i don't think i've written anything abt the reach on my archived blogs so i'm making a little mental note to do a better dive into them on here soon but!!! i wanna start doing stuff so if your character is someone like a lantern / familiar with different beings in space, there's a pretty good chance they know about the reach / jaime's scarab! the reach are a species that are banned in 17 sectors of the universe (according to the lantern corps) because they're known for getting to a new spot and immediately trying to invade / colonize the fuck out of it. khaji da, the scarab that eventually makes its way to jaime, was intercepted by a green lantern on its way to earth and became damaged.

usually, the hosts have no control over their actions once bonded with the scarab. due to the damage, khaji da went through various stages of dormancy whilst with dan garrett and ted kord, only fully activating once jaime reyes came into contact with it. at first, khaji has way more control over jaime and tends to overreact (understatement of the century) to anything that poses a threat to jaime, but with time and a lot of work on jaime's part, his willpower starts breaking through and he convinces khaji to use non-lethal force to stop their enemies and uses his newfound abilities for good. and to stop the impending reach invasion once they realize their long-dormant scarab finally woke up.
