‘ Marian says you are a little sneak-thief. ’ Casually, as if they have known each other the boy’s whole life, Robin nudges Claudel in the back of the head. With a grin: ‘ I made the mistake of stealing from her too. She must think we will be fast friends, aye? ’

the witcher (2019) series one sentences, episodes 5&6. some minor edits for ease of use; feel free to change pronouns, etc.
This isn’t who you are.
Run. I said run!
You don’t know what you’re doing.
Isn’t it lovely, the life we’ve chosen?
I see a lot of myself in you.
There is no “us”. There’s only me.
Love. That’s nice, but not on the cards for me.
Are you familiar with who I am?
Well, won’t you end this rather melodramatic suspense and tell me?
The sword of destiny has two edges.
I fear I shall die brokenhearted.
I can’t sleep.
You know, somebody once said to me that destiny is just the embodiment of the soul’s desire to grow.
I mean, are you trying to hurt my feelings?
I just want some damn peace!
What aren’t you saying? Tell me.
They will come after you.
I am here to offer you a chance for redemption.
How did we get this way?
I gave you all I could give.
Everyone else is boring.
Nobody smart plays fair.
Happy childhoods make for dull company.
Tell me, are there women who find this coarseness charming?
I’m not easily satisfied.
You have a strong will but you can’t contend with me.
You’re in love with her?
Well, I was having a rather lovely dream which then turned into a nightmare.
Do not tell me that this is finally the moment you’ve decided to actually care about someone other than yourself?
Can’t you see what this is doing to you?
What matters is I’ve found my way back to you.
You’re my family too now, remember?
Your destiny is in your own hands and no one else’s.
Thank you. For everything.
This is a first for me, and that’s saying something.
Don’t trouble yourself on my account.
You feel it just the same as me, that hole inside you.
Come with me. I’ll show you what you’re missing.
Wait, what? No one mentioned anything about impending death!
You worry if you blink, you’ll never see her again.
You’re in love with her.
She’s plenty able of murdering you herself.
I hate to break it to you, but that ship has sailed, wrecked and sunk to the bottom of the ocean.
Every time I’m near you, I say more in five minutes than I’ve said in weeks.
Every time I’m near you, I say more in five minutes than I’ve said in weeks. And I always regret it.
You did your best. There’s nothing else you could have done.
Look, why don’t we leave tomorrow?
Life is too short. Do what pleases you while you can.
Is this not what you came for?
It’s hard to regret something you didn’t choose.
Do I bore you?
Before we met, the days were calm and the nights were restless.
If I stay with you any longer, I’ll be dead too.
I didn’t need your help!
You flit about like a tornado, wreaking havoc, and for what?
Why is it whenever I find myself in a pile of shit these days, it’s you shovelling it?
We cannot mistake the stars reflecting in a pond for those in the night sky.
Do not despair. We will find her.

@choralsung asked: You’re delirious but you’re not dead. /from john
Tumblr media
‘ Are you certain of that? ’ Delirious he may be, but Robin is still keenly aware of the way his head is ringing and how his leg throbs so painfully. He curls his fingers into John’s tunic and tries to drag himself up properly, only for the whole world to tilt sideways the moment he sits up and his back to put up a fight regardless. He flops back onto the grass, head spinning, and closes his eyes to save himself the disorientation. Still, he manages something of a grin -- though, it edges towards a grimace: ‘ Father, I am perfectly well -- ’

Nothing happens. Julia herself doesn’t even stand from her seat at first, though she is startled momentarily, both brows raised. She’s been expecting some kind of test and wasn’t sure when or how it would come, but she knew that it would. Whatever Robin is expecting, she doesn’t need guards pouring out of the woodwork to protect her.
Tumblr media
“If you really wanna hurt me, it’ll take more than a carving knife.” Julia speaks calmly, though she’d be within her rights to shout. She offers a half-smile as she makes a point of snuffing out a candle with her bare hand, as though she can’t feel the flame at all, then reveals the unmarked palm after. “Stone skin. Very useful defensive spell.” She arcs a brow. “I’m willing to show a little faith, not stupidity.”
Julia takes another sip of wine, then shrugs. “If you don’t want to work with me, you can go. You’ll find your things hidden in a hollow tree to the East, just outside the grounds.” Letting Robin leave before she’s sure of him might be the only way to prove she’s serious. “Feel free to take as much food as you can carry.”
Rare is it for Robin to be met with something he does not understand. It isn’t the magic, he can wrap his head around the magic. She is, after all, a Child of Earth, and a Magician, and she wouldn’t sit here with him now if she couldn’t protect herself. That makes sense. It’s the rest of her that confounds him.
Tumblr media
‘ You’ll have none of your guards follow me, ’ he says, mistrustful still. She will just let him leave? She will return to him his things and allow him to walk out of the Castle, out of her reach, and to continue thieving and being so troublesome? He hardly believes it.
Robin barely takes his eyes from her as he moves, collecting up the food she has offered to him and packing it away swiftly. Only when he’s finished does he pause, rather than walking straight out of the door. After a few moments of silence, finally: ‘ If I decide to speak with you again, I won’t be arrested to do it. ’

“Of course not.” Julia snorts—a sound that always seems to scandalize her advisers, but she can’t help it. (Though this is already going better than she’d hoped, all things considered.) “You’d have to be an idiot to just believe me, and you’re too good at evading arrest to be an idiot.” She sips wine from her cup, letting the honeyed brew sit on her tongue for a moment before swallowing, then gives a small shake of her head.
Tumblr media
“That kind of trust is earned, not given. And it goes both ways. You’ll notice I dismissed the guards to keep this conversation private.” Julia can defend herself just fine, but why take the chance if not to show a little faith? “You don’t owe me anything, obviously, but this is about the people of Fillory. As for me—” Julia sighs, leaning back in her chair with her cup in hand. “…all my friends died freeing Fillory from the Beast. Is it so hard to believe I just want to go home?” She’s not convinced returning to Earth would be any better, but anything’s preferable to staying in Fillory and ruling it alone, without any of the people she loved.
Tumblr media
‘ You’re High Queen of Fillory. Why would you want to go home? ’
There is no changing his mind from one meeting alone. Robin is not such a fool as to accept the word of a monarch at face value, to assume that she tells him the truth even when he knows how people from her world love their games and care little for their people. Perhaps she does miss her friends. Dearly, even. But what ruler is lonely when they are surrounded by their courtiers?
Rather suddenly and with no warning, Robin rises to his feet. Call it a test -- and a foolish one, with the way he reaches for the knife by his plate. She says that she dismissed her guards. True enough, she sent some of them away. But here he is, quick to act and threatening to any of her standing by nature, eyes locked firmly upon her own. And now is the time to see if those guards come running.

She might argue, this stranger, that she has found him herself -- to which he would say she is no forester, and must herself have some unnatural luck to have stumbled upon him at such a time. For years now, he has evaded those who would take his hand or his head or any such thing they deem a worthy price for a man who only wishes to survive. ‘ I am not here to steal, and I only wish to keep my life.      It isn’t the dog that Robin minds so much -- just its owner, when she shows herself, and all the finery she wears. A Cousland, then, he thinks. One of his Friends had told him that they would be visiting, something about the hunting being better than in Highever. And she has the look about her of someone he served some years ago, back before Franderel cast him out.
Tumblr media
‘ He’s no bother, ’ he says simply, rising from where he was knelt to greet the hound. He should have guessed: this is no common mutt. ‘ You’re a long way from the Hall, Lady... Cousland? ’

‘ Well, yeah, I mean -- you’re alright, aren’t you? ’ Rob runs a hand back through his hair and immediately follows that up with a shrug. Non-committal. Sure. Yeah. He clears his throat, then, and gestures back over his shoulder. ‘ You’re not, like, vegan or anything, right? We’ve not got none of that, is all. ’

astrificare. clara.
‘ Clara! ’ Robin is all wide, gleeful smiles, arms outstretched in welcome. He and the Merry Men have had a successful day of it and their spirits are all appropriately lifted. Clara has, as she always seems to do, arrived completely at random and when nobody was expecting her, but she is a friendly face and he will not be turning her away tonight. Stepping around the fire, he approaches to give her a proper welcome. ‘ Where is your Doctor? Never mind, come, drink, we are celebrating! ’
❝ oh, robin, it is good to see you! ❞ and so it is. the doctor’s still on the TARDIS — dealing with a problem in the something-or-other that brought them back here when they were meant to be a century later — but clara’s more than content to seek out an old friend by herself. ( robin hood is her friend; she can barely believe it to be true. ) and it is so…warm, here. that’s how it feels, fire or no.  ❝ i won’t say no. what’re you celebrating? ❞
‘ We are celebrating a job well done! ’ he grins. Clara is promptly pulled into a firm embrace, which she is almost immediately released from so that he can hand her a cup. Across the fire, Will calls something out about what a haul they managed to get. The most of it, of course, is long gone, dispersed amongst the people who need it a far sight more than anyone in this camp. Still, it was a glorious sight, and Robin is sure they will be telling stories of this for a long time. Fully aware that Clara is just as interesting, however: ‘ Tell me, friend, where have you come from now? ’

❝ then i suppose we are the same, you and i. ❞ is she not an outlaw? perhaps not in the same way, but there are those who want to find her, and who would kill her if they found her. morgana has spent years acting against the law because it is right; if that does not make them the same, then what will?  ❝ these people…they are not just outlaws. helping them is a statement, maybe even a target. if what they say about you is true, you should know this first. ❞
‘ A statement, you say? ’ Robin cannot help the grin that spreads across his face. He glances back over his shoulder, towards John (who shares his smile), and has to laugh as he returns to the stranger. ‘ If what they say about me is true -- and I promise you, it is -- ’ said, of course, with much pride, ‘ then you should know that will only encourage me. What do they call you, stranger? I should know the name of my allies. ’

heartsdefine. marian.
Marian laughs. She laughs and it is cold, and harsh, and wholly bereft of humor. It is the sound of sadness that has long since crystallized into a rage so deep it became an ocean to cross. She stops only to catch her breath and manages to stifle the madness before it can begin again. Too late, though, for any hope she might suppress the angry tears that have been threatening to fall, and Marian knows she will feel all the more foolish for it later, but now…
Now she’s feeling worse than insulted, and she would love to hate him for being capable of this. What right does Robin Hood have to judge her as he lives free and bold in the forest, beyond the Sheriff’s reach? What could an infamous outlaw know of a canny words or a subtle tongue? What does he know of what she has risked to scrape together what little influence she has? What she continues to risk?
Tumblr media
“You think yourself so righteous.” Marian is smiling now, halfway to hysterical and hardly ashamed. “But you are as petty and small in your understanding of the world as any other man, convinced your view is complete, so certain you have known every hardship that you dismiss what you have not. You think my days meaningless for lack of nagging my keepers? You believe you could do more, and better than I? Louder?” She laughs again, though it is now a brittle sound, short and breathless. “Perhaps you would not be so sure by the fourth or fifth lashing, fool.”
Robin finds he cannot argue against her accusation: he is, indeed, the greatest fool of them all, it seems. He steps back, finds himself looking away, if only for a moment, as if he suddenly cannot face the look she is giving him. A frown presses at his own brow, and his hands find his hips as he takes a steady breath.
His assumptions have not flattered him, and he thinks to become defensive. How was he to know? Marian, so aloof and unfamiliar, from a world that is just in kind. But even now, with tensed jaw and furrowed brow, he cannot find the words to spit back at her. If Robin is to ask the world of a woman, he would at least have the decency to let her hate him for it.
Tumblr media
‘ I did not know, ’ is all he says. Perhaps one day, he will give her the apology she deserves. Now, however, all that Robin has to offer is a lack of eye contact and a shame he will not speak of. He pinches at the hem of his tunic, rubbing the cloth between forefinger and thumb before he finally convinces himself to say more. ‘ Perhaps I have misjudged you. My words have been... ’ His frown deepens momentarily, and he seems to give up on his sentence. It always seems to be Marian who leaves him at a loss for words. Saying nothing she does not already know: ‘ He is a blight upon this land. ’
