1829, Frederick Myrick, Scrimshawed whale tooth depicting the whaleship Susan
Below the ship, not visible in the images is an inscription reading: "Death to the living long life to the killers / Success to sailors wives & greasy luck to whalers."
going thru my recent notes I found a terf blog in there (thank you shinagami eyes) so even tho this has nothing to do with the blog theme I just wanted to quickly say that this blog is and always has been a safe space for trans people no matter what.
terfs and transphobes do not even bother interacting with this post you will be blocked immediately.
✨ Please reblog the polls to make them reach out to as many people as possible, but KEEP IT SPOILER-FREE to make people listen to the music with an open mind 💖 Artists and titles will be revealed after the poll's conclusion, check the original post for an update! ✨
Will there be a big celebration post congratulating the winner and commending the ones who fell?
probably not anything too grand - the original plan was just a simple congratulation like in the past, and maybe even a little winner banner like for the wreck of the edmund fitzgerald!
unfortunately i've been so tied down with class work for the past month past week so i just haven't gotten around to it
Just wanted to check in: you’ve said your a long time Odysseus hater, how are you coping with him taking the saddest, soggiest, boatiest man crown?
hi!! i've been so swamped with homework the past week that i kinda forgot about the whole thing but i'll make sure to send out a thingy about him winning soon!!
while yeah, i'm a bit disappointed bc i think it would've been cool to see someone more "niche" (in comparison to a work as widely known as the odyssey) win the tournament, this is basically the classics website so i was resigned to my fate early on
at the end of the day, it was always going to be a popularity contest, and it also comes down to the way that i put the brackets together and the audiences they reached
while i'm personally not a fan of odysseus (at all) i do have to admit that it's pretty cool that a character from a story that's nearly 3,000 years old can win a popularity contest!!
