I’ve been reminded to post about the theory I had going into the Robot Husband Poll…

(aka Nova is going to wax poetic about Ratchet, a character she doesn’t even care about that much.)

*clears throat* Now, to begin…

I admit that one of the main reasons I resurrected the robot husband poll was to find out just how popular Ratchet was and perhaps prove my theory: That Ratchet is the most beloved character for TF Tumblr.

Yes, go ahead and laugh. It may sound like a silly reason, but my curiosity would not be satisfied until I at least tried to find out. I thought, “What better way to gather the proof/data I desire than to run a fandom-wide poll event and make fans battle over their favorites until Soundwave and Ratchet stand on top?” Yes, I’m aware this may sound like I’m reveling in a blood sport, but bear with me here.

See, during my time here, I began to notice how large Ratchet’s fan base was. This intrigued me because, personally, I found him nothing but frustrating, albeit funny on occasion. Don’t get me wrong—I’ve always understood on an intellectual level why Ratchet was so popular—just not on a personal one.

However, thanks to the husband poll, I believe I now have a better understanding of the ‘why’ behind Ratchet’s popularity for TF Tumblr. It was great to see all of the Ratchet stans go on and on about what they loved about their beloved grumpy medic. I’m too lazy to write an extensive analysis of the replies, but I think it can be summed up like this:

Ratchet feels exactly how home should.

He’s tired, but he never stops caring. He’s grumpy, but he has a hidden lightheartedness to him that shows itself in funny ways. He’s an anchor in the most turbulent seas of war (fictional or otherwise). He provides a sense of comfort and stability to so many fans whose lives are in disarray right now and may always be.

I find it beautiful. *stares into the distance*

As for whether or not my initial theory was proved correct, I like to think it was.

“But Nova…Soundwave won!”

Yes, he absolutely did. And it was well-deserved.

However, as poll master, I had a front-row seat to the remarkable show of support coming from Ratchet’s army of fans. I witnessed a continuous stream of proverbial love letters that said so much more than what was written.

See, I’ve noticed how, for the most part, Soundwave is put on a pedestal by the fandom. (There are exceptions, but I’m generalizing here.)

Meanwhile, Ratchet is treasured. Fully, affectionately, undoubtedly treasured.

There’s a big difference, and that’s why I wholeheartedly believe that my initial theory has been proven correct.

but also, good for him, I love him, I hope he continues to make it, and I think op would be supportively glad he’s being appreciated too

haha that is a worthy note to add and should I ever have a reason to make something similar again, I will attempt to do basic vibration animation, because I also care deeply about fictional robot medic to a probably abnormal degree and that is a good suggestion for representing it!

Soundwave is so easy and tempting to make memes or otherwise for because, well, it’s Soundwave, fellow dances in some versions and uses a smiley emoji in tfp. Absolutely valid.

And judging by the amount of comments agreeing with this and/or mentioning being too tired in the actual polls, I would definitely say that’s a good point HFKSJHDF

well I did not intend for this to become a full colored piece but here we are ahfkjhsdf a new aviators song really made the art inspiration go brrrrr 

I just think they would be a dramatic villain couple, tango in the throne room type (you know, when they are not causing problems for literally everyone else)

OH also I looked at concept art for optimus’ cybertronian frame, and his colors were inspired by @zephyrus-moonlight‘s sg orion's colors, but ratchet’s is my own
