- but don’t worry; he’s very determined to cure you

- being from a rural area, getting medicine meant walking all day to the market side

- so his family had always taken to homemade remedies

- and trust me, they have endless concoctions and rituals to get rid of illness

- aunt mito would whip you up about eight different types of tea infused with every ingredient under the sun

- and gon would probably watch you throw away a tissue and stop you, telling you “out here we burn those to ward off future sicknesses”

- you might get a little tired of their placebo medicines that aunt mito swears by because “gon never gets sick anymore” (it’s because he has ging’s genes—even viruses are repelled..)

- although he’s generally a free spirit, he becomes much more meticulous when you’re under the weather

- and seeing him carefully cook a soup for you, weighing each ingredient and starting over a few times is rather endearing

- all you’d need to do is tell him you’re uncomfortable or in pain and he would be at your side

- but if you asked, he’d stop by during his lunch and take a few breaks to check on you

- he’ll get you everything you need, trusting you to be able to take the medicine on time and eat when he’s not there

- other than that, he’d advise you to rest, even carrying you back to bed if he found you around the house doing anything moderately intensive

- when you study (and work in) health so closely, you become aware of all kinds of conditions

kurapika had lost so so much. he’d tackled each day of his life with a dull look in his eyes, a yearning for his family that could never be sated, lest he died and joined them. death itself was a luxury he could not afford. not yet.

so he bid his time alone, keeping them in his memory, trying to carve out a life of justice for himself.

he’s lived in fear of getting close to anyone, of being left behind again.

or worse, loving someone only to watch them be destroyed by the cruel world he’d come to know.

you’d been friends before all of this; friendly colleagues, someone he’d shared a drink with occasionally. you knew he didn’t let just anyone in, giving you a feeling of being needed. it was perfectly innocent for a while.

but the minute he realized he was falling in love, he panicked. how could a person offset him so much?

he was unable to work, unable to sleep, his mind would always wander back to you.

you’d notice a surge in messages from him. he’d no longer contact you to talk about work. he’d call the exact moment you walked into your apartment, asking if you were safe, if anyone had looked at you odd, if you sensed anything off at your home.

kurapika would tell himself and you that he had valid concerns. after all, you both worked dangerous jobs and people could be after you. didn’t you understand that frequent communication was a safety precaution?

but as time went on, he began to feel like he was waiting for something to happen. for a reason to intensify his growing obsession. until it happened.

you’d given him a spare key to your home; a mistake by all means. you’d realized his anxiety, wanting to ease his mind by allowing him access to you. at all times. and he’d seemed to smile with his eyes, thanking you, and reassuring you that he’d be there if anything were to happen.

then came the break ins; nights he perched beside you, watching you sleep. after all, if you trusted him to have a key, surely you wouldn’t mind him entering when he wanted.

he’d look through windows as you changed, as you cooked, or as you lounged. it didn’t matter what you were doing, he would watch you longingly. there was always a justification though; the guise of protecting you. even if he had to resort to stalking to do so.

one day, you’d gone out drinking, as most people your age did. you didn’t feel the need to invite him—he was hardly the type of man who belonged in a bar. but of course, he found out. he always does. and unfortunately for you, watching all those men hit on you agitated him in a near primal way.

he hadn’t understood it before but it was clear now; you were his. if he didn’t interact with anyone else, why should you?

he’d sent one of his underlings in, instructing them to spike your drink, carry you to his car. and despite every moral his parents raised him to have, he found nothing wrong with this.

you’d woken up in an unfamiliar place, chained to a bed that was too comfortable. you were practically tucked in, wearing soft pajamas; your previous clothes and shoes nowhere to be found.

that’s when you saw him, in the corner of the room, watching you as closely as an owl in the night. yet he looked oddly at peace, for the first time since you’d met. like he was soothed by having you chained here.

that feeling prompted him to come closer, and closer, and closer.

he grabbed your face, holding it as delicately as a hardened man like himself knew how to.

“you were drugged.”

he states, almost in accusation.

“why the hell would you put yourself in that position? do you.. do you have any idea how worried i was? you could have died!”

as he describes what happened to you, a pang of guilt runs through your body.

“kurapika.. you saved me?”

you ask, a sense of gratitude heavy in your words. noticing his chains wrapped around your body, you squirmed against them, confused as to why he had you restrained.

“yes,” he answers, that same smile appearing in his eyes despite the frown on his lips.

his narrative had worked.

“i think it’s best you stay here until you’re better. whatever you were drugged with caused you to seize pretty violently earlier. but don’t worry, i’ll take care of you.”

you accepted this as fact, because he was a good friend. someone who was damaged and trying his best to heal. someone righteous who only wanted the best for you. he’d even brought you to one of his private cabins in a remote area, just so no one else could hurt you while you were ill.

he’d tell you how it took hours to get to work each day, but he’d do it for your sake. so you thanked him continuously for taking time out of his busy schedule to care for you. and when he fed you medicine or food, you made no resistance.

it made you sicker.

but he’d never hurt you. he refused to. even when you spoke of going to the outside world, something that always made him freeze, he’d never laid a finger on you. he was always kind and gentle, making sure you were comfortable.

he was at your side constantly. he’d read you stories, coincidentally ones that detailed tragedy and horror. he’d even tell you some of his own, of all the dangerous encounters he’d had.

eventually, he introduced his ideas of keeping you inside the house.

“you know, maybe you should work from home. you haven’t shown any signs of getting better. you’re always so weak, you get dizzy when you stand for too long. i’m worried that you’ll faint in public.. or worse, have another seizure.”

his words made sense to you. your health had been deteriorating ever since that fateful night. besides, you’d hate to worry him even more than you already did.

still, he wanted more. you were safe from outside dangers, for now. but he didn’t have full control over you. what if you found out of his lies? if you tried to abandon him?

soon, he’d settled on a solution to that.

you were barred from cooking after he deemed you too sick to do so. he’d do it for you anyway, so there was no need for you to strain yourself.

he later prohibited you from showering, telling you how your doctor had instructed you to exclusively take baths. and he would draw them for you, because if you accidentally made the water too hot or cold, it would shock your system.

he also explained to you that sexual gratification was dangerous if he was not monitoring it. he’d give you a pill whenever you wanted intimacy, telling you the symptoms could be fatal if you were to stimulate yourself unmedicated.

it was only natural you began to reciprocate his feelings beyond a platonic level. that was his goal.

- honestly you're brave if you let this man touch it

- he's a 4 in one soap kinda guy

- you'll ask him to do a simple bun and you'll never get that hair tie back

- it's legit lost in your hair

- anytime he tries to tie your hair back/up, he just misses half of it

- likes to watch you do it though, even something easy would blow his mind

- he's really good at doing hair

- when it comes to yours though, you'd probably need to beg if you want him to style it

- once he finally relents, he's gonna go all out

- if you have easy maintenance hair, he doesn't mind helping you wash, dry, brush, whatever it

- but if your hair needs more care or a long routine, he'd just leave that to you

kurapika’s breath caught in the back of his throat. the dark eyes you adored were now burning a scarlet flame, the intensity threatening to consume him.

there you were, casually sitting inches away, subconsciously resting one of your knees against his leg as if his muscles weren’t taunt with purpose. as if his mind wasn’t at a dangerous peak.

it was so customary of you to ignore every brooding shadow of his character. he’d often wondered how good of an actor you were. because maybe just maybe, if could convince him it was all a facade, he’d be able let you go.

instead, he’s faced with your inexorable acceptance. the one he convinces himself he’s unworthy of. his mind rushes through memories of you. the indifference you showed to everyone else. how cruel you’d been before giving into the urges he’d been desperately trying to ignore.

the urge to be soft; to be gentle. to caress your skin without the excuse of desire blurring his motives, just the wish of affection he’d been aching for, for far too long. that you had been aching for. a wish he’d never let you fully grant.
