Not to be like "what a wonderful world" on main, but today I had a Lyft ride from a soft-spoken Ethiopian man who shared his love of jazz with me, then I watched an old woman at Trader Joe's laughing and speaking Spanish with a little girl who was petting her dog, and earlier one of my students shared how happy she is that there are two other native people in her class, that for once she's not the only one, and like, this is how it's supposed to be. We're supposed to be a big mix of differences and similarities and smiles and languages, and when the world feels full of hate I am so happy I get to live in a place that says "no, that is not what we do here."

😬 yesterday I helped this older couple carry a bunch of stuff to their car, turned out they owned a plant nursery. They offered to give me some plants as thanks so I exchanged numbers with the husband. Saw Mikey off to board & train this morning. He looks like he's being sent to jail here, but it felt a little more like sending your kid off to summer camp, especially since I packed him a bag with all his favorite treats and toys.
