Shadows of Saintsfour. The first season was fantastic!

Your favourite book so far:

Theodora has to be my favorite completed book. The first season is immaculate! As for ongoing books, Astrea's Broken Heart, Heaven's Secret: Requiem, and Soulless are great. Really looking forward to the next update.

LI you didn't expect to like but did:

Saraswati. Wasn't originally interested in her, especially because she was definitely gonna get sidelined. But that scene where she's covered in blood, that smile? I'm looking disrespectfully. 👀

LI you would like to see more of:

Felonia. She seems to not only be the only woman we can romance but also her position in the group is unique compared to the guys on the team. Plus, in our first special scene with her she asks to be allies with us against the Astrea's guys and I want to know what that was about! I want to know more and see her more!!!

Book/LI that I think has wasted potential:

Sins of London. The first season was phenomenal and then it just went downhill. I think there was way too much going on and the stakes got too high. The simple story of S1 with Irene's personal revenge and the discovery of the supernatural was compelling. But once it became the story about being the Queen's agent and the world ending, it fell apart.

I also think Song of the Crimson Nile just kinda fell off. I stopped paying attention near the end of season 1.

This ABH update spoilers

I've seen the spoilers and it looks like team David won again.

I am not even on Elliot's route, but man, his scene in this update was just incredibly written, compelling and emotionally impactful. At this point in the book Vyxaria and Ellliot are both well developed characters whose motivations and personalities we as the readers clearly understand. We know them well enough to understand that, given the circumstances, there is no other this could've went down, and that's what makes the tragedy of the situation hit like a gut punch. Start to finish, it feels raw, it feels real.

So much about this scene builds up on the context and development these characters have had in the past 1,5 books. Vyxaria who only ever saw sex as a means to survive doing it with Elliot not out of necessity, but because for the first time in her life, she wants to be close like that with another person. Elliot offering to protect her and take care of her, because we've seen time and again this is the kind of person he is, this is how he shows love. And Vyxaria immediately shutting him down.

The irony of it all. Elliot's affection, despite being deep and mutual, is toxic for Vyxaria, and him asking her to 'give up her lifestyle' reminds her exactly of why they can't be together. What is an expression of love to Elliot would be Vyxaria's death. Because she is a demon. She can't 'give up' her current lifestyle. It would literally kill her.

And so, Vyxaria asks Elliot to pay. Like, what a gut punch — for both Elliot and us as the readers. Reestablishing the status quo: she is a demon. Sex is not an act of affection for her, it's her lifeline. And she needs to remind herself of that. She needs to tell to both herself and Elliot that what just happened between them was not special, and she does it possibly in the most painful way possible, but also in the most Vyxaria way possible.

When you take out the supernatural out of it, this is such a mundane tragedy. Two people caring for each other deeply, but not being able to be together, because they are just fundamentally incompatible in some way. But the mundanity doesn't make it any less tragic. It just makes it real.

severely unwell over the fact that dmitry was ready to drown to save lane's life, survived that, threw himself in front of an infected horde to save lane's life, survived that, almost succumbed to a fucking bite covering lane's back, survived that, and is probably still gonna go on to throw himself into the jaws of death for her every 2 seconds. let's pls digest that for a moment

He wasn’t, she was, at least in the context of this scene. (ABH, the scene where Audrey and Cassiel chat at the bar after the club scene and he practically scolds her for her empathy toward the dead girls sister).

Funny how it’s a recurring theme in several books that celestial / supernatural beings lack real empathy for humans (while acting superior) and in some cases amongst each other. In Soulless, Vyxaria is regarded as strange (or dare I say broken?) for her feelings. Don’t get me started on the angels (Dino and most times Sammy being the exceptions) in HS1 & HS2. It feels like there’s a metaphor in there somewhere. 🤔
