This piece called “Mavka” is inspired by famous Slavic folklore. Although “mavka” in Polish means “mother” (as far as I know), in this case it means “dead.” The story is of a beautiful dead nude woman (or women in this case), that wanders the forest, perhaps a wandering spirit of a woman who was murdered and/or drowned. She seduces men and lures them to her waterway, where she then uses her beautiful long hair to tangle him and pull him down into the water. She will also tickle him to make him choke, quickening his demise. Her hair isn’t only an indication of her beauty, but it also hides her back, which is skinless, exposing her spine and ribcage.
