but seriously why do people feel the need to avoid the word ableism?
an abled person using disabled bathrooms/parking spaces/elevators isnt just a “shitty thing to do” my guy its ableist as fuck.
an abled person openly hating a disabled person simply because they are disabled, believing they shouldnt have certain rights or certain necessities because they are disabled, isnt just shitty IT IS ABLEISM.
someone believing a disabled person should have to go into debt to pay for medical bills and that they shouldnt be able to get accomodations or help to survive, it isnt just a shitty thing to think, its ABLEISM.
just say the fucking word people it isnt hard, dont talk about discrimination against disabled people as if its just annoying or shitty or mean, ITS DISCRIMINATION, ITS ABLEISM, SO CALL IT ABLEISM.
im so tired of people openly trying to avoid the word.

discussion-
what do you guys think of people wanting/letting abled bodied people play disabled characters in shows/movies/etc
i think its honestly gross and disrespectful, almost always because whatever illness some abled bodied brenda is pretending to have, they almost always do it poorly because no matter how well you practice pretending to be sick, itll never be as real or as well acted as a disabled actor, because that disabled actor WOULDNT BE ACTING IT.
so if an abled bodied actor pretends to have said illness, and does it even slightly wrong, then it isnt well acted and comes off far more disrespectful than probably intended.
i also feel this as a disabled actress, i know i WOULD NEVER be someones first choice to pick for an abled bodied character, and it makes me annoyed that due to my illness, theres a big chance no matter where i go, an abled bodied character would get any disabled role over me, it happens all the time, ableism aside, its just in poor fucking taste. this isnt an attack on them as actors, this isnt an attack at all, im just tired of how wrong and unfair it is.
and honestly, i get that actors act, i get that an actor can act disabled but, that is not representation, thats the exact opposite, when people choose abled actors over disabled ones for disabled roles, they are, whether intended or not, implying that theyre fine w disabled characters as long as theyre not actually disabled, its wrong and disrespectful.
i just wanna know other opinions on this,
also, i dont usually put something like this in my post, but after a lot of discussions posts and alot of whiny abled people in the notes being ableist, i feel like i have to.
its okay for abled peeps to like/reblog this post but this is a discussion for disabled people about disabled issues and id appreciate it if abled people who do reblog this dont give their opinion on it, as it is not needed nor wanted.

Don’t Take Up Spaces that Aren’t Meant for You
I go to use the elevator in a high rise building only to find a sign that says “Please ask security for access to this elevator”. A week ago, that sign wasn’t there. When I ask the security guard why the sudden change in policy, they said that people from other floors in the building had been abusing their access to the elevator and that they needed to lock it down.
Let me make this perfectly clear: I could no longer independently access the only elevator available to take me to this part of the building because other people decided to use / abuse a space that was not meant for them instead of taking the stairs right next to the fucking elevator.
Here’s another example: In order to have access to an accessible room on a cruise ship, I have to submit a form stating that I do in fact have a physical disability that prevents me from using a normal state room on the ship. I have to do this because able-bodied people have, in the past, been dishonest about the level of accessibility they require in order to have access to a larger stateroom without having to pay a premium.
How about this one: I go into the restroom of a massive convention center. Every single stall in this restroom is empty except for the one handicapped stall in the back, which is being occupied by someone who does not need to use a handicapped stall. I now have to wait for that one person to exit the stall before I can use the restroom. Remember: This bathroom has 7+ other stalls that are built specifically to work for them, but they chose to use the one space that is available to people like me.
Dear able-bodied people: Handicapped bathroom stalls, seating areas, staterooms, and elevators are not meant for you and you should not use them.
I do not care how big of a hurry you were in and how that elevator got you to where you needed to go faster. Because of you, I have to go find someone every time I need to use this elevator and if I can’t find them I GET NOTHING.
To you, that cruise ship can house 2000+ people and you have an opportunity to get a massive stateroom at no extra cost if you’re wiling to fib a little. To me, that cruise ship has a capacity of around 12 (the number of accessible rooms on the ship) and if they’re all full, I GET NOTHING.
To you, that movie theater has four really great seats right in the middle that just happen to have a handicapped accessible sign on them. To me, that theater has four seats and if they’re all full, I GET NOTHING.
And let me address the bathroom thing in particular. I don’t give a flying fuck if the handicapped stall was the only one available. You should pretend like it doesn’t fucking exist and wait in line like everyone else. *
Don’t take up spaces that were not meant for you. Because everything but those few precious spaces were not meant for us.
* Unless it’s literally the only stall in the bathroom or you’re about to absolutely shit yourself. Then it’s fine.

I know a lot of people have this idea that they should be pushing themselves past their limits to achieve something. My illnesses and disability have taught me that pushing myself past my limits can only harm me. Yet, everyone expects me to do so. Here is your reminder that you do not have to push yourself past your limits. Those limits are there for a reason. Just take your time and do things at your own pace.

“You walk at home? Do you even need your wheelchair?”
Yes, because walking in my own house is different than walking class to class at school. I don’t carry a heavy backpack at home. I’m not on a tight schedule at home. I can sit on the ground at home. I can ask my parents or siblings to help me at home. I can crawl on my hands and knees at home. I can lie in the middle of the hallway at home. I can sit on counters and tables at home. I can bear a lot of pain at home. I can show that pain at home. I can collapse in the middle of crawling up the staircase at home.
Don’t tell me or anyone else where or when they need to use their mobility device

Is there a discord for the chronic illness community, especially in light of the decisions Tumblehell is making?
If not, can we make one? I’d be willing to mod.

staff You are recommending that I follow a nazi blog I blocked last night. Your site promotes anti-semitism to Jews. Your site shoves Nazi Swastikas in the faces of Jews. It’s bad enough that the Nazi blogs seem to be sprouting up like weeds on a site that claims to have an anti-hate policy, but to actively promote them to people who have taken the steps of blocking these blogs is beyond the pale. Clean this place up. It’s turning into Stormfront. I encourage everyone who sees this post, Jewish or otherwise, to reblog it. Tumblr has been ignoring the growth of Nazism on this site for too long. It needs to end.
