I was having a MARVELOUS amount of productive timing for this update until my brain hit me with the “what if spin off Mario characters used Power Ups” question and I got side tracked for a moment there 👁️👄👁️. Then I got HIT with the Cookie Run bug and played for three days straight (I have made poor financial decisions).

Then you have all the stress going on in this STUPID ASS country keeping me from focusing on my creativity, and it’s only the first month of the year AHAHAHAHAHA fml.

Despite all this, I am trying my best to do my self proclaimed job as a story teller and PROCEED WITH THE DRAWING >:D.

After a year of not having any insurance, and constantly praying that I wouldn't have any health emergencies, I was grateful that I could use the ACA to get basic insurance that wouldn't cost me half my paycheck every month.

Well now I'm praying that I'll be able to have just 1 doctor's appointment before the ACA is repealed and I'm back to being insurance-less

Wonderful news! I have accidentally discovered a way to make sure the missionaries will never ask me to go on visits with them again. I went on a visit with them ONE time, and then they were texting me almost every single day asking me to go on another one even though I never signed up on the sheet saying I was willing to visit. And I'm too polite and awkward to tell them to leave me alone.

But anyways, the easiest way to make sure they lose your number is to disagree with them on an important point in front of investigators. The missionaries asked me how I felt about being baptized in the "one true church."

I've always had issues with that statement, because I personally believe through Christ you make it back home, so it doesn't have to actually be through our church. And so that's basically what I said when the missionaries asked me about the one true church.

They didn't ask me anymore questions during that discussion, they didn't thank me for coming at the end, and they haven't texted me in months. I wish I knew this hack sooner!

In the spirit of encouraging people to comment on fanfics while also making it easier to do so, I feel obliged to share a browser extension for ao3 that has quite literally revolutionized the comment game for me.

I present to you: the floating ao3 comment box!

From what I've seen, a big problem for many people is that once you reach the comments at the bottom of a fic, your memory of it miraculously disappears. Anything you wanted to say is stuck ten paragraphs ago, and you barely remember what you thought while reading. This fixes that!

I'll give a little explanation on the features and how it works, but if you want to skip all that, here's the link.

The extension is visible as a small blue box in the upper left corner.

(Side note: The green colouring is not from the extension, that's me.)

If you click on it, you open a comment box window at the bottom of your screen but not at the bottom of the fic. I opened my own fic for demonstrative purposes.

The website also gives explanations on how exactly it functions, but I'll summarize regardless.

insert selection -> if you highlight a sentence in the fic it will be added in italics to the comment box

add to comment box -> once you're done writing your comment, you click this button and the entire thing will automatically copied to the ao3 comment box

delete -> self explanatory

on mulitchapter fics, you will be given the option to either add the comment to just the current chapter or the entire fic

The best part? You can simply close the window the same way you opened it and your progress will automatically be saved. So you can open it, comment on a paragraph, and then close it and keep reading without having the box in your face.

Comments are what keep writers going, and as both a writer and a reader, I think it's such an easy way of showing support and enthusiasm.

Idk if anyone else remembers when the Neopets role-playing forum was fire, but I just remembered it today. And when I say it was fire, I'm not exaggerating. Different topics would be getting replies every couple of seconds. If you accidentally clicked off the board you were rping on, it would already be on the third page because so many other stories were actively being added to.

People would have multiple accounts just to adopt Neopets so they could update their page with different character templates. One pet page would be their roleplay character's synopsis, another would be their personality, another would be their appearance, etc etc.

I logged into my old account just to see if I could share a link, but unfortunately my pet pages seem to be back to default.

Anyways. The reason I'm mentioning this.

There were multiple infamous characters, but the one I remember VIVIDLY because I saw it in person was swing girl. Basically, this girl's backstory was that when she was a toddler, her and her sister were swinging. She started falling off her swing, and her parents ignored her, so she hit the ground and got brain damage. But all the brain damage did was give her bright blue eyes and made her never need to study in school because she remembered everything. There was even a picture of a child falling off a swing on her pet page. She also never needed to brush her hair or wear makeup because she always looked perfect.

Did anyone else back in the hey-day of Neopets role-playing see this person in the wild? Or maybe someone else with a hilariously weird character? I miss those days.

I was in a role-playing guild called The Final Element that was based on the idea of every generation being blessed with people who could control one element (earth, water, fire, air, light, dark) along with a "Final Element" who was capable of controlling the elements if they killed the person who could control said element. Those days were wild.

once i was presenting research at a conference where everyone who received money from a specific grant had to go to basically be like “and here’s what we’re doing with your money.”

and there was a team there presenting on astrophysics and I truly barely understood a thing they said. my team was there to talk about salamander eDNA, and the juxtaposition between Space Math and swabbing salamanders with cotton-tips just struck me as deeply funny.

Later some of the Space people came by and asked us all about the salamanders and one of them said, “I can’t imagine working with animals and water. It’s all so messy. I don’t know how you stay sane with those variables?”

And I was like, “dude I didn’t even know the math you talked about today even existed.”

And we were both just like 🤝 “love your work. huge fan. I’d rather die than do it though.”
