can i get a director's cut on your trolls meta fic (the one where they watch trolls)?

anon i appreciate this ask very much tyyyyy

the fic mentioned here is past hurts, future plans, meta jokes, and poppy is fed up w/ creek's bs- which i have dubbed 'trolls meta insanity' for tagging reasons, bc i obviously tend to have titles that are wayyyy too long

speaking of titles the title is kinda sorta a reference to the title of my other 'the gang watches the show fic', secrets, reveals, meta jokes, and twilight's skyrocketing blood pressure, which is a spy x family fic that i am also very behind on. both fics follow the same naming conversation of 3 things you will find in the fic + one expression of stress from one of the main characters, bc i am a nerd who likes to connect things like that

i have a real love for "the characters watch their own show" fics as a concept, for two main reasons. one, i think the concept of being trapped in a room with the people you care about, and knowing that all of your secrets are about to be revealed, and there is no way for you to stop it, is such a damn fascinating concept.

most react fics ive read have the characters just kinda go along with it, and i understand why! it's much easier and you kinda just wanna jump right into the thing everyone is here for. and i honestly didn't intend for my own fics to spend so much time with the characters just struggling to accept their situations. but also i think the moments of them panicking are intresting and i did my best to make them fun, even if they go on a bit longer than i intended

the other thing i love about the concept is how deeply meta it is. seeing your own life as a TV show or movie, watching your own life and the lives of your loved ones from the outside.... do you, as a character, agree with how things are framed? how do you react to seeing the worst parts of yourself on display and knowing that you can't refute them because they're right there.

obviously not all of those are in the fic yet, ive been busy with real life and very behind on writing all of my fic series >~<.

at some point or another i decided i wanted to make some original scenes for them to react to (obviously also not in the fic yet) especially for Branch's brothers and for Viva, bc otherwise it feels a bit lopsided. for a bit i was considering going through brozone's original scenes first (where i had them each temporarily going Grey for various amounts of time) butttt i figured i'd already taken long enough to get into the damn movie so for now those moments have been delayed

the other part of meta stuff i enjoy is just the bits that dance with forth wall. i think Bluto the troll as a character is a pretty good example of that lol. i have a bunch of rambling about them in the notes of that fic, but just having a character that's basically like a story element that gained sentience and really isn't sure if they like it was just a really fun character to mess around with. i already have a small arc for them in mind and i know they're going to choose a new name for themself, although i haven't quite figured out what that name will be

anyway! i think i've rambled enough but if you or anyone else has any other questions on any of my fics, please let me know! i could literally go on for ages lol

like as a writer obvi you want all the important characters to be related to someone cool, but there's only so many disney characters you can justify inviting into the world. at least some of your characters need to be related to minor characters and if you start running out of minor characters, WELP yeah this bitch is the kid of uhg. flounders. ex wife idk man

i failed to write a "trolls watch trolls" fic w/ basically the whole main cast and instead accidentally wrote like 10k words of Branch and Poppy having to see Creek for the first time since his betrayal and them literally fist fighting him, everyone (especially Branch) having complicated feelings about Literally Everyone they care about being in danger, and some weird as hell meta commentary of the act of character creation.

also i just got a little distracted adding in some wholsome bonding moments bc im very adhd, John Dory is my poor little meow meow so he and the rest of the bros need some attention even if it kinda distracts from the plot

now i've written an additional 5k words and we got maybe 2 whole minutes into the movie bc everyone keeps having feelings about having to witness a trollstice in a very intense way, including gristle being very upset

and also everything became an indiana jones style adventure movie for a quick sec

also also very soon Branch is going to have to explain the whole Being Grey thing and i havent written it yet but i am excited

so i've been reading this wonderful platonic hanahaki Branch fic by @sarilolla, where Branch has familial hanahaki x4 from the loss of his brothers

and im like. not even finished with it. but my brain said "What if all five of them had hanahaki lol?"

so pls consider. post movie, all 5 of these idiots have hanahaki and are refusing to tell the others. this hanahaki isn't terminal, but it makes you ill and puts you in more danger from other diseases or injuries. (Injuries/illnesses such as getting the life sucked out of you in a diamond... *evil laugh*)

they're still on Vacay island, which is good bc Branch knows as soon as they return to Pop Village he's MADE, so he needs to figure out a plan QUICKLY. He's still getting used to opening up to ppl, especially his brothers

Bruce is considering telling them but hasn't had much a chance with the kids around. Floyd is hesitating, mostly bc he dosn't want to make them worried but also bc it's scary to admit. Clay is oscillating between making plans to tell them and making plans to hide indefinetly, and JD is fully planning to take this secret to his grave

cue several days of awkwardly trying to hide flowers, super obvious excuses that no one notices bc they are also trying to escape, and just alot of sus behavior. I think one of Bruce's kids has individually found out about and been sworn to secrecy by JD, Clay, Floyd and Branch (in that order).

Brandy knows everything and is trying so hard not to spill it, she just keeps trying to encourage Bruce even though he keeps losing his nerve or getting interrupted. Viva and Poppy are kinda playing interference on everyone, even each other, for their respective boys, so they're a little too preoccupied to find out.

cue kismet (who are in the know, at least w/ Branch) showing up. they're careful not to reveal anything out of respect for Branch, but they're also protective and make some pointed comments.

some people get up in their feelings, and it ends up with the brothers in a room together arguing until-

Branch coughs up four perfect flowers in front of them

he watches them fall in slow motion, their gentle descent like a guillotine to him, and he's seconds from panicking until-

"YOU HAVE IT TOO?"

anyway cue spiderman meme as they all reveal their hanahaki and then have an emotional convo

I had a tattoo client ask if I ever used AI to design tattoos for me. Man I spent the better part of a decade doing shitty bit work as a graphic designer and now that I have the space to do whatever I want, I'm gonna let the computer generate random garbage for me? What next should I have a computer that eats my dinner and fucks my wife?

fun fact a long running fic with 5 main characters and 5 secondary characters who all need character arcs that still leave room for further growth is a really had balance to strike.

anyway i am now writing a fic with like more than 15 characters all stuck in a room together and im going to eat my laptop

branch asking the bros to help him keep an eye on Creek

“Wait.” Branch sighs, and they perk up like a bunch of puppies. “It’d be helpful if you tried to keep an eye on him.” 

“Yes!” JD fist pumps, and points at Branch with a grin. “You got it Bossy B, we’ll be on that guy like green on grass. Wait, that’s cliche. We’ll be on him like water on a creek? No, that’s terrible-” 

“Please don’t actually fight him.” Branch stresses. “He’s probably fine being watched by Gristle, and I really don’t want to make things any more difficult than they already are.” 

Floyd glances at John Dory, who’s still quietly pitching metaphors for their spy skills. “...We’ll do the best we can.” 

“We got it covered, man.” Clay says. “I won’t let this guy out of my sight. ‘Cus y’know where there’s a creek, you can always find clay.” 

There’s a beat of silence. 

Floyd and Bruce facepalm in sync. 

John Dory turns on Clay. “That’s unfairly good.” 

Branch covers his face with a groan. 

“No, John, it was terrible.” Floyd says. 

“Wait wait, y’know what else is in a creek?” JD grins. “John Dory-ies." 

Clay makes a sound like he’s been shot, and Bruce barks out a surprised laugh. Floyd wheezes so hard he doubles over. Branch’s face scrunches up, and he doesn't know if he should laugh or gag. 

John Dory blinks at them. “What? Like the fish! What’s so funny?” 

Floyd, breathless from giggling, clutches John Dory’s arm to haul himself upright. “Johnny, do me a favor and replace ‘creek’ with ‘yo mama’, and run through that joke again.” 

“But then it doesn't- oh. Oh.” John Dory goes an interesting shade of teal, and little waves of purple go up his hair. 

“I didn’t mean- I wouldn’t- not with him.” He sputters. 

Floyd hunches forward under the weight of his laughter, barely holding himself up with JD’s arm. 

John Dory scowls at him. “I can drop you.” 

Between gasps of laughter, Floyd manages to say, “But you won’t.” 

He sounds so sure, even as they continue to bicker and mock each other, that some sort of feeling makes itself known in Branch’s chest. It feels almost like a pressure, but it’s not bad.

although i do have probably 10k+ words of outlining and brainstorming, all sorts of AU planning bc that's the type of unhinged writer i've always been, so if people are interested in that i could maybe try to clean up some of those outlines and post them in the meantime
