In a fandom that is so predominantly female, I owe Kim Jonghyun so much for making me feel wanted. As a gay, male Shawol, it meant so so much to hear him talk of LGBT acceptance and tolerance. It’s because of Jjong that I could proudly call myself a K-Pop fan and a Shawol, instead of being embarrassed to stan a group that was the same gender as me. He never once made me feel like less of a fan, never once made it seem like he didn’t want my support.
I don’t usually cry, or post outpourings of my thoughts. But I did both in these past two days, because I don’t want to hide the fact that Jjong gave my life so much more value simply by being himself.
I used to think that people who got overly-emotional about idols and people they didn’t really know was stupid. But when those tears fell after hearing the news, I understood. I’m sure that there are people who might read this and think like I used to. But he was the person that I needed. That hasn’t changed, but now it’s my turn to say:
You went through a lot. But you worked so hard, and you did so well. Rest easy, my friend.
