it's so fucking frustrating to be in college and know everyone uses chatgpt and to be tempted by it constantly while also knowing intellectually that it doesn't work and it's a bad idea. like, i hang out in the library a lot, and i see people using chatgpt on assignments almost every day. and i know it isn't a good way to learn, because it's not really "artificial intelligence" so much as it is an auto text generator. and it gives you wrong information or badly worded sentences all the time. but every week i stare down assignments i don't want to do and i think man. if only i could type this prompt into a text generator and have it done in 10 minutes flat. and i know it wouldn't work. it wouldn't synthesize information from the text the way professors want, it wouldn't know how to answer questions, it just spits out vaguely related words for a couple paragraphs. but knowing my classmates get their work done in 10 minutes flat with it while i fight every ounce of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in my body is infuriating.

right after having a Social Anxiety moment I immediately got kicked while I was already down when a classmate started his presentation about "developmental psychopathy" I literally couldn't take it anymore I straight up messaged my professor and said "psychopathy isn't real. even modern psychologists don't consider it a useful label, to the point that it was removed from the dsm in 1986. it's heavily racialized and used to justify the prison industrial complex. until the 70s autism was considered a form of psychopathy. this presentation is personally offensive to me and I'm going to leave now" and god dammit I did just that

I tend to participate in my classes because I like talking and I am usually pretty good at saying things that are relevant and build on the conversation but as soon as a teacher politely corrects me on something I got wrong it literally throws me into a full-on panic attack

@casinocircus FR IT'S CRAZY. as a child I read books like alice in wonderland, the little prince, anne of green gables, a series of unfortunate events... and they made me feel super seen as a kid who often felt alienated by the condescending way teachers and relatives would speak to me, as if I wasn't a real person and I couldn't possibly know anything because of my age, or as if I was inherently annoying just for being a normal kid. and I know for a fact that a lot of these people felt the same way in elementary school and read the same kind of books, some of them even stand by these books as adults, but then they turn around and dehumanize children in the exact same way! it's so hypocritical. if you "hate kids" you are treating a diverse group of human beings as a monolith and that's something you need to unlearn.

don't even get me started on the fucking audacity you have to have to look at a post made by a black person about how white people often extend their dehumanizing behavior ("people are evil, I only like dogs" is a white rhetorical stance I have seen criticized for YEARS) to children, specifically children of color, and reply with "yeah I do like animals more than kids! fuck you!"

how is it that every. single. time. someone makes a post offering genuine criticism about how "hating children" as a universal rule is shitty and dehumanizing (and, in this case, also pointing out the race/class connotations of that mindset) someone like this shows up and immediately gets hyper-defensive. there needs to be a bidoof's law about this or something because I stg it seems utterly unavoidable. nobody gives a shit that you hate kids!! get help!!

even outside of reclamation discourse one of the major ways I see slur discourse obviously use the n word as a mechanism for framing Every Other Slur is by acting like saying a slur in a critical capacity or in a quote is the same thing as using the slur. because this is absolutely the case for the n word, if you are nonblack the n word should never come out of your mouth regardless of context. but not every slur is like that, and there are a lot of slurs that are more acceptable to say out loud in an educational or informational context, if that makes sense. this comes up a lot in lgbt slur discourse, with some people acting like a cishet person even saying the word "queer" in an educational context or a straight woman calling her lesbian friend a dyke with consent + upon request is inherently violent. the n word is inherently violent coming out of a nonblack person's mouth due to the nature of its history, while I would argue that most other slurs (I'm sure there are exceptions) are primarily violent based on the context in which they're used.

White people of all stripes and marginalizations are absolutely unequipped to handle slur reclamation discourse because they're just stealing the n word discourse and mangling it to fit with whatever slur applies to them (and even some that don't) because, at the heart of it all, marginalized white people view themselves as oppressed on the same level as (or worse than) Black people and have a chip on their shoulder about it
