Incredibly niche nerd brag: I just heard someone on a radio show share a snappy-sounding fact about nutrition, and immediately thought "that's gotta be a Brian Wansink original."
#and it was#tips for spotting info from the atelier of disgraced liar Brian Wansink include:#a) overt fatphobia#b) preternaturally sound-bite ready#and c) not actually that interesting or useful if you think about it for two seconds#fatphobia#maintenance phase#brian wansink

NYC electing a young, leftist Muslim man as their next mayor is the only good thing that's ever happened.
#allowing myself to be the tinist bit hopeful#that this signals a turning point#I know NYC is traditionally blue#but it's still a huge deal that he won#and I want to believe#that other elections are going to trend in that direction#now that so many are seeing how horrible the right is for everyone and everything

Switching from Concerta to Adderall since Concerta may as well have been a sugar pill for all it did.
It's sort of reassuring though. Even though Concerta didn't do anything, the fact that I had absolutely no reaction to it at all actually confirms I have ADHD, since a non-ADHD person would have been all jittery and hyper. This is real. My brain isn't handling dopamine correctly. I'm not just a forgetful mess.
#day one on just 5mg of adderall#and I have the same calm feeling I did when I tried a friend's#so I'm hopeful for a better result#I'm still not more focused or anything#but I feel a lot more peaceful than usual

I've never planned for my future. I don't know if it's an ADHD thing, but when I try to imagine anything beyond the next month or so it feels like my thought train evaporates without any control from me.
That said, I have decided I want to move back to Japan (permanently?) before I'm 40. And that requires planning. I don't want to work for a Japanese company again, so I either need to fully change my skillset so I can get a non-English teaching job, or pray that Japan improves its digital nomad visa and work toward a fully remote job. I also need to improve my Japanese in general. No more skipping kanji study.
All of this is vague hand-wavy declarations for now. I'm just putting it here so I have some pressure to actually start.
#i just... everything about Japan is better for me#i know there were things I didn't like#but my life here feels so narrow#i want to go to karaoke at 2am when I'm too stressed to sleep#I want to hop on a train and go from a major city to beautiful countryside in under two hours#i want my healthcare to NOT be tied to my job#i want to go to the onsen#i want to see all my friends#and I want to see their babies grow up
