Happy Father’s Day!

Did you know that male foxes are very devoted fathers? They put in a lot of work raising their young, including hunting and finding food for the cubs, teaching them life skills and sometimes just having fun playing with them! If something happens to the vixen than the male will continue raising his cubs as a single dad.

Here’s some photos I took in 2020 of dad fox on babysitting duty. In the second photo he’s disciplining one of his cubs for being overly boisterous. You can almost imagine him saying “Calm down, Son!”

My pack lethals, in order of their adoption.

I finally finished my most recent - my conjoined twins, Solstice & Equinox! Though I feel like they're still missing a foreground decor, I can't find something I feel is fitting.

There was no orange halo, and while I requested the colors on two or three of them, the user hasn't been active in a while - but I think I made their eclipse look work with the black halo and inferno eyes!

I love them very much, tho Æther holds my heart the most.

I've wanted to immortalize the OG Enit and Aurelius, maybe Pietro, as sorta Remnants within the mortal realm and also just because I really love them lol

That Dream AI artwork app helpfully created some representations of Enit in her eldritch space wolf in the darkness beyond the stars form. I think she's gorgeous ❤️

ITS DENALI!!!

I love her she's a cutie! She has learned to use knives so WATCH OUT >:3

Her gentle aspect is Leetle Horns, and her Blessing from Enit is the Spine Spikes.

She loves exploring, collecting shinier, tying things on her legs/tail, fighting, and chilling with her pack.

Rowan's Shade Pack Traditions

NAMING

Pups are named when their eyes open. Newest generations choose names that have a root word in nature, although occasionally with an ending that harks back to the galactic origin of Enit: -xus, -us, -ani, -eo, -ix

THE FAREWELL

The Rowan’s Shade Pack doesn’t believe that death is the end of life, and that when a pack member dies their spirit travels beyond the stars to meet Enit where she dwells now with her consort, Pietro, and their ancestors in the Darkness Beyond the Stars, and that they can return to the pack with Enit’s help whenever they want. 

It is still a period of mourning, for the loss of a friend/family member, and the wolves take a day to mourn, howling at the end of the day when they give the body to the Rowan tree. 

This period involves a call and response by the Lead Wolf and the Pack:

Lead: 

    The body slows and dies,      As plants wither, as seasons change,     But the spirit lives on and runs     On the paths between the stars

Pack: 

    The body returns to the soil,     And nourishes the Great Rowan with itself     The spirit rushes to meet Enit and Pietro     In the Pack That Howls Beyond The Stars

THE EYES OF THE ELDER SPIRITS

Belief in Elder Spirits, Spirits that reside in a place beyond the mortal world, who can occasionally reach out to this plane, is strong and alive in the pack. The pack acknowledges that Elder Spirits have no concept of mortal morality, so they are judged on the actions they take in regards to mortal wolves.

The Eyes are a group of wolves that are chosen at the beginning of the Pack's year (Fall Equinox) to dedicate their time to contemplation and discussion of the Elder Spirits, Enit, and understanding of the greater cosmos outside their world. They lead rituals, they leave offerings for spirits and ancestors, they contact Enit and other Elder Spirits, and they are tasked with passing on the stories of their pack. They are conduits for the Spirits.

THE SUMMER SOLSTICE

A group of adult wolves travel to the desert, arriving at the place of the battle between The Rowan’s Shade Pack and The Pack of Golden light on the solstice. They eat nothing on the journey, in memory of the wolves that were forced to undergo that journey by Aurelius. At the location, during the day they stage a mock battle under the heat of the sun. As the sun sets, they howl to the sky, celebrating the defeat of the Golden Wolf and the rebirth of the Rowan’s Shade pack. They feast as they return to their home pack, and hunt along the way so that when they return the whole pack can feast and celebrate the rebirth of the pack.

Féarach, Spirit of Meadows

Féarach was made a spirit after he was killed defending his pack’s nursery from attackers, and was deemed a worthy fit for a spirit.

Not long after he was made a spirit, he stumbled across a small creature seemingly made of tree bark, weak and sick. He nursed her back to health, and after she wouldn’t leave his side, named her Crann. She accompanies him everywhere.

Féarach is in charge of meadows and grasslands, though mostly those bordering forests. As such, he encounters Foraoise quite a lot, leading to a bit of a blossoming romance between the two.

Introducing

Bagnowilki

(the name is just smushing two Polish words together: Bagno (swamp) and Wilki (wolves). Singular is Bagnowilk. Pronounced ba-gno-veelkee and ba-gno-veelk respectably)

The Bagnowilki are wolf-fish cryptid-creatures, whose packs live among the swamps. During the recent cataclysms, and the shaking up of their territories, one of these Bagnowilk packs, The Bowfin Pack, found their home being overrun by Lizard Men who sought to take it for themselves.

Bagnowilki aren't exactly push overs, but some of their pack was injured due to geysers and earthquakes, and the Lizard Men had brought alligators with them to boost their numbers.

The Bowfin Pack were run out of the swamp, to the north, keeping to the river through the desert and prairie until they reached the riparian woods and were stumbled upon by wolves from the Rowan's Shade Pack. But that's a story for another time...

Physiology:

Bagnowilki stand about 25 inches at the shoulder, though a few reach closer to 30 inches, but in general they are shorter at the shoulder than gray wolves. They have shorter, thicker limbs with webbed toes, functional dew claws on all four feet, short claws on the rear paws and hooked longer claws suitable for grasping and tearing on the front paws.

Their fur is thick and short everywhere, except for the neck area which is longer and thicker. Their ears are short and able to be lain flat against their skull when swimming. Their eyes have several clear eyelids so they don't need to closer their eyes underwater. Their tails are longer than a wolf's, and extremely flexible. They have several pairs of whiskers on their muzzles, extremely sharp teeth, and fins and scales on their bodies.

Behavior:

In general they behave a lot like wolves, in that they have a pack formation, work together, raise pups together, etc.

They excel at ambush hunting, hiding in murky water to leap out at unsuspecting prey.

They also, however, hunt by pretending to be injured or trapped in the water, struggling until their prey is close enough (either because of curiosity, the hope of an easy meal, or in the case of humans and some wolves, with the hopes of helping) they strike out. Their teeth are of various lengths, and their jaws are very strong. They are able to easily drag most animals into the water and keep them there until they drown.

The Bagnowilki, of course, do not worry about drowning. They can breathe underwater as well as abovewater.

Cervos deserves to be immortalized on this blog before his time is up (don't worry Denali will get a neat pic too but hers will be in color)

Cervos is a Not-a-Wolf who joined the Rowan's Shade Pack during the time before Denali became the leader. He is a spirit of mainly mischief and terror who tones it down A Lot among the pack because he thinks this wolves are Kind Of Neat

When out scouting he's an absolute agent of chaos but he always remembers what was on the grocery list so no one minds too much.
