Planning to leave for vacation soon now things are opening back up? Here are some tips while you’re away.... When vacationing turn your water heater down and your refrigerator up.
When you turn your water heater down and refrigerator up when vacationing it saves energy while you're out of the house. No one needs hot water when no one is in the home using up any water. Turning the temperature of your refrigerator: also saves money and energy. You should always remove perishable foods before. •

Good morning Y’all,
Ready for your Tuesday tips from Blue Frog?? These are tips to help people conserve water in super simple ways… *** When you’re washing your hands, lather hands with soap with the water off.
*** Soak dishes rather than working off stuck on foods under running water. *** Turn off water when you’re brushing your teeth and save four gallons a minute.
*** Choose your new appliances with the Energy Star logo that signifies efficiency.
*** Try not to run water over food to thaw it. ***Check faucets to see if it has an aerator on it: the mesh screen inside the spigot. *** Wash your car at a car wash, where the water is recycled. •

Good morning everyone,
Yesterday we posted about upgrading your toilets. I found a pretty cool piece of history I thought I would share with everyone since it’s on that topic.
“Toilet model, Western Han period (206 BCE–9 CE), 2nd century BCE. unearthed from the Tomb of the King of Chu, Tuolan Mountain, Xuzhou, Jiangsu. Earthenware. Xuzhou Museum, EX2017.1.113. Photograph © Xuzhou Museum.”
“This 2,000-year-old toilet has an advanced toilet design that allowed users to comfortably sit on a set of step stones and rest their backs and arms on the supports. Water could clean the pit and flush the excrement directly into the sewage system. Han noble households had separate rooms for baths and toilets, and similar structures, like this one, were also prepared in tombs for the deceased to use in the afterlife. Outside the palaces, most latrines were still squat-style over a large pit or basin, and many were built above or near a pigsty to collect human excrement for manure. Because the filth and smell often made people sick, latrines were believed to be hiding places for demonic or evil forces.”

Thinking of getting a low flow toilet?

Whether it’s to save the environment or to save money, here are some things to consider while making a decision. They are often more expensive to install and maintain, but it saves you a significant amount of money over time.
Low Flush toilets use one or two methods to clear waste, either gravity or pressure assistance. According to EPA toilets are the biggest water drain in American households, accounting for 30% of water use in the home. Older toilets use about 3.5 to 7 gallons of water with every flush. The low flow toilet ranges from 1.28- 1.6 gallons per flush or less.
Some low-flow toilet common issues are the “whooshing” sound is louder than a regular toilet flush. If they’re not operating properly they may not force waste far enough down the drain, which can lead to clogs or other issues. If the water pressure in your home is not very good, the low-flow toilets will not eliminate waste as intended.
Here are some pros, and cons…
*** Pros***
• Low-flow toilets save a lot of water every flush and overtime. • You can save money right away, saving around $110 every year just by switching toilets.
• They are increasingly available as an option in constructed homes. *** Cons***
• Low flow fixtures might not work with your exciting plumbing if you live in an older home. • They use reduced volume of water as regular toilets so they do not always flush waste as well and may need a second or third flush which makes it less efficient
• Homes built in the last two decades are more likely to accommodate the low-flow fixtures without significant alteration to the existing plumbing system. • •

****Please do not use your toilets as a garbage disposal. Besides human waste the only other substances that should be flushed down your toilet is toilet tissue. Often people flush hair, bandages, sanitary products, paper towels, and gum. Those items need to be put in the garbage instead. It is only a matter of time until a serious toilet clog happens because of these items. •
***You should inspect your toilet bowls for leaks and cracks routinely. An awesome way you can test your leaks is by adding a few food coloring drops into the tank and let it sit for a reasonable amount of time and check where the color leaked. •
***If your toilet looks like it's going to start overflowing, remove the tank lid and press down on the flush valve to plug the hole at the bottom of the tank to prevent it from overflowing and gain time to figure out the problem.

Shower and Sink Tips
1. To maintain good water flow in showers and sinks, remove mineral deposits from showerheads and faucets by unscrewing them and soaking them for 24 hours in vinegar. This causes the mineral deposits to break down leaving showerheads and faucets clean and functioning better. If it is excessively clogged and does not come clean replace it.
2. As your showerhead ages, it starts to wear out and the nozzle holes can become enlarged and sometimes starts to leak. Showerheads only last around 10 years so it's recommended if your shower head is older than that to replace it. Doing so will reduce water usage by around 50 percent.
3. It's recommended to inspect faucets in all areas in the home and utility room for puddles or drips in case there are any necessary repairs you need to get done.
Call Blue Frog Plumbing if you have any questions or need to have us come estimate any repairs you need done.

Hello everyone, such a beautiful week! Not sure if you need a new water heater? Here are 5 signs you need a new water heater... 1. An old unit, you can find the exact age by looking at the serial number on the manufacturer's sticker near its top, the first two numbers usually represent the year but the stickers can vary. You should have your water heater replaced if its more than 10 years old, and flush your water heater every year so it lasts as long as possible.
2. Rusty water is another sign your water heater is rusting on the inside and might start leaking soon.
3. Not enough hot water is the most common sign that your water heater will fail. If your shower keeps turning cold before you get done, this is usually caused by sediment that builds up over time in hot water heaters taking up space separating water from the heat.
4. If your water heater is making rumbling noises and banging. This is caused by the sediment we mentioned before after it is heated and reheated it hardens. The extra time required to heat water leads to crack and holes in your water heater so if you hear any of the noise check for cracks!
5. As metal heats I expand and if there are slight fractures water might leak from your tank. A leak can cause damages to your home. When the metal in your tank cools down it will stop leaking. Make sure there are no other leaks coming from fittings or connections to the water heater.
If you notice any of these call Blue Frog ASAP at 719-308-5929 •
