Now that we know a little more about what the Demon Kings actually are I’ve been thinking of what that means for Rin.

Mephisto said that Rin could be a demon king, and he’s referred to Rin as his little brother. We’ve only seen Mephisto refer to Amaimon and Lucifer as his brothers, and it seems like only the other Kings, fellow “concepts” refer to each other as siblings and Satan as “father.” They don’t use the terms the same way humans do, it’s less about the circumstances of birth and more about what they are.

So that could mean that somehow Rin is a concept too, a demon of the same type.

When Shiro first explained Gehenna and Assiah as “mirrors” it immediately caught my attention because of Rin and Yukio being twins because that could be interpreted as them being “mirrors.”

But we haven’t seen Mephisto, or Lucifer, refer to Yukio as a brother. So at least for now that would imply that he isn’t a demon the same way Rin is.

And now we know that Satan is “Gehenna itself,” so that can’t be Rin’s concept.

Maybe Rin is the concept of Assiah? With his powers and such he is very much a “mirror” of Satan in that he’s similar.

Which would bring up other questions. Mephisto mentioned that Demon Kings can’t actually “die.” They can lose access to Assiah by losing their bodies, and be in states like Azazel. But they will still exist in some state. So does the same hold true for Rin? Is Rin now basically immortal? He came into existence in a wildly different way than any of the others, so how does this make him different or similar to the Kings?

What is he, exactly?
