides in Optimistic City with the rest of us.

So I loved the fact that Gun kindly reminded his man that Yotha once made him cry . . . a lot. People need time to learn to love, and thankfully, Gun gave Yotha plenty of time, so now it's time for Yotha to support his brother who was there when Gun needed him and quit being the nail in my clown car's tire!

Because Faifa is in love with Wine even if he can't say exactly that! But, to my surprise, he has been owning up to his big emotions every chance he gets. He told Wine that he purposefully bumped into him in the park. He tells Wine he is cute, and that he is trying to change his ways for him. HE REJECTS PEOPLE!

Faifa likes this dark Blue Boy!

And the whole world knows it!

Sidenote: I'm in love with the translation since it uses this idiom which also includes their color!

And even though Wine isn't 100% sure of his feelings, the colors and his actions are telling me he likes Faifa just as much as he agrees to stay on the phone with his light Blue Boy while they sleep with the light blue backing him up.

So even though these two color-coded boys in love are still trying to confirm if they need to make another plate for Wine at the family dinners,

Arm is already in his Jane Austen Emma mode and matchmaking like a true Regency era socialite. Only Arc could rein him in, and even then, Arm is prepared to pull out the final boss next week when he suggests his OTP visit the love guru known as Tawan.

And considering how everyone, including Yotha during an actual physical fight to support his brother and bestie Blue Boy Phuri, keeps telling Faifa he needs to be a bit more selfish when it comes to love and quit being so dang nice to everyone and their mom, I'm excited to see what advice Tawan will offer the boys.

Like they can't keep hiding from what is right in front of them.

And they can't keep ignoring the way they feel about each other.

They are in love with each other, and they are helping each other in all the best ways.

So if these two toxicitos could make each other better and communicate how much they love each other, then I have hope for the best Blue Boys.

But these perfectly color-coded boys have to get over a few humps first, and, unfortunately, they aren't the sexual kind.

So thank goodness Wine is there to help light Blue Boy Faifa learn how to reject people since it physically pains Faifa to not be of help at all times.

And it's even better that Faifa is turning darker for his dark Blue Boy and becoming more possessive about Wine as he slowly realizes he wants to be the only one to be his special someone.

Thank God.

And thank (Blue Boy?) Jay for asking the questions that need answers!

Because our boy deserves someone to make sure he drinks milk alternatives, changes his shattered phone cover, and gets home safely.

I love these Lapis Lads.

And soon they will realize they love each other.

But . . . will that be before or after Tor makes an appearance?

I swear to every god that there is that no one will ever be able to lie and tell me this isn’t one of gmmtv’s most beautiful bl’s. Not. A. Soul. And I’m not arguing in the comments so save it.

I wasn’t there when the show was airing, but people really lost their minds over Boston in Only Friends. What an icon! People made him out to be an emblem of casual sex positivity—probs because there were so few representatives of casual sex in BL up to that point, especially on GMMTV. Some go as far as to hold him up as an icon of nonmonagamy. Then they interpreted his character’s ending as a moral commentary condemning the casual relationship culture they believed he represented. This is true for both the Boston-haters and the Boston-lovers.

Does the show actually set Boston up as the ultimate symbol of casual sex, though? Not really. His character gets surrounded by references to pornography, politics, and the sex industry, which have their own Thai story to tell through Boston, but everyone except Mew engages in some form of casual sex in the series. And Boston never uncovers the possibility of nominate for himself, nor does anyone offer it to him.

The issue with using Boston as an emblem of casual sex or nonmonogamy: he’s not a good representative of an “ethical slut” as the book title calls it. He manipulates others, explores boundary limits without full disclosure, and finally cheats while in a closed relationship. His friends are wrong about why he’s a douchebag (and i take it were assumed to be smart enough to realize it), but he’s got other issues.

On the other hand, he’s not so horrifically damned by the narrative as those who think Boston got would he deserved and those who think he’s unfairly cursed by the narrative would have it. He doesn’t end up with a partner who needs monogamy and moves to New York to pursue his erotic photography—hardly the stuff of queer nightmares.

What hurts the most (other than being so close and having so much to say but watching you walk away) is Boston’s exclusion. As the series moves forward, Boston increasingly throws away lines about his loneliness. Then after he’s refused forgiveness by Mew and denied love by Nick, he’s gone. He’s only recalled in the end by the photograph he took of his friends as they began the hostel project.

I wonder how much of the outcry over Boston comes from the disruption that Only Friends causes to the utopic queer found family narrative. The queer found family promises acceptance and comfort despite differences. Divisions among queers persist, though. People and causes get left behind in order to pursue other new options. Judgements get made about what others are willing to tolerate. The underlying argument people on the internet engaged with at the end of Only Friends was whether Boston’s friends should’ve let him go or kept him more included. I love Boston. Not because he’s a great representation of proper sluttitude. Not because he’s a great antagonist to hate—his friends are as shitty as him in my view. I love Boston because he’s a confused fuck-up who takes the directions of the little devil on his shoulder as often as he follows the directions of the little angel. I love him because he’s impacted by the closet but also not entirely owned by it. I love him cuz he gets accused of shit that’s patently false and doesn’t know how to convince people otherwise because of the other shit he does. He’s mischievous and petty and confused about what the fuck everyone’s so pissed about when they’re pulling their own fucked-up stunts. I love Boston’s character cuz he makes us confront the ideas about perfect queer victims and perfect queer found families. He makes us ask why the fuck we might want (or not) to keep him in our queer circles? Why or why not his vision of the future might be worth forgiving him to hold onto?
