more eretlout headcanons - argument edition

- in the beginning of their relationship, they were casual - not because its what either of them wanted, but because snotlout was still coming to terms with his feelings for eret and was scared to comit (and to be judged by his father). Eret (not knowing about Snotlout's fears) was alright to go along with it and continued seeing othet people, which made Snotlout extremely jealous. This finally resulted in a fight in which Snotlout revealed that he wanted to be exclusive but hadn't made that clear because he didn't think Eret would give up seeing others to be with him -- and he also worries that his fear of disappointing Spitelout would ruin their relationship. After they made up, Eret made it clear that he only had romantic feelings for Snotlout and said he was okay waiting for Snotlout to be ready to come out in his own time (he actually hated pretending to be just friends in public but put up with it for snotlout's sake). They kept things quiet for a while until Snotlout felt ready to come out to his family.

- As their relationship became more serious and Eret started saying 'I love you' and being more sweet, rather than just flirtatious, it made Snotlout uncomfortable. He didnt feel like he deserved so much kindness and it freaked him out. He worried that he'd somehow tricked Eret into loving him. But instead of communicating that, he would start picking meaningless fights with Eret, subconsciously trying to end the relationship on his own terms rather than waiting for Eret to leave on his own. Finally after all of this is worked out, Snotlout promised to be more open about his feelings -- and Eret assured him that he did in fact deserve love.

- After the initial hurdles of their relationship, Snotlout got very clingy and had a hard time seeing Eret be friends with others, always suspecting that he'd leave him for someone else. Meanwhile, Eret hates feeling like he's being watched or controlled (maybe in part because of his experiences with Drago) and tends to shut down emotionally when he feels like someone is being too controlling -- he doesn't want to argue or walk away so he just stops talking or gives one word answers, which to him is the safest option. This in turn makes Snotlout feel abandoned and he gets more upset. It takes quite a few arguments and make up conversations for them to start working through this.
