Luke is 14 in nwos and in the uk he'd be in high school student in either year 9 or 10 (year 9s are 13-14, year 10s are 14-15)- but since he's in america right now, according to google he would be... 8th or 9th grade which... is either middle or high school.... oops i picked high school forgetting he's in america atm orz

So tbh, my conclusion is that it really could be either one to be honest; it depens on a) Luke's birthday and b) what month nwos takes place in. Things that iirc we sadly have any info on oof, so it's really up to interpretation imo

BREAKING LAYTON NEWS!

After an agonizing wait since the last trailer from the Level-5 Vision we finally got a new spark of hope at the horizon. Level-5 will be present at the Tokyo Game Show 2023 and already teased us with our favorite tophat wearing, work avoiding, puzzle solving professor, meaning that we can definitely expect some more info about New World of Steam!

The Tokyo Game Show will be held from September 21 to September 24, so keep your eyes open for that time!

You know sometimes it doesn't really occur to me the wild implications of fictional characters having a confirmed age can have when you take into account the plot of the games.

Luke is 10 in LS/SC, 11 in MM, 12 in AL and 13 in all the OG trilogy game (the crossover included if you take into account that he wears is og trilogy outfit).

How wild of a year that's gotta be for a 13-year-old. I mean with the other games he's had (I'm assuming) at least some time to process the events of that game's plot but like

In a single year Luke, a 13-year-old boy, has:

learned there's an entire village made of robots that will stop working should the reinhold's family gold be touched

breathed in hallucinogenic gas that caused him (and others) to believe a 50-year-old town was not 50 years old

basically kidnapped (along with layton, phoenix and maya) by a company that used plant chemicals to make a town believe they lived in a medieval town with witches their whole lives and was trapped there for about 5 days and barely slept

Believed his beloved mentor/father figure was dead via goldification and very much grieved for him (even though he thankfully was not dead- I've rambled about this in slightly more detail here)

some time prior to UF/LF learns his parents are planing to move to america and isn't happy about it

believed he met his future self when it was just some guy(tm) who looks a lot like him

said guy then proceeded to almost destroy london

some extra notes about the au under the cut:

Luke was doing some late night investigating on the specter and accidentally got hit by Descole's machine, Loosha noticed and immediately went to rescue him. She has no idea how though so she takes them to Arianna and Luke as quickly as she can

In his dying breath Luke tells Arianna that he called for help to a professor named Layton that his dad is apparently friends with and hands him his notebook. (Tony was away in the manour trying to find a med kit to help Luke)

Arianna is understandably very upset by this whole thing

She and Tony end up burying Luke's body because he deserved at least that

Fearing she would get blamed for it, Luke's death is kept a secret.

Luke is.... a ghost and tries to talk to Arianna but it freaks her out so he decides to stay quiet and invisible

When Layton arrives things go as normal, when he arrives to the Triton residence Clark informs him that his son has gone missing and would be forever in his debt if he could find him on the side (Descole has no problem with this, it's not like Luke saw the specter up close, and has assumed the worst happened to him)

I can only assume the plot of last specter goes as normal, although things probably take a bit longer for Layton and Emmy with no Luke to guide them. They eventual make their way to Barde Manour it goes like the og plot until Layton says his name and Arianna decides to ask for his help and tells him about Luke. (Layton is.... Well he's sad about it, the life of his friend's son has been lost after all, but he wouldn't be as sad about if it happened in say the og trilogy).

Arianna then insists on helping Layton solve what's going on, for Luke's sake. Tony tells them about Arianna's illness, but after some insistence Layton agrees under the condition that she is careful.

The rest of the plot goes as normal, but Luke's role is replaced with Arianna and Tony. Luke has been following Layton and Emmy since they arrived in his house btw (though sometimes he goes off on his own)

Upon discovering the golden garden, instead of Luke asking to go with the professor- Arianna is the one to ask, Luke loved puzzles and would have loved to talking to the professor she thinks and decides to do it for her friend. After some reluctance Layton agrees for her to come along but only after she's recovered- Arianna and Tony then stay under the care of Clark and Brenda for while Arianna recovers. Luke, however, follows Layton back to London.

Generally speaking Luke follows Layton around after this, though sometimes he also follows Emmy to her part time job at a news reporter job (because Clemmy is a universal constant sorry not sorry)

Luke has trouble turning visible, but is prone to turning visible when he cries. He goes red when angry

Able to lift things in the air with his hands, he would try to get Layton's attention with this but unfortunately the professor is a rational man so Luke believes he won't believe him.

misses his family a lot :(( poor baby

I haven't quite figured out the plot for the rest but in general Luke's role in the other games is taken by Arianna and Tony. (I like to think Clive poses as future Tony in this au, they..... sorta look alike right??)
