Today is 'Raksha bandhan' festival in India. The friendship band kind of thing is called 'rakhi'.The rakhis can be brought from stores or be simply made at home. The band symbolizes the love and trust between a brother and sister.It isn't only between siblings, cousins or family member, it is also between friends who considered themselves like brother and sister. 'Raksha' means 'protection' and 'bandhan' means 'bond'. What actually happens is that the sister ties the rakhi around their brother's wrist and in turn the brother has to give some gifts to his sister. It can be anything like chocolates, sweets, clothes, jewellary etc. The rakhi represents a sister's prayers for her brother's well-being and a promise where a brother fullfil his duties towards his sister and protects her from any dangers. So in a nutshell, 'Raksha Bandhan' is the festival where we celebrates the pure bond between a brother and sister through 'rakhi'.
