View stats Zen Pet Care Services Pet Care Professional Battling Rampant Obesity Obesity is an enormous problem among pets not only in America, but practically everywhere. Before I explain why, understand many owners don’t even realize their pet is obese! People sometimes even think morbidly obese animals are boise ! I promise you, their pet isn’t sharing the sentiment! Dogs don’t quite understand the concept of obesity, not the way humans do. Still maintaining the instinctual views of wild animals who had to work very hard for their meals, a dog will often eat what it’s given. Since an overwhelming amount of pet owners can’t provide a means of proper exercise, this becomes a problem, especially among older dogs. Arthritic issues become especially painful for the overweight elderly dog. Just like humans, diabetes has also become a problem. Unfortunately, our dogs can’t tell us they are feeling dizzy or nauseous. Anyone that has or knows a diabetic understands how deadly it can be if left untreated. Between 20-40% of all dogs seen by veterinarians in the United States are considered overweight. That is an enormous amount, especially considering many owners rarely visit the veterinarian at all. In fact, and estimate of around Half of all dogs and cats in general are considered obese! That is a number ranging in the hundreds of thousands! Why is Obesity Such a Big Problem? Long story short, some of the very biggest dog food manufacturers in America use cheap and simple to produce vegetable ‘fillers’ as the main ingredients in their foods; they can manufacture much more at lower cost this way. Unfortunately, dogs didn’t evolve to live well off of non-meat sources of protein; they must eat more to just sustain themselves. Though humans can live a vegan lifestyle, dogs would be in a sorry state. There is a difference between the amino acids that compose the proteins found in animal meat vs. fruits/vegetables. Help is Within Your Grasp Why not let the friendly folks at Zen Pet Care help you out? Not only will we research your individual breed’s unique energy requirements, we’ll take the time to get to know your pooch on a personal level. Whether it be 3 individual sessions at the park per week or daily hikes, we’ll do what it takes to support your pet’s healthy lifestyle! Don’t worry; we monitor our progress with a GPS tracker! Lack of Exercise Woes Not only is physical health a potential problem, but excess energy can lead to destructive activities. After all, your dog needs to expel that energy somehow; no different than a human child! Dogs are active by nature. Consider this: their ancestors, Grey wolves, would go through the intensely demanding physical work and massive energy expenditure of tracking, chasing, and taking down prey animals often bigger than they are. Not only this, but they needed to fuel the brainpower required to coordinate their intricate pack hunting activities with each other. They even had to hide, bury, or defend their meals from other animals once they actually managed to do all of the above. Humans have eliminated the need for any of this by simply providing food (unfortunately, considering the statistics above, it is often not the right kind of food to satisfy their needs). Though most would if they had the opportunity, dogs are discouraged from chasing other animals. So- how in the world do they get rid of the pent up energy they were born with? Dogs in condos or apartments are especially at risk for increased levels of obesity because they don’t have a backyard to run or play in! We Understand You’re Busy The avg. pet owner today works a nine hour a day job in order to sustain themselves and their families; few people can actually afford the time to walk their dogs 2-3 times a day, let alone once. On top of that, who wants to walk in the 20 degree weather? Depending on the breed (Huskies were bred to tolerate intense lows down to -30 degrees, where as many toy breeds should avoid low temperatures, for the extreme ends) your dog might be absolutely fine outside in the cold for a limited amount of time, but you probably wont. Many pet owners have children to look after as well, and of course they probably take priority. Because, well, children tend to get themselves into dangerous situations if not supervised. Zen Pet Care is Here for You! We understand that you are busy, and are more than happy to visit your pups’ requirements for you! Our mission is to ensure that each dog gets the right amount of exercise and attention to suit their individual needs, and we won’t rest until the task is completed. We want to provide the precise exercise coaching your pup needs to form a ‘zen’ state of mind! Don’t Forget Cats! We’re just as knowledgeable with proper feline nutritional health and fitness requirements. Do to their nature, your cat probably won’t be as willing to venture out for a walk, but no worries! We can provide the toys and resources to keep your furry kitty having a blast all day long! Like dogs, cats no longer have to expend intense amounts of energy stalking their prey; we provide their meals for them. Not only can Zen Pet Care provide information on what is ideal for your little kitten and what isn’t, we can offer ‘diet’ scheduling and dietary ‘veterinarian recommended’ treatments! Why not consider contacting Zen Pet Care for your dog or cat today? They make the healthy difference!
